I own a small farm (very small - 1 acre of diversified vegetable production), and since we don’t use any heavy equipment on the farm, I usually just wear tennis shoes in the summer time for breathability and to move quickly. Most steel toe work boots are too heavy, and too hot, for me. I’ve been trying out many types of boots over the years, since dirt tends to get inside any type of tennis shoe during the work days, and boots tend to prevent this. Finally learned about the benefits of an “unlined boot” like these Irish Setter Ashby boots, and so glad I did. These boots offer more protection than tennis shoes while working, but seem to be just as breathable - and I would know…I have notoriously sweaty feet. *** Photos take after months of heavy use on a farm (need to condition the leather later today) but still holding up very well. *** These boots will definitely benefit from regular cleaning with leather conditioner and any other type of boot care products you like to use. Prob not great for concrete work, or using with heavy machinery (you’d want steel toe for sure), but for light to medium duty work, these are great. I work about 10hrs every day, 7 days a week during the growing season. I am very tired, but not because of these boots. I bought the 11-Wide, and they fit perfectly. I have a wide toe box area, but thin ankles. I can cinch the laces tight enough that they won’t slip around, but my toes have just enough space to not feel cramped. I tend to use superfeet high arch work inserts, and they might help take up enough space so the boot laces can cinch down enough to hug my thin ankles. And they are very comfortable during my work days - these are the first boots I’ve owned that I genuinely forget I’m wearing them. Price was good, definitely the cheapest unlined work boots I could find, made with decent materials. The wedge sole might not be the best for using a shovel, but so far so good after 4 months of heavy use. I personally like the wedge sole over a lugged one though - easier to scrape off mud before coming inside. The leather is just thick enough to take some scrapes and abuse but still feel durable. The leather has molded to my feet very well. These will be my go-to boots for summer time work from here on out! ... show more

Perfect. I could not ask for more. This is my first Irish Setter boot I have purchased and I went with the wider option and they are just perfect. I am breaking them in but they feel good with boot socks on and really show that the quality is outstanding. I am really impressed as most boots kind of hurt for the first few weeks but these feel good almost like they are broken in already. The company that sent them put them in a REALLY COOL box like I have never seen and it really protected them to perfection, so kudos to them for the excellent new box strategy that is just epic. I am very happy with these boots I really could not ask for better. Color is nice, fit is perfect. They smell like leather. Awesome! ... show more

Quality was ok however my usual size (10 1/2 ee)was loose in the heel and very tight in the toes

I am normally a 11 —/2 but based on reviews I got half a size up which is 12 and they are not too loose. I wish they extended the toe box instead of making the middle part of the shoe wider but oh well. There will never be a perfect boot. They got itchy on my left foot and I don’t know why it comes and goes. They have more airflow than the “golden retriever” boots due to being thinner. If I lived somewhere cold I would buy the golden retriever ones again. But for down south it’s hot and they breathe better. So far so good 5 days in. I did replace the shoelaces as they were super thin ... show more

Pleasantly surprised that these have a leather welt vs. the current model of Ashby with a plastic welt. I believe these are an older model as they are no longer on the website and are made in the Dominican Republic, not Vietnam. Sprayed them with Aquaseal suede and nubuck spray and the water runs right off. I wouldn't wade in them, but excellent in puddles and wet grass. Awesome boots! ... show more

Great boots but be careful on sizing. I sized up at a Red Wing store as 12 wide. These run smaller and had to wear thick socks and soak the boots and wear them laced up tight two times to even be bearable to wear. Still tight in toe box. Label doesn’t indicate a wide set either.

Best boots I have ever worn. The price point is excellent and the quality is great. They are so comfortable to wear all day, and I get frequent compliments from others. The are basically Red Wing boots but at better price with very little break in. These are the only work boots I will wear, so nice I even wear them out casually. They look great with light pair of Levi’s. If you are on the fence about what boots to get, even traditional Red Wings, it’s a no brainer. Buy now. ... show more
