  • Highly impressive journal that will make an impact on those able to commit the time and energy
Intelligent Change's Life Designer Journal is a small journal that packs a surprising punch. Quality is exceptional. The pages have the same feel and relative thickness as a paperback novel, with the same semi-see-through property. They handle pen and pencil without issue and accept colors, both in ink and pencil format, without bleeding or shedding fibers. Erasing pencil marks, even aggressively, doesn't cause any issues either, nor do I see ghosting where I corrected a mistake. The hardcover feels durable and looks beautiful. It has a linen look and feel and is quite durable. It handles a damp cloth for dabbing away small stains, but I suspect it will show larger stains easily, so I recommend being careful with the book or foregoing the need to keep it pristine, as the light tan color of the cover is likely to show stains easily. A ribbon book mark is attached well to the spine. It's long enough to be effective but isn't so long that it gets tugged out of place by other items in my bag, and it lays flat between the pages without having to hold it in place while I close the cover. Content is where this journal truly shines, though. At only 117 pages (not including a 4-page note section in the back) with many of them designed more workbook space than verbiage, I wasn't expecting much, but the authors do a great job of conveying their advice and triggering contemplation with few words. That makes the journal easier to follow than more dense options I've tried in the past. The book is also laid out well with the bulk of learning accomplished within Five "Pillars" (Who You Are, Your Mindset, Core Values, Your Ideal Day, and Life Vision). Progress through the book is logical and building, making it easy to follow though that shouldn't be mistaken for easy to finish. Most of the sections so far have required setting the journal aside and thinking about my answers before I do any writing. That's what I want, though. It's not easy to change thought patterns and habits. What all this means, though, is that this journal isn't going to be ideal for someone who can't or doesn't want to devote a lot of time and energy to it. I certainly couldn't have attempted it when my kids were younger and my business was thriving. But at this point in my life, I'm in a rut and trying to reinvent who I am after my previous plans and identity got derailed by COVID. There's little I dislike about this book. The price, of course, is hard to swallow (currently $37), but I do feel the content is worth it if you're committed to it. The lines for writing are also limiting, but I suspect that's intentional since I find I have to think about a question more extensively to get to the core of my answer so it fits. The core is what I need to focus on, though, since that's what my goal should be designed around rather than the actions that revolve around that goal. For those who do better by writing down free-flowing thoughts, those spaces might induce panic, but that can be cured by using a separate notebook for brainstorming then transferring final thoughts to the journal. Ultimately, the end goal of the journal seems to be two-fold: 1) jump-starting a life change, and 2) creating a time capsule that you can look back on in ten years by re-reading the journal and realizing how much you've changed. While I love the re-reading idea, it'll be a miracle if I can locate the journal a decade from now. Maybe I'll scan it when I'm finished, but even if I don't do that last step, the initial change is what matters, and I'm certain this book will help me take a big step in that direction. ... show more

  • Exceptional quality & craftmanship
This journal is a fantastic tool for anyone looking to enhance their self-reflection and goal-setting journey! The design is absolutely stunning – it's beautifully crafted and feels incredibly high-quality, with a lovely natural cotton hardcover. I was immediately impressed by the thoughtful layout and the way it encourages introspection. I would give this product a solid 4 stars! While I love the overall aesthetic and the potential of the journal, I do wish there was a bit more content included for the size. It felt a little sparse in terms of prompts or exercises, especially considering the 10-year vision aspect. However, this is a minor quip, as the blank pages allow for complete customization and creativity. Despite this small detail, I would still highly recommend this journal! It's a wonderful purchase for anyone who wants to take control of their life, set some meaningful goals and become more mindful. The quality and design make it a worthwhile investment, and with a little imagination, it can become your ultimate personal growth companion. ... show more

  • Beautiful - But Don’t Start Until You Have the Time & Energy!
This gorgeous journal doesn’t feel as much of a planner feels less like a planner and more like an expensive session with a very calm, very organized life coach. I’ve used a lot of planners and have attempted several guided journals over the years. I have ADHD and most of my guided journals wind up as daily or monthly to-do lists that make me feel and seem productive without having to actually do any major work. For some reason, this journal is totally different. It’s built around a “design thinking” framework, which feels like someone is handing me a pen and saying, “Alright, let’s map your entire existence.” What I appreciate most is how it forces me to zoom out and focus on long term goals. Instead of “What do I need to do this week?” , this journal asks who you are, what you value, what your ideal day looks like, and where you want to be in ten years. The five pillars (Identity, Mindset, Core Values, Ideal Day, Life Vision) sound simple, but the prompts go deep fast. I would definitely use a pencil instead of your favorite pen because you may change your mind a few times? It’s also beautifully made without being obnoxious about it. The natural cotton cover has that minimalist feel, and the recycled paper is thick enough that your pen doesn’t ghost through like a bad decision. I wouldn’t call this an everyday journal. It’s more like a focused reset button. Something you sit down with intentionally when you’re in a transition, rethinking your career, or just tired of living on autopilot. It doesn’t tell you what life to design, but it absolutely hands you the blueprint paper. If you’re ready to get honest about where you are and where you’re going, this journal is less “cute stationery” and more “personal strategy session in book form.” And honestly… that’s probably why it works! I recommend writing in it when you are ready for some long introspective writing and have the time to do so. ... show more
