  • 9.5/10 - better than more expensive brands!
I needed a boom arm for my Shure SM7B that was versatile not just in positioning the arm, but in vertical adjustment. Beforehand, I purchased a Gator Frameworks 3000 boom arm and didn't realize that this arm was limited to vertical positioning (sucks because it wasn't cheap!) So, I was in the pursuit of a new arm and lo and behold, this one hit it on the nail! PROS: - Extremely sturdy and didn't slide off my desk like the Gator boom - Super easy to install, even has an extension arm for further reach - Stable - hasn't moved an inch - Cost-effective against competitors - no need to waste more for limited features, this is enough! CONS: - The vertical positioning ball needs to be adjusted where the cutoff is holding the weight. If you just position the mic with the rolling ball open in the bottom, it will fall, but just takes some adjustment, nothing too hard (see photo) - The 3/8 adapter got stuck to my SM7B adapter so I suggest putting some lube or WD-40! It was a mission to take off, I had to ask my husband lol. Overall, 9.5/10 and great buy! ... show more

  • A Captains Salute for MIc Arm
Pros • Ease of install • Stability • Adjustability • Grommet Mounting • No sag • Decent Cable management Cons • Not as slim as the Hero Overview (4.7 stars) Let’s start with support as that is the most important part of a boom arm. There are plenty of mic boom arms out there and the weak point is generally the spring that supports and holds the mic at a certain height and level. Many tend to sag or fall. That is where the Captain model shines as it is set it and forget for height and stability adjustments. When adjusting height levels etc. the movement is fluid. Mic adjustment is done via a twist screw mechanism. Unscrew it to adjust and then twist it to lock the position. Cable Management is decent, with channel guides to route the cable through the arm. The issue is the plastic pieces that cover the arm snap in. It would have ben nice to have metal plates like on the Elgato. The only magnetic piece is the plate that goes over where you tighten the arm bend. It supports different adapter sizes. The best part is the cost compared to competitors, there are arms that are twice the cost and don’t have the same quality and support. To recap the IXTECH Microphone Boom Arm Mic Captain Edition is a 4.7-star addition to any setup. Its sturdy metal construction ensures durability and a professional aesthetic. The sleek black finish and streamlined design add elegance, complemented by an effective cable management system. With exceptional adjustability. Installation is a breeze with clear instructions and provided tools. ... show more

The media could not be loaded. The specifications indicated that it supported a weight of 2.2 pounds but the microphone that I placed on it weighs 1.8 pounds (Skate Digital) + the spider shock mount and it cannot support it. Then I put a smaller microphone (MXL 990) on it and it supported the weight without problems. It is a little fragile but it is quite long, if the microphone is not heavy there will be no problem, in my case I had to change it ... show more

  • Absolutely fantastic.
So.. I'm going to start, by stating that my setup at my desk is a bit weird. Currently my monitor is on a full swing arm that allows me to move it about 2-3ft to the left, right, up or down. As such, I may have the monitor in multiple different areas of my desk, depending on what I'm doing. Additionally, it's not unheard of for me to swing my monitor over to a SECOND desk, so I can compare multiple monitors at once. Finding a mic arm, that is as flexible as my monitor stand, has been a chore. The fact that I want the mic up and completely off the desk, and out of the way (like, completely out of the way) has always been the issue. Prior to this, I was using a weighted mic stand, that I would move around as I worked, which mean tracking cords... "whoops.. just unpluged" .. "wait.. why is the mic not working", THEN trying to find a place to add a filter in front of the mic, just made it even worse. After running over a $100 mic cable, for the 5th time, now.. was I finally convinced to just find the right solution. I'd seen IXTech arms for a couple of years now, but had never gotten around to trying out one of their arms, instead opting for the crazy expensive ones that never quite met my demands. It arrived a day after ordering it, and I managed to get it set up pretty quickly. ... and the difference with my workflow is light night and day. I currently have the mic positioned on the left edge, of the right hand desk, so it can easily extend out to either desk, and it has such a high arc, it can actually reach over the top of my monitor on the extended arm.. OR, underneath it, if the montor is fully extended out and lifted up. Best of all, when I'm not needing the mic, I simply lift it upwards, and out of the way (it sits about 3ft to the upper left of me.. easily reachable, and yet retracted enough that it doesn't get bumped, ever. The cable management isn't bad, but I do recommend using the included velcro and adhesive channels. I've seen some people complain about the cabling being on the top portion of the arm.. but I'm not sure why people would be upset by that. No more drooping cables, and more support overall. The stability would be better, if the base had dual set screws to help with the wobble, but then the flexibility and ease of movement would be reduced. Quality seems good, with little to no vibration heard in the mic (Yeti), but I'll likely get a shock mount and pop filter for it, just to keep my voice work from having any exterior noise interference. Not gonna lie, wish I would have gotten one of these things sooner.. they're absolutely fantastic. Strongly recommended, and will likely be my go to for any future projects requiring a setup like this. ... show more
