This I'd a great wine frig! It is in fact a refrigerator not a cooler. A lot of people complain about the sound, probably because they are used to a cooler. I find this to be almost as quiet as a cooler. With way better cooling capability. There is a very small amount of noise when the compressor kicks in but it is negligible. The frig is very stylish and holds a lot of wine and keeps it at temp. The interior light is a plus for style, looks cool! I would highly recommend this product. Great for the price as well. I bought this model because it was recommended by a couple different sites and it sounded like no one should expect incredible things from a 20-30 bottle wine storage unit that costs around $300. Only just arrived (I'll update a few months from now), but here are my first impressions about some specific issues I was concerned about: 1. Noise. Our apartment is a loft style, so I was worried to hear some reviews discussing how noisy their unit was. To be honest, I dont understand what the concern is about. True, it's a compressor unit (like any wine fridge that will actually keep your wines at the desired temperature), but I've had many mini-fridges that were much louder, and it's easy to forget it's even on. You can't hear it from the other side of the room--about 20 feet away. 2. Space. I got the larger model because I saw several complaints on different Ivation models about not being able to fill the cooler to capacity. Maybe it is a new model or a manufacturing flaw, but I discovered not all the shelves have the same clearance. I assume this is so that fatter bottles can go in one shelf and thinner/longer bottles on another. I currently have 24 bottles in the fridge (and have left the last 4 spaces at the bottom unoccupied). That said, a) I did have to put one bottle backwards to make it fit. I'm sure a bit more rearranging and it would have stored properly, b) the top shelf is not as deep as the others, so not all bottles will fit there. In summary, yes, you have to be a bit strategic about how to fit everything, but unless you're hoping to store 28 bottles of Pinot Noir, you should be able to use all, or almost all the capacity with a bit of rearranging. And it's easy to spend more money on a smaller cooler. 3. Cooling. I'm not a big white wine fan, so I probably won't be putting this cooler down to its minimum temperature. However, I'd read that some people had trouble getting it down to 55 degrees, which had me a bit worried. It's been on for three hours now, it's pretty full, and we're already at 59 degrees despite the room being a bit warm. I did let it cool down empty before putting the bottles in, and this may have been a difference. 4. The smell. I know this disapates with time, but a lot of people complained about the smell out of the box. Indeed, it stinks. A lot. We have four very large windows, we opened all of them, and it still smelled a bit. However, the smell went away after about 2-3 hours. So just open it up on a day when you can leave the windows open, and you should be fine. 5. Size. Some people had complained that it was too large. Amazingly, I own a measuring tape and actually checked it would fit in the space I had in mind. Guess what? It did! That said, if you're expecting the dimensions of a mini fridge, you'll notice it seems a bit narrow and tall. I imagine this was to fit the maximum bottles in the smallest space possible. And since I paid $300 for it (and the measurements are listed online), I'm fine with the result. In summary, it's not perfect, but the negative reviews on here are, in my opinion, a bit overblown. I think you'd be hard-pressed to find a better option with this capacity around this price point. UPDATE: four months in, the cooler is still working the same as the day it arrived. It seems the changing temperature occurs because it's designed to keep your wine within five degrees of the temperature you set on the cooler. For this reason, I keep the cooler set to 53 degrees, and it always reads a temperature between 53 and 58 (i.e. average of about 55, where it should be). I've talked to my supplier and other wine enthusiasts, and it sounds like this is a pretty common occurrence and nothing to worry about. As to the noise, after living with it in a fairly quiet apartment, I can say you only really can hear the noise when all your appliances are off and the windows are closed. My desk for work is right next to it, and I haven't found this to be an issue at all. In sum, it still gets 5 stars and I think it's a great deal for the price. ... show more

Honest review here. This wine fridge has really good qualities, but a couple that aren’t great. The GOOD: It looks good. The wood shelves are very cool. It keeps great temperature. It holds lots of bottles for the price. The glass door lets you see inside w/o opening it. The not-as-good: It doesn’t regulate humidity, but I knew that when I bought it. (I bought it because I’m cheap; that’s the nice word for it.) Also, 28 bottles fit nicely, IF they have a diameter of 3” or less. If you put in wider bottles (more than 3”, which are very trendy), they will get stuck and you have to fight to get them in and out of the fridge. Overall, I’m glad I have it and I don’t regret buying it. But, if you have the funds, get one that regulates humidity in addition to temp and with shelves that accommodate wider bottles. ... show more

Was running quietly when I first got it, but after a couple of months, the motor sounded really loud. I reached out for support and was told to unplug it and leave it off for a while and then plug it back in. I had already done that and knew it fixed it for a short time sometimes, sometimes not. So after they telling me to do it, I did and it worked, but it seemed that I needed to do that at least monthly, now I just got used to the very loud running daily. Would not buy this again or recommend it because of the problem with it and fact that support knew there was an issue and instead of doing the right thing and replacing it, told me to just unplug it for a while and then restart. ... show more

    • Great wine refrigerator for the price

After researching and getting some responses to questions here on Amazon from other owners, I've been pleased with this wine refrigerator. The noise level is acceptable; not really any worse than a normal fridge, though I think if the back had a cover (over the compressor area), it would mute the sound more. Probably necessary to be open for ventilation purposes. On the plus side, it only comes on maybe twice per hour and for only about 1 minute at a time. I have mine in the main room near the TV, and if the TV is on, don't really notice it. In terms of questions I had asked about storing pinot noir sized bottles, pleased to report that there is no issue. In fact, the bottom couple shelves have more spacing between them than the top 3 (sort of saw that in the photos, but wasn't sure until I got it). Pinot bottles fit just fine; can alternate direction to get 4 across. I did invert the second shelf from the top to create 2 larger slots (lose one space) to allow larger-width bottles there. Checked temp with a thermometer and it is within +/-3 degrees. Overall, very happy with this product so far! ... show more

The one thing I like about this wine cooler is that it keeps my white wine very chilled. It is quiet - not sure what the reviews about it being noisy are about; because it is not loud at all. It is pretty so that is a plus. I also like the wood racks..... however; there are several things I have an issue with...... First - you have to assemble the handle on the door and it is not easy - you have to peel back the seal from the inside of the door to attach handle. We got it on but I did not like the fact that you had to peel the seal away to do it because you feel like it breaks the tight seal. They could have shipped with the handle in place. Second - there is no way this holds 28 bottles. You can get 3 standard wine bottles per shelf. So at best you can get 21 and that would be a tight fit. The shelves are very close together - I removed one just to have more space in the cooler. If you want a great wine cooler, spend more money and get a better one. I am keeping it because it does chill my white wine very well; and it would be a pain to return it. ... show more

I loved my last wine refrigerator made by Haier and didn’t think I could find a replacement that would meet it’s specifications. I am surprisingly pleased with this Ovation product. It has a very aesthetically pleasing look, sleek, clean and modern looking. The wooden shelves offer a nice touch and I like the ability to slide out the shelves to remove the bottles with ease. The size fits the space in my kitchen perfectly. The handle was extremely easy to attach, and the look and utility of using the handle are perfect. I haven’t filled to capacity, so I cannot attest to the bottle size issues I have read in other reviews, but no real problems thus far. Was instlled 10 minutes ago. Can't attest to how it works, but it looks nice. Adjustable legs should be longer to allow for varying cabinet heights. I will need to have a carpenter make a podium so it will sit properly in the space. That is disappointing.
