I have been in the seamstress business for many many years and I’ve always used to know me machines. I wanted to add this as not only a backup machine but to have a second straight with a lot of possibilities. I already have the HD 3000 and I’m completely happy with it. I am very excited about the new one which is an HD 5000. It is detailed even more and the explanations that they have on the machine are exemplary. It makes it very convenient to use a certain stitch or maneuver that you don’t use all the time. Available immediately. Instead of looking it up in the book. Do you know me our excellent machines I have five of them, to our sergers, commonly called over lock. And three straight/embroidery machine. I wanted to get it before the terrors went into effect. The price was excellent.

I put off buying a modern sewing machine after investing a LOT into antiques. I have cast-iron machines with absolutely no plastic components that will (on theory) outlive myself and perhaps an extra generation or two. HOWEVER, those antiques can't go a zigzag stitch without some janky attachment, and don't even get me started on buttonholes! The day this arrived I threw together a tote bag to test it out and I was so excited with the results I ran to the craft store the following day to start another project. Having spent a few miles of thread with no signs of wear on the machine I'm expecting this to last me a good long while!

Overall the machine is SO strong. It powered through 4 layers of faux fur, 2 layers of minky, and 2 layers of neoprene like it was nothing. Definitely a step up from my previous singer that struggled to get through one layer of faux fur. My only complaint is the front cover on the left side of the machine came misaligned. I did reach out to the seller and they were very nice tell me I just had to unscrew the hinge and realign it but I tried that and it still doesn’t close correctly. It looks like the hinge is slightly bent making the cover not able to be closed at any angle I put the screws in. It’s no fault of the seller but rather Janome’s packaging and probable mishandling by their shipping providers. Right now I have it resolved by a piece of tape. It doesn’t affect the quality of the machine just annoying that with how much this machine costed it came with a noticeable flaw.

Worked well for 1 1/2 years. Now we are having A LOT of issues that sound like the motor locking up. The “tech support” is only the Janome website that tells me the closest dealer is in Colorado. I live in Indiana. That is over an 18 hour drive! This is a heavy duty machine and my 18 year old has made clothing for herself for 1 1/2 years. This is not enough use for a heavy duty machine to have the motor locking up.

All my other machines in the last 20 years have been mostly if not all plastic and they lose their stitch setting or the bobbin area gets off track and I lose everything I was working on and have to sit for hours trying to fix the machine or take out the messed up stitching. This is soo sturdy and a nice combo of metal and plastic parts and the plastic is in the not important areas! It may be a tad heavier the. The plastic machines but that is also a plus to me allowing g me to go faster knowing my stitches will not slip.

I use this sewing machine mostly for bags, gear, etc. I used to own a Brother but it would break needles and wouldn't lift the foot high enough for me to squeeze bulky materials through. This Janome is brilliant and does everything I need. 100% BIFL.
