  • Very nice sewing machine
I've had this machine for a couple months now and I'm very pleased with it. I purchased it because of a recommendation from my sewing class teacher. I mostly do garment work and you really just use a few basic stitches and this is great. There are frills it doesn't have, but it's been very usable regardless. I am somewhat skeptical of its "heavy duty" claims since the gears are all plastic, but I have had no issues. It shipped quickly and in good condition. I'm very happy with this purchase. ... show more

  • Messes up a lot
I wanted so badly to love this machine. In 1995ish my husband spent about $150 on a Kenmore machine for me. I loved it. Nothing fancy, but great quality. In 2014 I finally wore it clear out. I went to buy a new one. Sears told me they no longer sell machines, but the Kenmore was actually a Janome. At the time I couldn’t afford a Janome so I bought a common, brand name machine for around $150. It’s okay, but not quite the power I hoped for and it has some difficulties with bouncing a lot. Finally, I decided to buy myself the Janome I always wanted. For the first couple of weeks it was fantastic. Easy to operate. Quiet. Smooth. But then it wasn’t. It literally unthreads itself while I’m sewing. The bobbin jumbles a lot. The thread breaks while I’m sewing (I typically use Coats & Clark). And when winding a new bobbing it is nearly impossible to unlock the fly wheel so the needle jumps up and down the whole time. I am extremely disappointed in this machine. After wanting it for years, I have buyer’s remorse. By the way, I’m case you are wondering, I have been sewing for 45 years. I do theater costuming and lots of alterations for weddings, proms, etc. I do know how to operate a machine. ... show more

  • Not what I bought it for, but keeping it
Bought it to sew leather projects. Thought it would be a cheaper way. Thinner leather is good. Will sew thicker just not the way I wanted. Still a nice machine and very easy to use. I needed a new one anyway since the one am using was my mother in laws and has a few problems.

  • It’s a good machine, at a reasonable cost.
Iv’e had a New Home for about 50 years and don’t find this machine as simple and easy, to do certain tasks, such as threading the needle and loading the bobbin, I’m sure once I become accustomed to it, it will become easier.

  • Five Stars
This is a great little machine. No problems at all. Well worth the money.

  • Not well made nor easy to use. Save up for a better model.
This is an acceptable machine for basic sewing. The stitches, such as they are, are fine, and the buttonhole maker works, except that you can't really see where the buttonhole starts and stops because of the opaque presser foot. Find a colored, non-permanent marking pen and mark the starting and stopping points of the buttonhole well, and hope for the best. I am annoyed that the 3rd time I tried to disengage the fly wheel in order to wind a bobbin, the wheel jammed and could not be budged, so I had to wind a bobbin at a very slow speed because the needle was still going up and down. This should not happen with a new machine. I bought a basic machine because after years of buying high end products, I found I never used 2/3rds of the features offered, so I wanted a sturdy and dependable basic machine. Janome has a good reputation. Unfortunately, I was disappointed with this product. Basically I took a gamble and bought the machine online, and really, a person should try a sewing machine in real life to get the feel of it. It's not a good deal, no matter what you pay, if you don't like the machine when using it. I tried my best to like this machine, but it's not easy to do. I am giving it away and buying another of the brand I prefer. ... show more

  • Will last forever
Super basic and easy to use, incredibly heavy duty, a great first machine, an ideal forever machine. I won't use it often, but I know I'll always be able to count on it!
