  • Really cool!
I always wanted a Mosrite guitar and this copy is great. Looks awesome plays very well out of the box. Intonation was right on. The nut could be a little lower. The neck is very nice maple. It’s very big and thick which doesn’t bother me, but might bother someone with small hands. The guitar is also very heavy. The trem works really great with a roller bridge. It actually stays in tune! I would love to see this guitar with a chambered body and baritone option. ... show more

  • Surprising.
I've always wanted a Ventures style guitar but could never justify the expense for a guitar I wasn't sure I would like but this was on sale and I decided to take a chance. Glad I did. This is without a doubt the best inexpensive guitar I have ever acquired. Right out of the box it was completely playable. Even though they were ok I replaced the strings and did a very little fret work and oiled the fretboard. I didn't even have to adjust the saddles. I took it apart to be sure that there were none of the loose or badly soldiered wires but everything was tight and well done. I've had name brand guitars that weren't as well made. Played through an amp it sounds exactly like I had hoped. I might eventually get a set of locking tuners. Normally I would get a roller bridge but damn if it didn't already come with one and the bigsby style vibrato performs perfectly. I just can't put this guitar down. I play it every more than my Fender Jazzmaster. ... show more

  • Good, but be ready to clean
First off, I do like the guitar. No sharp frets, plays well, feels great against the body. No neck dive. Tuners seem ok. Fretboard not too dry. Mine came tuned to D standard, for some reason, so I intonated and left it in D. Pickups sound good and take high gain surprisingly well. Be ready to clean. Mine arrived incredibly dirty. Way more than your usual factory dust. Strings immediately made your fingertips black, and there was a weird film of greasy dirt all over the guitar. For example, underneath the pickup rings has a layer of shielding tape like under a pickguard, which is nice, but it had so much grease and dirt that I thought it was signs of burning. Thankfully most of it came off after soaking in warm, soapy water. For the rest of the body, I gave up on wiping with naphtha and went with soapy water followed immediately by a paper towel to keep water from sitting too long. (Naptha for the neck, because it is just wood). After the cleaning, it's great! ... show more

  • Some things you should know.
I have been on a cheap guitar kick of late and this is my latest acquisition. I love P90's, I prefer Bigsby's, and I wanted something retro/funky to jam with. I do my own setups so I don't shy away from this price point when it checks my boxes. It's not perfect. The nut was a little tight on the 3 largest strings and would pull them out of tune slightly when I used the vibrato. A few minutes with a nut slot file set and that is no longer an issue. The intonation was close, but not 100% more like 95%. There is a screw that holds the neck pickup in place that sticks up above the pickup about 2mm (not a playability issue, but noticeable and seems like I made need to drill a deeper hole to get it to go in more). That all said, post modifications it plays great, sounds great and seems like the hardware is pretty decent. The tremolo works fine for me, but I am not dive bombing all the time either. Definitely not Bigsby quality, but one of those is about the price of the whole instrument in this case. It nails that retro surf tone with that trem shimmer! The bridge is a roller style. The electronics seem solid so far. The tuner grips are huge! and turn smooth and the tuners hold tune well. The neck is THICK, like super chonk which I like, but will not be everyone's cup of tea. I would say that if you are a beginner, you would very likely need a quality setup to not be discouraged by the tuning issues. If you don't mind about 20 minutes of work with the proper tools, I think you could end up as satisfied as I am with an absolute tank of an instrument. Its a keeper for me. ... show more

  • It came from Planet Claire ...
As a fan of the Ventures and, more so, Ricky Wilson (look him up, kids). Now, as soon as it arrived, I gutted it and painted it surf blue. That totally made it pop. Of course, it's not a Moserite, but ... It's pretty darned close. Good sound, good vibe. The trem is the only real issue I have with it, but, again, it's not a Moserite in that aspect. All in all, it's a groovy guitar that I love. Set up was minimal. Value is exceptional. Hold tune, but I am still going to replace the tuner with locking. I did change the bridge for more stability. ... show more
