My 84 yr old dad got released from the acute rehab hospital to home rather than to subacute sooner than expected due to a shortage of subacute beds (covid problem) so we had to scramble to prepare our home for a wheelchair bound person. This chair has been an important part of this prep. It’s 1/3 the price of a mid-range power lift lazy boy (we’ve always used lazy boy) and it was delivered so quickly (lots of power lazy boys are on back order) . My dad had a complex fracture of the acetabulum (hip socket), tricky surgery with multiple plates and screws, and is non weight bearing on his left leg and hip for 8-12 weeks. So he’s having to do a lot of scoot pivot type transfers, which this chair facilitates very effectively. He’s so enjoying being able to sleep in a recliner again after 5 weeks in the hospital. We chose the faux leather beige chair with the wood handles at the end of the arm rests for ease of cleaning and so that he would have something sturdy to hold onto when doing transfers. There are a couple of negatives we’ve identified so far, but we’re not complaining because the positives far outweigh these. My dad is 6’ tall and normally this chair should work for that height, but he has long legs so his feet do hang off. Still not a deal breaker for us because he has to use a wedge to keep his feel quite elevated and that wedge works nicely on the footrest of this chair minimizing his feet hanging off. All the same, if you are taller and also have a longer inseam (33”+), I would think carefully about whether this chair will work for you. (Side note: my dad is 170# and the chair works well width wise for him and there is a little width to spare but not much.) Another slight negative is that the faux leather is slightly slippery. We think this will resolve with more use. It’s not dangerous for my dad — he’s not slipping out of the chair suddenly or anything like this — but he does tend to slide down slightly over the course of a couple of hours in the chair. Again for us not a deal breaker at all and we may add some anti-slip material to the seat if time/use doesn’t resolve this. My dad still struggles with the remote control. I wish the arrows and pictures were larger and clearer for an older person, but I’m confident he will get the hang of it sooner than later. He forgets the the button that lowers lower lift from stand to sit also eventually raises the footrest. It’s a little confusing but again not a deal breaker. One final note, the chair when raised to the end height seems slightly wobbly. Believe me, my dad is putting a lot of weight on one arm rest during transfers and the chair hasn’t once almost toppled over but you do see it wobble very slightly. At this point he is doing well so we don’t raise it to the end point during transfers so this minimizes or removes any wobble, but if you’re a taller, larger person and have to put a lot of weight on one arm rest to get up and down or transfer (even with the power lift), you may want to consider whether this chair would work for you. We have only had the chair for 6 days so can’t speak to durability but so far it seems like it will hold up nicely even with my dad using it about 12+ hours a day. We bought the extended Allstate warranty (5 years) just in case. Would we buy this chair again? 100x over YES. ... show more

This is an unusual 5 stars but it is well deserved. I chose a lift chair for my husband who had a stroke and has right side paralysis. I contacted Irene house through Amazon messages and gave them my husbands size height, and health issues. They recommended several models. We chose one and ordered. It arrived in a timely fashion and my son had it together in a few minutes. The chair was was well built, soft, and operated smoothly. Unfortunately it did not fit my husbands unique needs. I contacted Jessica through messages and this wonderful lady walked me through returning the chair and refun my total sales price very quickly. Jessica is a customer service angel. The chair: After spending 9 months sitting on her bed due to Covid, I purchased this chair as a Christmas present for my 86 year old mother in assisted living. After she received it, she called me every day to tell me that it had ‘changed her life!!!” Unfortunately, my mom passed away unexpectedly a few weeks later, so she got very little use out of her wonderful chair. When I went to pack up her belongings, I got to see the chair and it exceeded my expectations. It was gorgeous. Soft, sturdy and the perfect color gray. Now for part 2 of my review— The Company: I wrote to Irene to enquire about the return policy. I didn’t know what to expect, but thought I would ask. Actually, I felt badly even asking, but these are unusual times. I explained that my mom had passed away. A few days later, the company responded with a very kind note of condolence and to ask if I would accept a 30% refund and get to keep the chair. I gratefully accepted the offer and was so impressed that they would do that for a customer. I will never forget it. I have already told at least 10 people. Also...the chair is in Florida and I live in Boston so I donated the chair to my mom’s roommate—who cried her eyes out. Thank you. ... show more

I’ve had this chair for a couple weeks now. I am chronically ill, and unable to climb up the stairs to our bedroom, so I spend a majority of my days in this chair. My reasoning for picking this chair was that only a few chairs in our price range offered the infinity chair positions, and since I knew I’d be sleeping in it, that seemed important. When I put it all the way back, though, it’s like I’m inverted, so maybe I didn’t need that. It was relatively easy to put together. The fabric is not plush, but it’s not irritating. The place where I’m having the most difficulty is the arms. They do not have any cushioning, so I feel like my elbows are constantly grating on the machinery of the arms. Also, my legs are hanging over the foot rest. I am 5’7, so I am not terribly tall. It’s a good chair but I’m not sure how long it will be until I have to choose something else. ... show more

    • A couple of challenges:
The chair is attractive. Bought it for my 94 year old father who has limited mobility. The chair does not comfortabley fit a person who is over about 5' 10" effectively. My dad is about 6' 2", head doesn't rest well on the back (the back is too short) also his feet actually hang over the end of the foot rest. Additionally, the back of the chair does not seem to be well supported, when raising the foot rest and the back reclines, as he leans against the back of the chair, it "drops" several inches further back and seems loose. He is 186 lbs. Well below the max weight the chair should support. This is a concern, wondering if the chair will actually last very long. I was hoping for a much better product. However, the chair does provide the lift feature which does help him to stand easier. The one positive feature. ... show more
