Highly recommend this book for children of all ages. A MUST HAVE in our family and passed down for 3 generations, hopefully more. This is a book I had as a child, read to my children and now recently bought for my grandchild. It is a nice short story of a bear family getting ready for the Christmas holiday with scent stickers on some pages of smells typically associated with Christmas. It is well known that the more senses engaged in a memory, the more vivid the memory. Thus this book with the scents provide both a pleasant and familiar story that becomes nostalgic and well remembered. I have given this book to many children nieces, nephews and young friends of the family when they had children. The stickers on the 40+ year old book are worn out (sometimes i think i can faintly still smell them, though that may be just from memory or wishful thinking). Honestly I dont expect the scent to last to last 40+years, hence bought new ones for my youngest child-when Amazon was still new, and again recently [was super relieved it was still in print!]. I may contact the publishers though and see if i can get new scent stickers to replace them... Either way, HIGHLY recommend the Sweet Smell of Christmas!

Favorite Christmas book

I had a copy of this book as a child and still have it after all these years. However, the scents all smell like "book" now and despite my best efforts and memories of the smells, they were beginning to fade. All my kids love the book as well and enjoy scratching the stickers for tiny whiffs of the lingering scents. And then I found a new copy! I was so excited that it was still in print, and that the price was so low. I ordered a new copy for my kids to enjoy the actual scents with the story.The scents are apple pie, pine tree, gingerbread, peppermint, cocoa, and orange. All of them smell as good as I remember and they do make the book special. The story is also really cute and captures the excitement of getting ready for Christmas. The illustrations are pretty and the book has nice hard cover. The only difference I noticed was that the new copy has some glitter on the cover. My girls like this addition, but I don't really care either way. I love having the new copy of this, but I hung on to the old one for sentimental reasons. The "book" smell is another smell I associated with Christmas because of how much of a tradition this book became.

The cutest book!

I love this book and remember having it as a child. The scents are so fun and it easily became a childhood nostalgic book for me. I love the illustrations and the story of the bears experiencing Christmas through smell. My family has had our copy for over 20 years and some of the scents still smell! The scents don't last forever but they'll last a while.

Just as good as original

I have the 1970s version from when I was a kid that the stickers had fallen off of that I’ve been reading to my kids all these years. I decided to buy a new copy this year. There’s plenty of bad reviews. IDK why. This version is fine. The stickers smelled enough for my kids. There’s a few minor format changes but they didn’t change a word of the text- Trust Me, I’ve read it hundreds of times and I went through it. Father Bear got to keep his pipe and ax- I was worried they were gonna edit that out for the PC crowd. I’m glad to have this new version. My kids were thrilled that we’re retiring the old battered copy finally. If you’re new to this story, try it. It’s a cute, classic, family story that I’ve literally read every year of my life and we read it for over a month before Christmas. My kids love it too. It’s the simple story of waking up the Day before Christmas being excited and getting ready for the big day. Lots of simple traditions.

A sweet Christmas story! Beautiful y illustrated. Loved this book as a child. Thought the scents would be more distinct and improved. Still a lovely book though.

Sweet!

An adorable and fun book with scratch and sniff spots on every other page. Some of the scents are a bit vague but the story is cute and interesting enough on its own to make up for it.

Our daughters loved it... Too much

Oh this book... It was a major source of heartache for our kids. I purchased this for a school book exchange between preschool class mates. My husband made the mistake of letting our 3 and 5 year old daughters read it before I wrapped it. They were FURIOUS when they found out that they couldn't keep it. I had to buy another one to keep the peace in the house. The good news is that you can't tell where the scent circles have been scratched, so looks brand new even after a few uses. I was worried it would look like we were giving a used book, but thankfully it did not.
