This is not my first pair of Irish Setters and they definitely met my expectations. For me, I've never needed to break them in, I've always just wore them right out the box and it's been 5 days and no soreness or issues. I'm on my feet all day framing and walking on large gravel, mud and rough surfaces so if that helps any trades people out.

Fit perfectly. Great quality materials and construction. Warm, comfortable, and waterproof. This 9" Steel toe logger work boot from Irish setter, continues the tradition of a rugged work boot made with durable materials. That's a real winner, and this is the perfect gift idea for the most important people in your life. It's a great value as these are made to last for a good many years. The outsole is non slip rubber from Vibram and you can pretty much take these things hiking if you really wanted to. The material inside will definitely keep your feet dry too which is always my biggest concern with these. Many times, your feet will get sweaty and then out in the cold, it will cause them to be uncomfortable. There's plenty of room for heavier socks if you like, but they're decently warm with hiking socks as well. The sole has a good wet and dry grip, and they're waterproof as advertised. I rode a motorcycle 3 hours in steady rain and me feet stayed warm and dry. The construction is great, and the materials are heavy-duty as expected for work boots. They also come with a decent insole, so you don't have to immediately get Dr Scholls if you don't want to. The break-in period is normal, but they were comfortable enough for all-day use right out of the box. These boots keep your feet from getting all sweated up no matter how thick your socks are. It allows them to breath comfortably while staying nice and warm. This is the non-insulated waterproof version, and provides good comfort with solid support and protection. These are the type of boots that will make it so you don't notice. Really! I used these to do a day of cutting wood for the upcoming winter season. This means cutting fallen trees up, carrying that to the truck and then coming home to split them all up for putting in the fireplace or wood stove. On uneven ground you want a boot that will keep you ankle supported so even if you step onto uneven ground, you won't get a sprain...which is very easy to do when doing wood. Nice lace system ensures a secure and snug fit every time. The chocolate leather construction looks as good as it performs. A solid value.

The Irish Setter Pipestone work boots are an excellent choice for anyone needing a dependable and comfortable work boot. I got these boots for my nephew who works construction. He was needing some nice boots and his birthday was coming up so I took the dive. I heard Irish Setter was a great brand from others. They are made by Red Wing. I can't argue about the quality of the boot. It was well made. The leather was soft and the stitching was quality. The color was dead on. The boots are also lightweight and the bottoms are thick and flexible. You can tell they will hold up. They are also waterproof and did keep his feet dry in the wet weather. I only gave it 4 stars because they didn't fit him well and they were not very comfortable to start with. They are breaking in and getting more comfortable. Hopefully the more he wears them they will get more comfortable. I know this was probably just because of the way his foot is. All shoes don't fit the same on everyone. He is 5'9" and around 175 lbs. I would recommend these to others.

These boots are awesome, but after wearing them, here are some things I want you to know: 1. Break-In Period. It’s been a while since I’ve received a pair of boots that started out this stiff. After a few days they begin to loosen up. Just give it time. 2. I do notice the extra material inside the back of the boot around the heel. There is also extra material on the outside of the boot in the back. Maybe that’s why I feel some pressure around my heels. It’s borderline “uncomfortable.” I’m hoping that this will also loosen up in time. Of course this does add an extra layer of protection and support around the heels. 3. I simply do NOT like the insole. This is one of the thinnest insoles I’ve seen in a boot in a long time. That said, it’s no problem for me to change them out with a thicker insole with more arch support. The other features about this boot are absolutely outstanding. 4. These Pipestone boots do not have a Goodyear welt constructed outsole. It is described as a “one piece unitized polyurethane sole construction." However, they are designed to be resolable to extend their life! 5. The boot I ordered is a soft toe boot (NOT the steel toe or steel toe equivalent). What I Really Like: ✅ These are true work boots that should take a beating and last a long time! ✅ The leather looks great! ✅ Sizing was exact. My 12EE / 12W fits me perfect. ✅ The outsole is very comfortable for walking (maybe this makes up for the thin insole). ✅ The color brown matches the images & is exactly as I expected. ✅ Meets ASTM certification for SOFT TOE protection. (I did not order the steel toe equivalent model). ✅ They are comfortable. I like the 6” height. The laces cinch up well providing good support. ✅ This boot provides great ankle support. ✅ The laces are just long enough for me to tie a Surgeon’s Knot (Double-Knot). This is a great work boot! I hate that the cream-color outsole got dirty after my first day of wearing them but that is to be expected with this style. Irish Settler boots are a classic -just give them time to “settle in!”

These are built by Irish Setter under the Red Wing umbrella, and the construction reflects that lineage. Goodyear welt means the sole is stitched on rather than glued, resolable when the PU wedge finally wears down, which is how you get a decade out of a pair instead of three years. The full-grain oil-tanned leather breaks in and holds its shape the way split leather never does. The wide sizing came through accurate. I can feel the difference across the toe box compared to a medium width, which matters over a full shift on your feet. Break-in was noticeable the first few days but not punishing. The padded collar and lined tongue help there. The PU wedge outsole has the Traction Tred slip-resistant design and grips well on wet concrete and smooth floors. EH-rated construction meets ASTM F2892, which covers electrical hazard and slip resistance for most job site requirements. The speed hook at the top of the lace row locks the boot in securely without having to re-tie constantly through the day. Pros - Goodyear welt construction at this price point is rare and meaningful, these can be resoled, which extends the useful life significantly over cemented alternatives - Wide sizing runs accurate. Real room in the toe box without sloppiness in the heel Cons - The PU wedge outsole is comfortable but will compress with hard daily use over time. Condition the leather regularly to extend overall life - Not waterproof out of the box. The leather can be treated, but this requires an extra step for wet weather environments Bottom Line A legitimate work boot from a brand with real construction credentials. The resolable Goodyear welt is the headline, most boots at this price are disposable by comparison. These require a break-in period, but that is the trade for a boot that is built to last.
