  • Got it for my Mom - well organized, large type and colorful
This is the perfect iPad book for Seniors (or anyone really). It's logically divided into sections that make it a wonderful reference to go back to when you need a reminder on basic functions. This, along with a hands-on session with my 81 year old Mom, provided what she needed to get started with using this fascinating device. The print is larger in this book and the text and pictures are chunked out in such a way that learning can be done in a modular way ... a little at a time. The perfect kind of book for my Mom and anyone else who may be older or just wants to learn the iPad basics in a nice, easily consumable manner. ... show more

  • Pretty good, maybe the best one - but
I've been using PCs since the early 80s and the iPad 3 is my first Apple product. I'm learning to love it and I did get some very good help from this book. What's missing, in my opinion, is a crosswalk of the file management tasks you do in Windows to how you do the same things in ios6. I really floundered and experimented a bunch - and overwrote a lot of test albums - before I figured out how photo albums really work. Now the iPad is filling up with pictures (Thanks, New Zealand!!) and I've got to figure out how to delete a bunch of other photos I have copies of on my laptop. I don't see a way to delete an album. Maybe it's not the book, just ios6 trying to protect me from myself. Anyhow, very useful. Maybe next: 'iPad for Senior Windows Users'?? ... show more

  • Very, very helpful.
I am learning alot. I like the larger print even though I don't really need it as I don't wear glasses or need help in seeing, but it is nice to have larger print in a reference book as you are sometimes using the item at the same time and you don't lose your place as easily. It is easy to follow. Haven't gotten to half way yet, but so far am enjoying the presentation of subjects. As a senior and learning features I know my very young relations don't know yet is going to be a good surprise when I go to visit and can outshine the younger family members for once! ... show more

  • Too much space on deciding which pad to buy.
I expected more concrete help in using the iPad. Instead, much space is devoted to deciding which pad to buy. Way too elementary to be of value to a new user - in my opinion. I didn't return it as I had surgery a couple of days before the deadline. It's OK - but not useful to me. Sorry I didn't look inside more carefully. ... show more

  • Now to get dad to READ it !!
I got this for my 81 year old dad (who recently got an iPad- the first computer type thing to be under his roof)…. the IDEA was that he'd read it and be able to figure out more on his iPad. SO, he brings the book over to me to check out. I have a laptop- and am disabled, so having a mobile tablet isn't a necessity. I've never seen an iPad (which he didn't bring over to my place along with the book- so I have no idea how much it will help). I'm fairly good at getting through my computer (searches, purchases, info about weather, phone numbers, etc). I'm guessing I'll be able to get more options open to him when I go over to his house- where the book and iPad are in the SAME PLACE !! He has figured out how to find the weather forecast. OK- about the book ;) I like that it's larger print (I can use that- which looks like that is who will be reading the book). The 'Dummies' series are always winners with easy to understand information, as well as hitting the highlights and more detail, depending on what someone is looking for. When I'm looking for info on something new, I get the 'Dummies' books (I like the 'Idiot' books as well). Thumbs up :) ... show more

  • Helpful
I think it depends on one's level of techiness, so to speak, as to how helpful this book will be. If you really don't know what you're doing, then it will really be a godsend. But I'm pretty good at figuring things out on my own, so a lot of the stuff I had already figured out by the time the book arrived. That said, there were a couple of things it helped me with that I would never have figured out, so I'm still very glad I got it. It does guide one through the process with easy-to-read language and simple steps, so if you are a novice, then I definitely recommend this book. ... show more

  • A Headache Saver!
Format: Paperback
This is an indispensable book for any age using an iPad. I ordered it prior to buying the iPad and it was a great assist - most of all suggesting getting higher than a 16GB iPad. The book is printed on better paper than most Dummies books. My highlighter does not bleed through. The illustrations are in color which is a tremendous help. I have been able to find the answers to my questions without any problems. I bought another iPad book at Costco and I find the Dummies book gives me much clearer explanations and answers. I highly recommend it. Also, quite unbelievably, I ordered it on Friday of a 3-day weekend via regular mail and it arrived Tuesday morning! ... show more

  • It has the answers--I think
Format: Paperback
It will take a good amount of time to know just how valuable this dummy book will be. We fomd these editions to be excellent tools for learning. So far we have found the answers to our questions, and this includes some we didn't even ask. Since we don't live near an Apple store, we will continue to use this manual regularly and hope to become more proficient with our IPad. We recommend it, and don't let the "senior" scare you off.It doesn't go into the very technical aspects, but it is a great companion for using iPad on a regular basis. ... show more
