This inkless printer is compact and easy to set up. I was able to connect to my laptop and print out the file using regular paper. Print quality is acceptable. It's easy to use and travel with. But you will need to buy more ribbons later.

First, the product description lies that it supports Linux and it doesn't. They don't publish PPDs / driver for linux. So I give the product one star for knowingly publishing a false description. They probably assume few enough people will be affected by it that they can just get away with it. Unfortunately, I was one of the few. I was able to get it working with the mobile app over bluetooth. But the print quality was terrible and barcodes were completely blended together and no longer scannable. I tried with the "light" setting and then when that was terrible, I tried the "dedicated" setting and this picture is what that did to the printer ribbon, which is now ruined.

The app for my iPhone was easy to find and install. The setup and pairing with the phone and printer was smooth and easy. Getting everything ready and printing my first page only took a few minutes. It took a few tries to figure out how to get the paper in without being crooked. I found that if I held the paper loosely by the bottom edge and slid it in quickly until it stopped, then it pulled in straight. The error I was making was trying to align the paper as I slid it in slowly, and the printer would automatically grab it and pull it in crooked. There are no long guides to help you align the paper. The case that came with the printer is very nice. It is a “firm shell” with a quality zipper and space for the printer and cables. This thermal printer requires a thermal ribbon to print regardless of the type of paper you use. The thermal ribbon reminds me of carbon paper but on a roll and heat-activated. The P831 can print on plain or thermal paper. I did not find the printouts to be that pleasing. While the ink is dark and the text legible, the weight of the ink is very uneven on plain paper as well as thermal paper. It reminds me of an old manual typewriter where part of a letter is much darker than the other part of the same letter. You should be able to see what I am talking about in my photos. On the plus side, the ink does not smear if it gets wet. For students, I would not want to hand in class assignments printed with this, and as a business professional, this would be bad news. Each ribbon can print about 45 pages, which is about 28 cents per sheet. If you use thermal paper, the cost is about 22 cents per sheet. This is about 50 cents per page. That is a high printing cost. This is definitely a niche product when you need to print when no other option is available. If you are a traveling vendor needing to print a basic invoice on the go, this would get the job done.

I have other portable printers and they do not measure up to this one. One of the biggest advantages is that it has a really nice storage case with a handle. This makes it easy for transporting as well as storing in your purse or briefcase. This company went all out. The printer is lightweight and easy to carry. I don’t print that much anymore but when I need a printer, I need it to be reliable. The Itari Portable Printers, Wireless Printer is easy to set up, has Bluetooth capability and prints on demand. I like that it prints different size papers, which is super convenient. You can’t expect a laser print quality but the quality of the print is pretty good. I highly recommend this printer.
