I'm going to sound like a marketing agent here (I'm not), but Jaking makes high quality art kits at very affordable prices. They obviously care about what they do - the most obvious sign is that every single pencil in this kit was inserted with the label facing directly up making it easy to see color, hardness, media etc. I've never seen that kind of attention to detail in any other brand of art supplies from China, and as a Vines participant I've tried a lot of them. The case is well built - the zipper has a rubber pull to make it easy to find and grip, the case's recycled fabric seems tough and is reinforced with a hard cardboard, there are no loose threads or weak seams that I can find. It's also thoughtfully laid out giving easy access to everything. The choice of materials included in this 85 piece set was also well thought out. You can read the full product description for all the details but you get 12 colored pencils with all the primary and secondary colors, 12 watercolor pencils with the same set of colors, 12 metallic pencils with an appropriate color selection, 3 black charcoal pencils (hard, medium and soft), 3 white charcoal pencils (hard medium and soft), 4 pastel pencils in skin tones for use with the charcoal, and 14 graphite pencils with hardness from 6H to 14B. The accessories in this kit are also very well thought out and complete - 3 blending stumps (large medium and small), a pencil extender so you can use them down to the nub, a flat brush to use to saturate the watercolor paper before using the W.C. pencils (and you can use it dry to blend the charcoal and graphite as well as dusting after erasing), a kneaded eraser for highlights (in a case so it won't dry out and harden), a plastic art eraser, a plastic and a metal sharpener (use the plastic for the watercolor pencils), a sharpening pad, and a blending brush with reservoir (use water for watercolor pencils, solvent for colored pencils). And I'm sure I'm leaving something out. For paper you get small pads (roughly 6" x 8") of 68 lb sketch paper, 98 lb sketch paper, 140 lb water color paper, 110 lb toned paper, and 90 lb colored pencil paper. (The number of sheets in each varies as the thickness of the paper varies.) While you can use these pads for finished art works, they are excellent for experimenting and testing with different media combinations and techniques. Once you find the combination that works you can order larger pads of the same weight and type in the size you want for your finished work. There are also a couple instruction books - to be honest I haven't looked at them yet. If you're new to art I'd recommend going to the Tube of You and searching for beginner videos on the various media types- there's a wealth of information by great teachers available for free and you can find videos on all the media included in the kit including the papers and accessories. Obviously this is a great kit for beginners, but I even think this is a good kit for pros - great for experimentation and you can replace the media with your own favorite brands in any combination. The media in this kit are not necessarily top-of-the-line pro quality - that would cost hundreds - but in my opinion they are good quality and very usable. I highly recommend all the Jaking Creart Master products - I have two different kits now (the 58 piece and this) and I haven't found anything serious to criticize in either. This is a great set for a beginner to intermediate artist. I just dabble in coloring/drawing and found this set has everything I need in it and more. I did not find the instructional booklet very useful. The colors are vibrant and the charcoal pencils are nice. I have been using this set above all my other pencils and markers since receiving it. The different sketching pads are awesome for practice. An experienced artist might use this set as a backup. Definite awesome set for the price. ... show more

This is an excellent little set. I got it for my son who loves to draw. He has received other sets in the past with similar supplies, but what sets this one apart is the assortment of different papers for him to try. Art supplies are expensive so this is a really affordable way for him to experiment and figure out what he prefers without spending a lot of money. ... show more

This set is great for someone just beginning their artistic drawing journey. It's also great as a travel set for one who's already an accomplished artist. There is a selection of several types of drawing media and papers too. They also included some instructions. I deducted one star for two reasons. The first is because the "lesson" book was written by someone who obviously does not speak English. It's too hard to understand. The second reason is because my set was missing one of the pads of paper that should have been included. This set is pretty inclusive of everything you need to get started with colored pencils, drawing and watercolor pencils. It has 5 different kinds of paper to experiment with, along with two drawing books. There are sharpeners, blenders, sand paper and more. The case is very nice too. It advertises as professional grade but I would say it is more for beginners. For the price, it is a great set. The grammar and spelling in the description and in the instructions is terrible so it should be fixed or left out. Other than that, this would make a nice gift. ... show more
