  • Excellent miner and good seller
This is my second Avalon Q miner from this vendor. Both orders have been shipped really fast, the arrival time is overextended as both shipments have arrived early, which is a good thing. THe miners have been working great hashing at around 93TH so above advertised. Great job! Happy with my purchases. The setup is super simple and you'll be up and mining in no time. ... show more

  • Quiet and undramatic, easy way to use my extra solar energy. Works w/ Home Assistant.
I have two of these, which I use to avoid curtailing solar in my house. The house is off-grid, and together they use about 50-70 kWh of overproduction that I get from my array each day. They run at an honest 93-96 Th/s, and they do this pretty quietly in my garage. The electricity is free. Let me address quiet. These are really comfortable to be around. At worst, they are like a gaming PC that is working hard. And they do pump out a lot of heat (see below). I am powering the miners on 240V, each drawing about 7-8 amps maximum. There are three settings: standard, eco and super, and during peak sun I run them at super. At night, right at sunset, they go into eco mode. More on that later. Together, in a pool, the two average 130-150 Th/s over 24h and generate about 0.00006 BTC/day. I could run them harder, but then my batteries get precariously low overnight. Setup was very easy. I was up and running in minutes using ethernet or wifi. The wifi is fine, doesn't generate errors and makes my setup a bit less messy. This was my first mining experience and it was pretty easy. The Android app is terrible. I assume the iOS one might be better. The web app is okay, local control only. For any of the controls you need to be on the same LAN to do anything. This created a huge problem for me one rainy day at work, when I watched my house batteries go dead and I could not control the miners in any fashion. The lights went out as the rain came down and I was pulling 4 kW of power at Super. Inexplicably, there is not even the simplest scheduling feature on the app. Not at all. You cannot tell it to switch modes at different times of the day. This seems like a simple thing that would save a lot of people headaches. But nope. You are on your own. But there are ways. It took me a while, and was fairly advanced, to integrate the two miners into Home Assistant, using shell commands from within HA. You can find instructions on GitHub. But once I did, I gained control over the modes, could see temperature info, hash rates, errors/timeouts, electrical consumption and efficiency, filter status etc. Before this, I found that I could do a lot from any Linux CLI on the same LAN just by knowing the IP address of the device. At least I could easily change modes, for example. Now, I have created a nice dashboard in Home Assistant and have much better control than the phone app gives me. For a while I used crontab to change modes at different times of day, but Home Assistant lets you integrate any automation you want. Weather input, solar panel current, battery SOC, time of sunset? All of that is easy to use in your automation. You can set up Home Assistant access for yourself using VPN or nabu. It goes without saying that getting rid of almost 2kW of heat per miner is a thing. Even in winter, my very well-insulated garage was hitting 40C at which point the miners briefly take a pause. Even with windows open, it was a tropical space, regardless of how cold it was outside. I ultimately had to put a mini-split in my garage to overcome this. I keep it at 25-28C in there now, and I shut off the AC when the miners are in standby, also using Home Assistant and a variety of conditions. Again, off-grid electricity is basically free, but something to think about in your cost analysis. You could heat a house with a few of these. Two miners need at least a 12,000 BTU A/C to offset their temp. I would not feel comfortable running these at 110V. At that point you are exceeding 15A for long periods of time. Instead, invest in a power distribution system with its own breaker and plug it into 30-50A 240V outlet. Much less worrisome and dramatic at 7A. I could probably support 4 of these miners on a single 50A breaker and sleep well every night, going nowhere near the max current of my breaker. Note, they are slightly more efficient at "eco", still making about 50-60 Th/s at a much lower power draw that could be plugged in anywhere. Also, I assume they are as efficient at 110-120V but am not sure. Running the miner constantly at current difficulty level (138.97T) it will take just over a year to pay for each of these. Assuming you get free electricity, and taking into account the relatively poor BTC price right now of 71K. In a year or two, the difficulty level may have risen to a point where your returns are dwindling. If you are paying for electricity, I don't know what to say. Probably don't? They do hold their value. I see used ones going for 80% of msrp. I do think that I'll wait for some next gen device to come out before buying a third or fourth Avalon Q. Some more efficient, but equally quiet device will take its place at 2x or more its speed, and these older Qs will presumably keep chugging along for a few years until they are obsolete or worthless on the secondary market. ... show more

  • Better than expected.
Arrived perfectly. Operating as described. Runs very quiet with very little heat. Happy with the product and would buy again! Did a lot of research on this unit and am happy I bought. Only regret was not buying more bs the other units I purchased.

  • Fast delivery, good quality and brand new item
Fast delivery, the item came earlier than the expected date about 3 - 6 days. Well packaged. I opened and just plugged it into my network, and it works perfectly. I'm considering to order a new one.

  • Puts out a lot of heat, vent well.
Great data processing computer. Easy set up if familiar with computers. The only drawback is this guy pumps out a tremendous amount of heat. Highly recommend a vent to out doors. Btw, I've made just under 20 bucks after pool fees and electric.
