  • Great for beginners
Lens Color: Turquoise/Blue
This is my first SUP. As in - I have never ridden on before this and it's the first one I've owned. I do own a kayak though, so I've always wanted to try this out. Setup: The setup with this SUP is rather simple. Lay it out flat, connect the pump with a half-twist, and fill it with air. The hand pump takes about 3-5 minutes to fill the board to 12 PSI. That's a lot of pumps, so you may need to take a break if you've got shorter arms or you just get tired since it's a good workout. Once filled to 12psi you can flip the board over and remove the protective foam on the outer fins and attach the main fin in the center. The removable center fin has a small locking piece that looks simple, but works perfectly. The paddle comes in three sections. Two of them clip together with a push clip and the top section slides into the center section and is adjustable for your height. The paddle is pretty basic, but in my outings so far it's done just fine. Construction: Once inflated, the SUP is very firm. I choose to inflate it at home and toss it on my roof rack before heading out so that I can use my air compressor for the majority of the inflation. It travels just fine and I've had it up to 65mph with no issues. The color scheme is really nice with a few shades of blue that look great together. Several people mentioned that they liked it. The standing section of the board has a good texture and I never found it slippery or harsh on my bare feet. The ankle strap has enough slack to help you forget you're wearing it after a little while. The included sippered "cooler" section is nice, but not perfect. By it's design, it will only open a small slit, so you'll not be loading more than one water bottle at a time. I was able to store my flip flops and a large metal water bottle without issue though. If it had a "T" shaped opening you could use it more easily, but it would be harder to keep it dry. Speaking of dry, if you splash water onto the deck of the sup it will likely pool at the zipper. Make sure to clear that away with your hand before you unzip it if you want to keep things dry. Operation: As I said, this was my first time on a SUP. I'm lucky that I have a kayak launch with a handle bar. I was able to load the sup in backwards (fins in the deep water) and then use the bar to help me get used to standing on it. I found the most stable position to be about 2/3rd toward the rear with my feet side by side about a foot apart. I have been able to ride the board without falling off so far (so far!) and I'm happy to say it was more stable than I expected. I've piloted it from my knees and standing. The SUP tracks fairly straight regardless of which side you paddle from so I typically do 3-4 stokes on my right and then switch to 1-2 on the left as I go. To turn sharp I found that paddling backwards on that side works best. Maybe that will be useful for new riders like me. Conclusion: I'm really happy with this board. There's an included carry bag (well made with a long zipper) with backpack straps that holds the board and pump and probably a bit more if you wanted. For the price I couldn't imagine more. Similar inflatable boards are available at my local stores but they typically go for a much higher cost, and it would be hard to beat the quality of this board. Highly Recommended for beginners. ... show more

  • Pretty good paddleboard with a design flaw
Lens Color: Black/Grey
I've been a kayaker for many years and have owned several inflatable kayaks. So when I wanted a paddleboard an inflatable one was a good place to start. Inflatable watercraft offer more flexible transportation options than hard-shelled vessels that require a truck or roof racks. They can also be stored in a smaller space in the off season. This paddleboard comes with everything you need to hit the water except a PFD which may be required in some places and is a good idea in colder water especially. If you've got a PFD, you could literally pick this paddleboard up on the way to a lake or river and have everything else you need when you got there. There's the paddleboard, paddle, leash, and a pump to inflate it. I personally dislike using hand pumps for larger inflation jobs like watercraft but any reasonably priced electric air pump can make short work of the job. The board is good quality and well made. However it has a design flaw in my opinion...the front storage hatch. This looked like such a good idea when I saw the board on Amazon and I noticed it was patented by this company. It really is nice to keep the top of your paddleboard clear with some protection from water. However, when you put much of anything with weight in the hatch it hangs down into the water lower than the rest of the bottom of the board. This essentially creates a small bump that affects the tracking of the board...like an asymmetrical front rudder or something. Since I want my board tracking straight through the water, I looked for tie-outs for a dry bag so I could store my stuff on deck as usual instead of in the hatch. There were no tie-outs to be found except for the ring at the aft. If you want to actually secure anything you take with you, I can't see any other choice but to stow it in the hatch. There may be some situations like drifting on a river where nice straight tracking isn't as crucial but in most situations that little bulge right at the bow could really throw it off. I don't think I'll end up using this board because of this, but if I did I'd try using a little high-density foam or maybe an inflatable sit-pad to at least give a symmetrical shape to the bottom of the storage hatch. ... show more
