Description

Japanese tetsubin (iron teapots) evolved from larger vessels used centuries ago to heat water for tea and provide warmth and humidity in the home during the winter. The hobnail design is one of the oldest and most classic tetsubin designs, favored by many for its simple beauty. Iwachu is one of the finest and most respected manufacturers of Japanese ironware, with a company history of over 100 years. Today, craftsmen at Iwachu pay respect to this tradition by infusing each product with skilled precision and detail throughout the entire manufacturing process. The superior quality, beauty, and lasting durability of Iwachu products have earned them the worldwide reputation as the leading manufacturer of authentic Japanese tetsubin.

  • Very good product
Beautiful in shape and very warm. Handle not hot.

  • Pretty package, low quality product
The black enamel coating began flaking off while I was rinsing the teapot out before the first use, so I returned it. Since there are only two reviews of this particular teapot, I am not entirely sure if the one I received just happened to be defective, or if this is a more systemic problem. However, I just looked through Amazon and found other Iwachu products reviewed and it looks like it might be a common issue for this brand. I would highly recommend against purchasing this teapot. It's too expensive to have to worry about bad enameling. ... show more

  • Beautiful, high quality teapot
You can find hobnail teapots that look similar to this, but the iron and craftmanship of this pot are excellent and worth the extra cost. Exterior and interior have been finished with care.

  • Pretty good, pretty good
At the right price, although won't keep tea too warm. Not ideal for Gyokuro, great for general Sencha. The design and material is wunderbar (and made in Japan).

  • Go with the authentic
clearly all the others are cheap knock offs trying to be this. as a general rule, always pay more and get an authentic, quality product. this thing is beautiful.

  • Real Japanese so it's an indulgence
I've always wanted a made-in-Japan Tetsubin teapot, so splurged on this. I guess I could be drinking the same tasting tea out of a Dollar Store creamic teapot, but the heft of the pot, the way it pours without dripping, even the warmth that extends to its exterior -- I just like the experience.

  • Damaged spout finish on arrival
Damaged spout finish on arrival. The teapot itself looks beautiful and the design is classic. However, the spout arrived with visible damage on the enamel finish. As you can see in the photos, the edge of the spout is chipped/scratched. For a Japanese cast iron teapot, I expected better quality control or protection during shipping. The packaging looked fine, so this might be a manufacturing or handling issue before shipping. It is disappointing to receive a new product with visible damage. ... show more

  • Great Authentic Japanese Teapot !
One of the famous Japanese Ironware maker. This Teapot comes with a premium but it's made to last and true made in japan cast iron teapots. the quality is top notch and inside it comes with a guide that shows also all the steps in the making of this ironware. Keep in mind this "Tsubasa" is not meant to be used on flames. There is a coating inside. The actual Tsubasa are made in Cast Iron without that internal coating and they are used to boil water in traditional Japanese tea ceremony. the water is being poured in traditional ceramic/clay teapots. Nevertheless as a teapot this is an awesome one and you won't regret it ! Enjoy ... show more
