  • Excellent premium workboots!
Size: 11 Wide Color: Black
To me a work boot is all about durability first and comfort second and I am simply in awe about the Irish Setter Wingshooter XD boots. On first look these boots look and feel very very rugged! The outer leather layer is thick and flexible with a nice, prominent leather patterning. The eyelets and hooks feel super strong as are the laces. Stitching is nice with no frays or defects. The toe has a rubber nosepad protecting the leather even further. The sole is probably on of the thickest I have ever worn made out of a Goodyear rubber and offers a lot of protecting yet is still very flexible. Toe protection is provided by a Thermoplastic Polyurethane one piece cap which, as far as I can tell, is as hard and protective as the steel caps without the dangers that come with them. Slip resistance is better than great and I have had zero issues coming from mud or water onto smooth concrete or even tile. Which brings me to water resistance, for the month I have been using them there has been zero water intrusion even with me standing in almost 4" of water. Now you would think that you would sacrifice at least some comfort for all the protection offered but I would rate the Irish Setter Wingshooter boots at the top of the list for comfort of all the brands of workboots I have worn over the last 30 odd years. My feet feel great even after nine plus hours of work, no arch pain and little foot fatigue. Finally the fit is perfect for the size I have chosen, even in a world where buying shoes and boots online is kind of a gamble as to whether they will perfectly match the size chosen. My opinion? You cannot go wrong with the Irish Setters even at the premium price!!! ... show more

  • Solid Workboots
Size: 11.5 Wide Color: Brown
This is my first exposure to the Irish Setter brand, and I was pleasantly surprised to see that it is part of the Red Wing family. I really like my Iron Rangers and other Red Wings so I had high hopes for these work boots as I was unboxing them. The boots fit as expected when ordering my usual size, which is good because Iron Rangers tend to run large and I typically buy a half-size down. But these work boots were right on the money sizewise. They appear to be very durable and the safety toe feels strong and solid even though it is non-metallic. I was able to adjust the laces over the length of the boot to get the perfect fit, but I did notice that the tongue appears to have a lot of extra fabric and leather that when bunched up with laced boots creates a bit of pressure point on my lower leg. I was able to make a few adjustments and the tongue flattened out. Hopefully with wear the tongue will learn that position and not be a nuisance. The only negative I encountered is that the sole is very stiff. Probably the stiffest sole I've had in work boots. I am hoping that's an indication of its durability but that it will also loosen up a little with time. Walking made me feel like Frankenstein's monster at first given how big the boots are and their stiffness. After 5 minutes I had adapted pretty well, so not a big problem, and use will certainly make the situation better. As too looks these are tough looking boots if you like the moc-toe styling. I expect to have a good experience with these boots over a long period of time. ... show more

Size: 12 Wide Color: Black
These leather boots have been an amazing investment. I've been wearing them regularly, 8+ hours some days, and never had any pain/rubbing. They're extremely durable, easy to wipe/keep clean and keep my feet safe. I'm a project guy and am always working with heavy tools, etc so these boots give me peace of mind on comfort and safety. ... show more

  • Excellent Boots!
Size: 11 Color: Brown
Great quality boots! I imagine they will last a long time. They have a really clean look but are a little bulky due to being a safety work boot.

  • Some fit issues, some design disagreements
Size: 12 Color: Brown
Irish Setter is a brand I have always heard good things about. And I often admire their boots when I see them, but have never owned a pair before this. Some of what I expected was there, but there were a few facets I did not like. First and foremost, there is no question that these are rugged work boots. My feet feel protected from any direction and virtually any hazard. And furthermore, the materials are equally tough, from sole to pull loops. Now, here's one of my first quibbles though, the rubberized "deck plating" material that is on the toe cap also goes up the vamp to the base of the tongue, I couldn't really see that in the photos. Aesthetically I don't like it, though it doesn't detract from durability or protection at all. Speaking of the tongue, it is gusseted almost all the way up, which I definitely approve of, wet socks are the worst. But even with that gusset, the double hook design still allows for easy on and off. And those hooks and eyelets are solid metal and built to last. Another aesthetic disagreement is the big XD buckle on the laces, but I can (and did) remove that at least. As for fit and comfort, mixed feelings. They are work boots, so I don't expect a huge amount of comfort, they are always going to be heavy and stiff-soled. The lacing allows for a nicely adjustable fit, but as a whole they are just too wide for my feet. I don't have especially narrow feet either. Given the stiffness of the material, it's just not possible for me to get a great fit out of them. Especially with their heft, they aren't comfortable for me to wear for a length of time. Which is a shame, they are definitely built as such that you could wear them for years. ... show more
