  • Great music player!
A amazing Apple iPod alternative and mp3 player! It works very well and sounds great. The software is easy to navigate and works well, all of our music (over 6000 songs in mp3 format) were transferred and showed up ready to play no problem. USB c charging and transfer is so very nice. It crashes if you scroll too fast through the albums category, but this can be fixed by scrolling slow through it. The clickwheel is also pretty good to use. Would very much recommend this player for anyone searching for a solid mp3 player, as well as a modern alternative to a iPod classic. It is also highly customizable, allowing you to set custom images as the background which is very cool! ... show more

  • One of the better devices that support Rockbox.
Work surprisingly well relatively easy to install Rockbox on. The included headphones leave something to be desired. Battery life is pretty decent. Definitely do yourself a favor and open it up and replace the micro SD card as the stock card is a no name.

  • Basically the only modern iPod equivalent out there - but it's cheap.
Color: Black Capacity: 128GB
Probably should be a 3-star, but it gets an extra one for being really the closest thing out there to an actual iPod these days. Seems compatible with everything I've thrown at it, even my high sample rate lossless files that I couldn't get to work on an actual iPod (tested up to 96khz/32-bit float). The UI is the big selling point here - with the right theme it's basically just an updated iPod - and basically nobody else makes one this close to the original. No touch screen, no ads or apps - just me and my music the way it should be. If you don't like the original firmware, innioasis has a dedicated tool for replacing it with Rockbox you can get off their website - literally as easy as pressing a button. Only thing is I don't think the rockbox utility supports this device, so you'll have to install themes manually. Battery life is sufficient to make it through an entire workday and still have about 20% left over for the commute home, and I've personally never experienced a drop in Bluetooth connectivity. With a good pair of wired headphones this gets you a solid 60% of the way back to the experience of running an iPod as your daily driver, but without having to go through iTunes to transfer your music over. I encoded my metadata and album artwork via Strawberry on Linux, it all works except for track order, so unfortunately you have to add numbers to the front of song names if you want them displayed in the order they appear on albums, but that's not a terrible sacrifice to make. Build quality is my big sticking point. I know, at this price point you can't really expect much, but honestly it's REALLY cheap. The buttons are super clacky, the click wheel is hard to control, and the only setting for vibration and sound feedback from it that you can run with the native software is way too high. There's also no dedicated lock switch, instead you hold down the middle button until the screen goes black - good in concept, but if you carry it in your pocket it will get pressed, and you cant disable the speaker so expect it to just randomly blast music in your pocket. The DAC seems about on-par with a generic laptop headphone output, so you probably won't be able to hear a difference when listening to lossless audio vs basic mp3s, even with great headphones. To the manufacturer - this concept is exactly what I want, and it's great for what it is, but seriously consider making a premium version with specs closer to that of an actual iPod (and please include a lock switch). I'd happily pay 3-4x this price for something like that if you get it right. Overall verdict: not bad for what it is, but it could be better and I seriously hope they make a nicer version someday. ... show more

  • Stellar.
Color: Black Capacity: 128GB
The product is great, but the firmware is lacking. The player itself is actually well made, the plastics feel smooth and light but not flimsy. The click wheel is actually nice to use, and works well with the default UI. This player also has a semi-official rockbox build available, and I recommend that over the default UI. Thankfully you can have both on it. Also the 128gb SD card on the inside of the device died on the first day (Which from what I read is pretty common as they have a unbranded card.) The battery life is actually quite nice. Lasted about 3 days with normal usage. (About 2 to 4 hours over the course of the day, on and off.) Please release a better firmware update utility. ... show more

  • great even with the flaws
i honestly really like it. I did use rockbox on it but even just the color and form factor, and the fact that the scroll wheel actually works like an ipod are just great. I owned an ipod back when it was out and while the build is a bit lighter it is very much satisfactory. i only use it with my bluetooth earphones and i havent noticed any problems with it or any crazy increase in battery drain. the radio does need wired earphones to work though, and some are included. 2 cons: -the screen is very easy to scratch. I made a little case out of cheap acrylic yarn and after burning the fuzz off, whatever imperceptible-to-touch burned ends were left scratched the screen. -there is no way to lock the play button when the screen is off. several times i throw it in my bag and listen to something on my phone instead, and after a while i realize it got pressed and started playing in my bag. i even tried to just turn it off but the power on is just long pressing the middle button so it gets turned on, and then plays on its own anyway… i am seriously considering finding an ipod case with a cover and trying my luck with the fit. ... show more

  • Waste-Of-MONEY
I bought this device since it popped up while I was looking for an old school IPOD. I watched a video about it on Youtube and it presented itself as pretty much the same thing. Not at all. It's more of a USB chip that you can plug head phones into 1)When you goto a music genre, you can't shuffle the songs, only the songs from that one artist 2)You can't scroll to a specific part of a song. It functions more like a CD player to where you can only fast forward by holding the button down 3) Volume at Max was not as loud as my IPOD 4)After putting over 500 songs in a folder, I plugged it back into the Laptop and suddenly the songs all dissapeared. 5)Unlike an IPOD, i can't just skip to the next song while it's in my pocket. You have to keep taking it back out and cutting the screen on. Honestly this is a another example of trying to take the cheaper way out and pay less. Now I will just spend the money and buy a regular IPOD like I should have done in the beginning. This device should be no more than 15 bucks. ... show more
