  • Does what it is suppose to
Style: English
I DO highly recommend this item, but with caveats, know that there will be a delay with USB over the older PS/2 Mouse/Keyboard iogear which would toggle instantly. Pros: --Does what it is suppose to --pulls power from the USB cables plugged into the machines(so no need for additional power) --double tap of Scroll Lock to toggle --Able to use USB Hub with this, so you can toggle many usb devices at once --Do not need to use VGA video toggling if working with laptop or working on a pc/server you don't need a monitor attached to. --I only used the USB toggle portion of this device, and that ability is great to have(Have old PS/2 version and used it fully for keyboard/video/mouse(where the name KVM comes from) toggle, and it is great for that, but the ability to be able to choose what you want to have connected and toggled is really adaptable and useful for 'odd' configurations you might need to fit into your setup.) Cons: --My Logitech K350 wireless Keyboard doesn't have a physical 'Scroll lock' key and made me need a 2nd old 104-style usb keyboard plugged in just for allowing toggle. (I found that it DOES have the key, but I don't have the KVM setup right now, nor have time to play with it to test it (FN+Pause/break, for those who are curious...), more on this below in Add. Thoughts) Other thoughts: I had the old IOGear mouse/keyboard version of this and have used it for years, and it is great I only bought this USB version for when my laptop keyboard died, and I was waiting for a cheap replacement to get sent from China (worked out well for me) A KVM like this is really nice to have just 'laying around' for when you need to work on a second computer, which is why I bought it. Even having to use the 2nd keyboard just sitting on the far side of my desk to toggle PC i was controlling, it was a god-send for when I needed a KVM like this, to allow me to use my keyboard on my laptop and my desktop at the same time. (the delay of switching to windows was ~10 seconds for me, but Linux recognized it instantly it and used it smoothly.) I was under a lot of time/pressure constraints when I need this, so I didn't have time to 'fix' things that weren't 100% perfect, but I bet my issues were because of the VERY convoluted setup I needed (wireless keyboard/mouse, USB mass storage, USB HUB with both of those plugged into it, and then audio no used at all from KVM,) (The semester ending, and deadlines for projects made this the very best solution I could hope for when I needed it.) I used this for input toggle only, not output (laptop had working monitor) And VGA really isn't that useful on a modern PC/monitor, BUT, its a great legacy input, so I plan on setting this up as an alternate input for my PC when I need to help someone with their PC. Without even looking I know there are DVI KVMs, and probably HDMI/USB3/DisplayPort ones coming or out already, and those might better fit your need. And those solutions might fit your need better. But this device fit perfectly for what I needed, and might fit your needs. If you ONLY need USB toggle, and NEVER need audio or video, then a USB push toggle device can be had for ~10$ and is nice to have also. (Using both together to allow you to toggle USB mass storage separately from the keyboard/mouse (and if you want audio/video) is what I ended up using and it saved me hours and hours of plugging in and unplugging cables into/out of laptop/PC, and that alone was worth 2x the price I paid for this the USB switch combined) </Rambling response to try and help explain all the possible Point of Views that this needs to be approached from.> ... show more

  • Why VGA? Because it's superior to HDMI and DVI for this use case
Style: English/French/Spanish
This is the best KVM on the market in my opinion... I used it years ago but replaced it with a digital one a while back and very much regretted it. Pros 1) hotkey actually exists (unlike most KVMs on the market) 2) hotkey is ultra easy (unlike others which say, require hotkey plus a number) 3) hotkey is very fast/responsive 4) VGA means Windows will not lose its mind and re-arrange your screens (it does not know that you've switched, so it doesn't do annoying things). Cons 1) It's analog so resolution is limited... I'm using 1080p and it's great, but you should not expect 4K to work well. I made the mistake of using a cheap VGA cable on the output of this device. It had ghosting (blurriness) which was entirely solved by using a better VGA cable with a ferrite bead. ... show more

  • Good Value... Works with Logitech Wireless Keyboard PC & Mac
Style: English
This KVM is quit simple and very small device without external button to switch between two computers and you need to use the keyboard by press & release "Scroll Lock" key twice. Cables provided are long enough but your can't change them in case of demage because they are sealed with the KVM switch. I give this KVM 4 out of 5 because of delay when I switch to Windows but this problem my exist only if you use Wireless Keyboard & mouse set. It is a very good vlaue and I save $20 with Amazon instead of buying from Bestbuy or Microcenter Plus fast shipping offer "one day". Thank you Amazon. After one hour palying with the KVM switch trying to figure out how function it with wireless keyboard and two different Operating systems. Finally, I make it and I would like to sure my expirence with other customers who couldn't be able to make it. :My setup: - Logitech Wireless Combo Mk520 With Keyboard and Laser Mouse (920-002553) -Laptop Windows Vista 32Bit SP2 -MacBook Pro 13, Mac OS X 10.6.8 First of all: make sure you get latest updates for both operating systems. Step1: install the wireless keyboard & mouse on the PC/laptop and make sure it is working fine. Don't use the KVM switch yet. Step2: plug the keyboard & mouse USB wireless stick into the KVM switch keyboard USB port not the other USB port on the KVM. connect the KVM to your external monitor and your external speaker to the KVM. Step3: Connect the KVM VGA & USB & Audio cables to your laptop. Test your keyboard & mouse and make sure they are working without problem. Label the VGA, USB, and audio cable that connected to your PC/laptop, so you don't use them with your Mac. Step4: Repeat the step 1 & 2 & 3 but with your Mac and make sure you remove the connection between KVM & your PC/laptop before do that. Note: if your keyboard & mouse don't support Mac, they might still work and you might get a wizard on your Mac asking you to identify your keyboard and choose the layout which it is usually English 101. Note: to avoid any conflict, all the time use the same USB ports in laptop/PC/Mac which while connect it to the KVM switch. Step5: Unplug both PC/Laptop and Mac. Start plug first cables set to your Laptop/PC and after that connect another cables set to your Mac. To switch between to machines press and release "Scroll Lock" twice on your keyboard. Note: I faced some kind of delay when I switch on the laptop/PC for around 8 seconds but when I switch to Mac it is up immediately. Please, rate this review it is helpful for your. ... show more
