  • Dependable, heavy duty, easy stitch change up.
Mechanical excellence - just what I was hoping for. This Janome has made sewing a pleasure again. It sews through three plus layers like a garmet district machine. I have other really good machines (one Singer and two Vikings) but they tend to be a bit finicky for me - not this Janome heavy duty (HD5000BE). ... show more

  • Very, very good quality sewing machines.
I have been in the seamstress business for many many years and I’ve always used to know me machines. I wanted to add this as not only a backup machine but to have a second straight with a lot of possibilities. I already have the HD 3000 and I’m completely happy with it. I am very excited about the new one which is an HD 5000. It is detailed even more and the explanations that they have on the machine are exemplary. It makes it very convenient to use a certain stitch or maneuver that you don’t use all the time. Available immediately. Instead of looking it up in the book. Do you know me our excellent machines I have five of them, to our sergers, commonly called over lock. And three straight/embroidery machine. I wanted to get it before the terrors went into effect. The price was excellent. ... show more

  • I've used it for months and expect make more years!
I put off buying a modern sewing machine after investing a LOT into antiques. I have cast-iron machines with absolutely no plastic components that will (on theory) outlive myself and perhaps an extra generation or two. HOWEVER, those antiques can't go a zigzag stitch without some janky attachment, and don't even get me started on buttonholes! The day this arrived I threw together a tote bag to test it out and I was so excited with the results I ran to the craft store the following day to start another project. Having spent a few miles of thread with no signs of wear on the machine I'm expecting this to last me a good long while! ... show more

  • Bobbin Problems Keep Me from Recommending It
I really wanted to love this machine. It has a solid, heavy feel, sews smoothly when it's working correctly, and has enough power for heavier fabrics like denim and canvas. Unfortunately, the biggest issue has been the bobbin. Out of nowhere, and with no apparent reason, the machine will suddenly start acting up. It can sew perfectly for a while, then the bobbin thread will begin bunching or tangling, even though nothing has changed. I've rethreaded the machine, reinserted the bobbin, changed the needle, cleaned the bobbin area, and checked the tension, yet the problem still returns unpredictably. The frustrating part is that it's inconsistent. There isn't one specific action or setting that causes it, which makes it difficult to troubleshoot. One minute it's producing beautiful stitches, and the next it's creating a bird's nest underneath the fabric. When the machine is sewing properly, I really enjoy using it. However, the random bobbin issues have taken away my confidence in the machine because I never know when they're going to happen. I expected better reliability from a machine in this price range. I'm hoping this is something Janome can address because the machine has a lot of potential, but the inconsistent bobbin performance has been disappointing. I would not recommend purchasing this machine. If you have the means, purchase a higher end model and if not, find another brand and model. ... show more

  • Good overall, nothing complicated
Strong machine, forms nice stitching, good pull on the feed dogs, lots of stitch options...just a couple of minor design anomalies in my opinion. The accessory tray on the machine bed is built too shallow and allows the small items to fall between it and the machine front. My seam ripper is always getting lost there. The accessory tray on top of the machine is very nice and everything fits well and the presser foot indentations fit the feet well. The needle threader doesn't work. Not unusual for these to break, but why put it on if it's useless right out of the box? That's not a deal breaker, overall it's a good machine, hopefully it will last me for many years. I do like the way it sews, it's pretty quiet and responsive. ... show more

  • Great for sewing gear
I use this sewing machine mostly for bags, gear, etc. I used to own a Brother but it would break needles and wouldn't lift the foot high enough for me to squeeze bulky materials through. This Janome is brilliant and does everything I need. 100% BIFL.

... show more
