    • High Quality, great for live sound

I Use IEM's (in ear monitors) for live performances on stage (Acoustic Guitar, Bass, Percussion and Vocals), as well as Live Sound Engineering, therefore I need robust and effective monitors that do not color the sound (meaning that the monitors to not accentuate the lows, mids or high sounds so that what I hear is as close to the original as possible for a good mix). These IEM's are possibly the best that I have heard for the price! Pros: very flat frequency response- they do not color the sound. For many newbies, they are used to headphones that are "bassy"- they give too much bass, more than was in the original music, so when they hear these, they sound different, but that is what makes them so great. They allow you to hear what you are really playing, or what the band is playing, so you know how to adjust your sound. This is especially important if you are recording or streaming live- these IEM's will let you know EXACTLY what is going out live or being recorded. So if you have a youtube vlog, if you record your own music, or if you perform on stage or behind the mixer, the flat frequency response is great! Frequency range- these IEM's get pretty low in frequency, and pretty high. I was surprised to hear the lowest harmonics of my bass while playing with these in. And they do not trail off as you get higher in frequency. weight- these are not too heavy in the ears, making them more comfortable than some of the "molded" or "fitted" IEM's out there, especially on long practices or sets. Cons: the earpieces, or tips- I have never found a set of headphones or IEM's that came with comfortable stock tips, so I do not remove stars for this. The plastic tips are awful and scratchy, and drive me nuts immediately. But even my BOSE IEM's were pretty uncomfortable, so it may be just me. Also, the tips do not seal in my ears well, letting the lower frequencies escape rather than resonate. I always purchase a set of memory foam tips that seal well with my ears (just make sure you buy the right size for your ears). This seals the ear canal, giving you ear protection for live sound events where volume levels are a concern, and producing great bass. The Cord- where the cord comes out of the IEM, there is a length that can be molded, but I found that the exit point of the cord from the IEM was angled back too far to fit my ear perfectly, but that is one of the trade offs of a non-molded IEM. I do not remove stars because it is just my big head, not really a design issue. The cord placement does not affect the IEM, or how comfortable they are, as I just bent the mold-able piece up and around my ear. They are good, just not perfect for my big head. Also, the cord does not have a sliding clamp that draws the ear leads together. On most IEM's, and headphones for that matter, there is a small clam or tube that the leads go through, and once on, you can slide it up and tighten up the leads around your head. If you put the leads under your shirt while you play on stage, this is important as when you move your head, the leads don't pull on your ears. I dealt with this by simply tying a knot in the place where the clip would be, and they were perfect. I do not deduct any stars for this because these are not specifically for hidden IEM's, and therefore not a design issue. In addition, a simple knot, without any other hardware or purchases was able to fix my issues. No Case- IEM's, especially with foam tips, can be easily damaged when put in your gear bag or case. I have a few cased lying around, and was able to appropriate one for these. If you are not careful, your tips will get torn up and destroyed in your gear bag, or the cable leads will get cut or broken. I recommend that everyone get a case for these with the foam tips, and make sure that it is larger than you think that you need so that they have some room to not be crushed, and a pocked is nice to store extra clips. ACCESSORIES: there is a silver cord available here on Amazon that feels much nicer, more flexible, and looks better. I recommend these, along with a case and foam ear tips. In the end, these are the perfect IEM's for Live Sound Reinforcement, Musicians that are both on stage and in the studio, and people who want to hear the music as it was originally produced. If you want added bass, or lower mid range response (much like music headphones are), then these are not for you, nor were these meant to be. I have compared these to other IEM's that cost $50, $150, and $1200. I use these more than the rest, even the very expensive molded IEM's, as they are lighter, sound just as good, and fit well! + Fuller sound than cheaper models + Deep/Rich bass (not muddy) + Modular Design / Detachable cord + Comfort (with upgraded foam tips) + Price (Especially compared to competing brands) - Included tips didn't work well for me, YMMV - Cord tends to get tangled - Cord noise if you move it around too much - Slightly less noise isolation than my ER4-XRs (which cost 5x as much) I'm a bit of an audio geek & very particular about my headphones. I tried out the $20 2-driver version of these first based on the recommendation of an audio engineer. Those were...okay...but he told me that he'd heard good things about this model being significantly better so I gave them a try. It's a night & day difference. I'd never even heard of this brand before. I'm not really a brand-snob - if I find something that performs well and lasts then that's what I'm going with - actual experience means more to me than the name printed on it - at least for an item like this. Yes these run you more than double the cost of the 2 driver model but it's *well worth it*. The bass is much richer & fuller and doesn't sound muddy at all. The earpieces look nice (I like the transparent blue plastic) and the rubberized cord seems less fragile than others I've used. This is the first pair I've owned that actually has the shaped "ear-mold" type construction. It's definitely a different feel, and it took me a while to figure out how to arrange the cord/drivers to fit properly in my ears. Tips for newbies doing that: 1 - Look at each earpiece with the driver opening facing you 2 - Find the "L" or "R" printed on the plastic (see photo) 3 - Fit the R into your right ear - you'll easily figure out the correct placement - the port with openings for the cord connections will be facing forward 4 - Remove the earpiece from your ear and attach the right side cord (if your cord has a microphone, this is the side that goes to the right) - attaches with 2 prongs in the cord that fit into 2 holes in the driver - direction isn't important other than for getting the cord to go the right way 5 - You'll know you've got the cord attached properly when you can place the earpiece in your ear with the thick "bendy" part of the cord connected so that it goes up & over the back of your ear 6 - Repeat the same process with the left side ***ESSENTIAL UPGRADE*** Do yourself a favor and look up a company named "Comply" and buy some of their foam tips (model/part number is TX-500). These work far better for me than the included rubber tips - several sizes of which are included). I also got a cord with a microphone in it - nice to have when using with my phone and it also makes it easier to tell left from right without fiddling too much. The cord with the mic also has a control button built in. (for play/pause on phones, etc) Overall I'm very happy with these and I'd recommend them to anyone who wants a good, durable pair of earphones or IEMs. I can be rough on my earphones and usually the cord is what gives out first. If you have a cord molded to the earphones that means you've got to get new earphones. In this case, though, you can just swap out the cord and you're good to go. I've had the cord fail on my etymotic ER4-XRs and though it's modular as well, the cord for those alone cost almost as much as these. As is typical with in-ears you will get some cord noise if you're moving around since the vibrations will transfer to the earpieces.
