I fancy myself a bit of a pool float connoisseur at this point. I live in a climate that we have 12 months of pool weather and I have a very active 8 and 11 year old that use the pool almost daily. Our floats get very heavy usage with anywhere from my two kids to upwards of 10 kids at a time. We had a giant round raft for several years that we loved that held up great that they no longer manufacture. We have tried a number of different rafts to replace the first one with terrible results and many amazon returns after instant deflating, etc....Then I saw the Ice Cube and decided to try it. I have waited several weeks to write my review to see watch the durability. The fun factor was off the charts from the first usage. My children are strong swimmers which I think makes a difference. This is definitely a work out. It is constantly moving and turning and the kids love to dive through from top to bottom and climb back in and use it like a hamster wheel. They fight to pull each other out of it. They put my husband in and laugh and laugh as they try and oust him from the cube, they have yet to get him out. This is the best family fun money can buy. We have had the cube for about three weeks now and so far so good. It has not lost any air and we have kids and adults alike bouncing off of the sides, dragging it on the pool deck (even with me telling them not to) and living on this through spring break. In fact as I am writing this I realize when I finish I will log on and order a couple more for future use. LOVE IT. I will say to the other comments it does take quite a while to inflate in comparison to some other rafts even with an electric pump. All of the nozzels are the smallest size and so they don't allow for very fast air flow but since we haven't lost any air this is a one time detail.

Hole before first use

On the good side, this would be cool for kids and as shown in their photos it is big enough for a few kids. Our son is five, and I’m thinking two in the center plus another two or three around tree outside and a few in the water. On the bad side, I can’t tell you how many for sure because we got this for a start of summer party. My husband inflated it, we went about throwing away all the boxes since we had bought a bunch of new stuff, and getting all the food/drinks ready, to find this. I’d say it was a half hour after we inflated that we found it like this - so kids never got to try it. The air valve is elsewhere (where it’s still inflated) so we know it’s a leak/ tear, but haven’t found it. No one had been in the pool so must have been this way. (Second photo is a few minutes after, so you see why we couldn’t just ignore the tilt!) For the price, I’d have returned as defective, but don’t have the box. Soooo if you do buy, plan to have it in advance or test before the kids see and get disappointed, and KEEP THE BOX for a week to be sure! Hope this helps someone - and will update if I hear from the seller! Update: have never heard from seller, so reducing to 1 star. Would have expected some customer service, but none yet. Will update review if they ever make it right! But so far, no response….

Hours of fun for the kids and their parents!

We've only had it for a couple days so far, but the kids have absolutely loved it . . . and so has their dad . It took a while to blow up all 6 sides, each with it's own compartment, but there were no apparent holes or leaks. our 7 and 8 year old kids tumbled and wrestled in it for hours, both fitting comfortably inside. My kids like to rough house in it, so it does tumble a little from side to side, which makes it more fun. However, it is more stable than a typical raft if they just decide to lie in it. It seems pretty durable, but I'm only expecting it to stand up for one season, and, if it does, I will be satisfied that it is worth it's value. We have having several kids over next week, and I think close supervision will be in store and probably limiting it to two or three kids playing in it at a time to avoid any injuries from playing rough or from tumbling into the side of the pool. Also, for what it's worth, as an adult, I can dive off the diving board into the top hole and out the bottom, rubbing only lightly against the sides of the openings. Alternatively, I can dive through the side hole and land in the middle. Definitely a fun one that might become a repeat purchase.

At first I thought buying this was going to be an expensive mistake and I have been undoubtedly proven wrong. We have had so much fun with pirate Island my kids like to take a break from the pool and have a snack on the island before getting back in and playing. My son’s learned how to jump off of it and cannonball into the pool. He enjoys swimming through the hole in the middle. This toy has made our pool so much more fun and I am glad I invested in it.

Worth the investment !

This was a gift for my sons 5th birthday also perfect for his pirate pool party !! Is pretty big we have a 20 foot above ground Intex pool so their was still plenty of room if you have a smaller pool the size might be a concern for you took a while to inflate since very large recommend filing the bottom first and the top half way so it is easier to clip into the bottom after a full day of play with 15 kids the pirate island was still standing and pretty full as well would recommend the makers to make the whole in the middle a little bigger all the kids where fine in and out the float my concern goes for a kid getting stuck with floaties in the whole or a older child maybe a little chubbier to get stuck also while the kids are climbing on the island some times it leans witch is a little nerve wrecking if it is close to the edge of the pool had kids 3-13 on the float with no problems wouldn’t allow more then 3 10 years and older in at the same time and could fit about 4 or 5 little kids on it at once the ledge is also big enough for the kids to sit and stand on just like the picture seems put together very well wish the door of the pirate island/ ship was also able to clip on in some way since the string does come undone a lot and isn’t long enough to double tie also can’t really knot it because then it takes awhile to get off witch was also hard for the kids cute concept with the windows also being shields ! A little bonus of the float. Being so big is at the end of the Night all the floats fit right in the pirate ship and makes the pool a quick easy clean up !!

Disappointing Quality
I started buying the Cube 10 years ago. My kids loved it. It would last all summer, as I would patch the minor holes in the sides. At the end of summer, I cut it into pieces and disposed of it. I would buy another one the next summer. Two years ago, I noticed the quality was not the same. After the first use, there were 6 holes in it (one of which was on the seam). After a few weeks, it had so many holes that it had to be disposed. Again, I bought another Cube this summer as my kids really enjoy it. When I opened the box, there was already a patch on one side. This side never would hold air. As I was inflating another side, the seam immediately ripped upward into the chamber above. After a few times in the pool, two more seams ripped outward beyond repair. One side is almost completely ripped off. Most of the side chambers do not hold air which I suspect have seam issues. This was once a great toy, but has taken the same downhill-quality road as many other foreign made products.

Fun but could be dangerous

Gave it 2 star rating because of safety concerns. Great for kids 8 and higher and proficient swimmers. The kids love it and it appears durable, we have not had damage or ripped seams as reported in other reviews; however, we don't allow them to 'jump' on it (i could see this being a cause of bursting). CAUTION - We only use this when only a few children are in the pool and ALWAYS have an adult monitoring its use. We see a potential hazard because of the holes on all sides, the kids love to (and easily) roll/flip it and often end up having to swim out of the hole bc they end up face down. Someone could easily get stuck and no one realize it (bc as kids they are too caught up in the fun and laughing and trying to get in). This 'raft' is HEAVY and as it flips a small child (outside of the cube but next to it) could get pushed under the corner seams. We take POOL SAFETY and Drowning very seriously in our family. For this matter, once the cube gets ruined, we will not be ordering another one.

A close drowning

I wanted to give this "No Stars" because my grandson almost drowned, but stars were required. Three little 8 yr olds were playing with it and it was stressful to watch because it kept rolling over, tipping. There are holes on all sides so if one tried to look out the top hole, it would tip over. If one went out a side window hole, it would tip over. If one one child was sitting inside on one side and one on the other side it would tip over when one child left. If a child would try to climb in from a side window hole it would tip over. The size of the Cube is smaller than I imagined because we used to own a much larger one - that had a solid bottom and solid top. It was almost impossible to tip it over. This one is so small that when all the sides are blown up it was more like a ball, and it rolled and tipped over all the time. I changed the 'rules' so that only one child could play in it at a time. That helped, but it still rolled and tipped. My grandson was looking out a side window when it tipped over. His head went under the water but his arms were inside, not sticking out as they would have been had he planned to go out. He panicked, as I did, and struggled as he was half in and half under the cube until he found his way out, just as I was ready to jump into the pool. He cried really hard when he got out because he was so scared. I just don't want to have to be so stressed watching children play in this. No amount of fun would justify one tragic accident. PLEASE don't buy this.
