We drove for seven days, the cooler was plugged into a 12 volt receptacle in the car, when we stopped we took the cooler in our hotel room. Added the plug adapter and plugged it into a wall receptacle in the hotel. It works great and I’ll never leave home without it again! It’s the best $165 I’ve ever spent!! I purchased the 28 qt. cooler a couple months ago to use on a 4k mile plus driving trip. It worked great. We used it in a couple of motel rooms too using a converter. The converter quit working and it still kept the food cold overnight, but we did have several frozen water bottles on the bottom. We did have an issue with the 12v cord, probably our fault with plugging and unplugging it and shoving the cooler around in the back area of our vehicle. We were able to get it to work good enough to last the entire trip. When we got home, I went to their website to order a new cord. Couldn't find it listed so I emailed customer service to try to get a part number and order one. They got back to me very quickly and ended up sending me a free one that I received on a coupe days. I didn't ask for or expect it. I was happy about getting the cord for free, but I was more impressed that they got back to me me so quickly. Not all companies seem to be doing that these days. One note, We have 2 non igloo brand converters and with one of them, the cooler just clicks on and off and won't work. So if you are going that route be sure to check to make sure the one you have or are buying will work with it. ... show more

I bought two of these coolers. One in 2015 and one in 2016. They work very well. They cool ok. Good enough for cokes or fruit juice. But they do take maintenance. Use compressed air and blow out the dust and lint that accumulates in the exterior fan and heat sink area. Keep the moisture as low as possible inside the cooler or ice may form and block air flow on the interior heat sink. The information displays an ac power supply of 5 amps. Don't waste you time or money. I have killed three 10 amp 12 volt power supplies in three years. Now i use at least 15 amp 12 volt power supply. I have a twenty amp power supply that is 5 years old that is still working very well. I have replaced one Cooler Peltier before i realized it was a bad power supply that still showed it produced 12 volts but no amps under a load. In an automobile they work ok. They will kill your battery fairly quick if the car is not running. They won't fight the summer heat here in the south while in a closed car. I can recommend these coolers for general cooling of drinks. P.S. I use these coolers 24/7/365 ... show more

    • How can such a bad product get so many good reviews?

Jut opening the box was such a disappointment. By the sound, it appeared that the top and sides had no insulation except (no cost) air space. The the cooling test: The inside of the unit was 74 degrees before operation. After the first 30 minutes, it got down to 73 degrees. Another 30 minutes brought to 61 degrees and another 30 to 54 degrees. This was done indoors in an air conditioned room. And to do that, we had to separately purchase a 120VAC to 12VDC converter. (We couldn't leave our newly purchased hybrid running with the key fob in it, and therefore unlocked, in the parking lot.) Anyway, there were several reasons we quit the test. One of the exterior air vents was blowing out cold air. (Maybe it thought it was an air conditioner?) Seemed like that was a bad thing to do because the cold belonged inside. The entire top and sides were cold to the touch, so the empty air was useless insulation. By the way, when we raised the cover it just fell down. The (somewhat cheesy) plastic strap was too short for the cover to lean back. Just picture using one hand to hold it open, another hand to shift some items around, and your third hand to grab what you wanted. No third hand? Maybe you could use your foot to hold it open. Needless to say, we are very happy with the Amazon return policy. Maybe the cooler can find a home where people are more tolerant than we are. Or maybe they live in the arctic. It probably would work fine there. Note: We received the refund from Amazon. It was about $30 less than we paid. The products was returned in an unused condition, so we should have received a full refund. I guess we had to pay for doing a test and review of the product. Beware the seller... ... show more

We’ve taken this on two road trips in the last 6 weeks and a total of 8 days on the road. We figured we had nothing to lose if it didn’t work as we could get a refund due to Amazon’s good refund policy. We liked this well made Igloo much better than expected. First of all, it came quickly…a big reason that we chose this cooler as we hadn’t planned well. We owned a Coleman years ago and the cord was so short we had to keep the cooler in the back of the SUV right next to the outlet. . We ordered a cord for this one expecting the same issue, BUT we were pleasantly surprised as the cord that came with it was long enough to set this in our second seat and simply plug into cigarette lighter. Having the convenience of the cooler in the second seat was wonderful! The unit is very quiet so we could only hear it when we were in idle. It holds more than we expected, too. We used a tall glass container for homemade soup…plus quart of milk and lunch fixings for up to three days and had plenty of room. We did not take it in with us at the hotel much because it was cold outside most of the trip, but when we were in the southern states, we wheeled it into the hotel room. The wheels were very substantial and the unit worked like a champ. I would highly recommend it to anyone who likes to travel with their own food. ... show more
