  • Very interactive
My grandson has a hard time timing his shoes. All he has worn before was with velcro or slip on. I love this book, even though he gets frustrated. Very interactive.

  • Cute concept but not as helpful
I thought this book would be great to teach my 5 year old how to tie his shoes but it might be easier to just do it without the help of the book. The laces weren’t long enough to his normal shoe laces.

  • It Works!!!! It Works!!!!! (unlike potty training books, lol)
I bought this book out of desperation, lol. I tried teaching my 5-yr-old son to tie his laces and he had no interest or patience. Just doing the first step of shoe-tying is HARD for littles. Whenever I first showed him the book, he still didn't care. But then I told him that we were going to learn one step Per WEEK, so all he had to do was one step for a week. And I combined it with a short morning homework time when he reads his school reading book to me as I make his breakfast. So, it was like an assignment. So, the first day, we read the book up to the first step and we tried the first step. It was still hard, but having the book to look at (and tie the shoe in) made him stick with it a bit longer. And he got it! And then I told him that was it for the day. The next day, we started with the first step and he got it right away. And he WANTED to do the next step. At that point I showed him that there are two ways to tie your shoes by showing him the book pages and just talking. He picked one he wanted to try and voila - he tied the shoe by himself that day. We were both so proud and it gave him a huge confidence boost - not just in tying shoes but in accomplishing something difficult. Now if only we had some shoes for him with laces... ;) Needless to say, I highly recommend this book! ... show more

  • Impressive
After a few months of trying to teach my 5-year old how to tie his shoe, to no avail, I decided to purchase this book. Not wanting to overwhelm him, we only practiced about three times the night the book arrived. The next day, my son asked if he could practice on the way to school. Low and behold, within 10 minutes I hear, "Mommie, I did it!!!" I turned around to see a perfectly tied bow! I was impressed with how fast my son actually learned with this book (again, my mom, sister and I attempted to teach him for months) and was definitely shocked my son was enthused about practicing with it! He continued to practice for a few days and stopped. I thought he might forget what he learned and need a refresher. Nope. We're about a month in and he's still excited about tying his own shoes and trying to teach his friends at daycare. I love how the book is fun, easily held by little hands and provides different teaching techniques to teach children how to tie their shoes. I definitely recommend this book!!! ... show more

  • WE FINALLY LEARNED TO TIE OUR SHOES!!!
My ten year old nephew has severe ADHD, and a slight learning disability, and has struggled for YEARS to learn how to tie his shoes. We've tried showing him, tried telling him, tried helping him learn over and over and over again, and all that had resulted was tears and crying in frustration, and that was just from me! He'd get discouraged and just give up. After nearly giving up and having tried everything, I purchased this book for him. And the first time he opened the book and practiced, he was able to finally tie his shoes on his own! Now there was crying and tears of joy. My little man has never been more proud, and we couldn't be prouder of him, in his life. It was such a joy to just watch that "click" when he finally understood how to get the loops to work so his laces would stay put. He no longer has to look for an adult to help him get his shoes on. It's no longer "Can you tie my shoes?" and instead it's "Look! I tied my shoes!" We plan on giving the book to his little brother when it time to teach him how to tie his shoes. ... show more
