  • Nice hardware undercut by broken firmware and software
Style: Mouse
Overall, great build quality and excellent sensor, feels very nice in the hand, nice smooth tracking... It's hard to justify 5/5, but this mouse comes close save for a few minor gripes. The manual directs you to a (broken) beta version of the RGB customization software, but this can be resolved by simply downloading the stable version from HyperX's website. Sensor: 5/5 Looks: 5/5 Ergo/Feel: 4/5 Software: 3/5 (explanation below) First, the pros: -3389 sensor is very precise, no jitter, no tracking problems. Basically just a higher res version of the 3360 sensor, which is also great. Pixart's sensors are the best on the market, so any mouse with one of these is going to have quality tracking. -All the buttons feel nice and crisp without being too stiff. In about a week of using the mouse, I haven't felt that I would ever accidentally misclick, nor do I ever feel like I need to press harder than I should have to. -Foot pads are nice and big, which means tracking is smooth and stable. I previously used a Zowie EC1B (another quality mouse) and one of my only issues with it was that the mouse feet were rather small and didn't have the smoothest tracking movement as a result. -The overall shape gives the ergonomic feel a "jack of all trades" quality. Clawgrippers will be able to work with the slope to the rear for resting your wrist on. However, towards the middle there's a nice palm swell which will work if you prefer palmgrip. Some mice are explicitly palmgrip, some are explicitly clawgrip, this one feels like it can work for both. -Matte finish has a bit of a grit to it, which I like because it makes the mouse grippy without any cheapo rubber pads like steel series -RGB customization has more possibilities than most mice, with lots of RGB zones and pattern combinations available. Profiles saved to the firmware can be swapped on the fly without any software. -If you're looking for a good quality mouse but are turned off by over the top "gamer" swag with lots of angular shapes and accents that make the mouse look like a spaceship, this is the mouse for you. Aside from the light ring and backlit logo, this mouse has a very conventional shape without any further "gamer" bells and whistles. Just a straightforward mouse with a splash of color. Now, the cons: -BE CAREFUL of which software you get - The website will nudge you in the direction of getting the beta software from the Windows Store. As of now, this software is totally broken and does not live up to the expectations you would probably have for a quality mouse. Instead of the beta, you want the older stable release of the software, which does NOT come from the Windows Store and is just a typical exe installer from HyperX's website. The official, stable release does not list the Surge as a supported model, but it IS in fact fully supported. The stable release is the software you want, because it functions exactly the way any RGB customization software should: It lets you save profiles to the firmware, can be minimized to the system tray, etc. Bearing all of that in mind, watch out for the Windows Store beta release of the software - This is the release you want to avoid like the plague. It does not save color profiles to the firmware correctly, and cannot be minimized to the tray, meaning that you will have to keep the window open in the taskbar to make your color profiles work. If you try to save profiles to the firmware and then switch them without the beta software running, the mouse will lock up and will require a hard reset. ... show more

  • odd shape
Style: Mouse
I normally use razer mouse I have both deathadder and mamba te just the te sensor is really lacking. From different reviews I took rocket jump ninja advice and brought this hyperx surge over other's he had on his site. Now here the reason I have 4 stars sure they fixed the buttons colliding but the piece I got on the right side is uneven toward the front so my ring finger grinds against what is the plastic side almost like a knife very annoying and this only occurs on the right side left was fine. I'm still keeping it since it a really good mouse with sensor and weight just have to push the side in making the plastic go in an obvious manufacturing flaw. I also got to say for those who want to get this mouse you might not like it since it tapers toward the back leaving you nowhere to place your palm, and take a bit of time you do get used to it just a fyi. update: It has been about almost a month now since purchase the sensor and function is great probably one of the best mouse I've used. It's lighter than the razor just by a few grams moves nice and accurate. I found during this month It took about 3 days to a full week to get used to just had to adjust my grip since there was no place to rest for my pinky since its tapered profile at the back end. I had to do two adjust must one was change my ring and pinky to kind of move in toward the mouse like a claw grip second is tilting the mouse rear outward a little so that new grip sits comfortably on the mouse. I also found kind of a con on my razer the scroll wheel can tilt right or left to scroll side ways. On the hyperx for a total lose of a good reason they decieded to give you a tilting mouse but only to the right why? completely baffles me either have the function or don't why go half way? ... show more

  • Very Happy w/ this purchase!
Style: Mouse
I've had the Razer Naga for almost 10 years and it was hard to let go. Up until recently I decided it was time to change. I found this mouse researching on Youtube one of the top best gaming mice. This didn't make the top 3, but as far as size and weight this was a great purchase for me. I demo'd a display at Best Buy and the fit of my palm grip felt right. Wasn't too big or too small. It is night and day between playing FPS w/ the Naga and the Pulsfire Surge. I'm able to turn and pan much easier without hitting my keyboard. The glide is perfect within a small amount of mouse pad space. Normally I set my in-game sensitivity to 3-5 and my dpi to about 600. I did not have to adjust my settings at all to compensate for the extra glide. Setting up the performance and colors is a little wonky using the program. I had issues where the profile would reset when the computer sleeps or restarts. This was due to me not dragging the profile into the 3 setting profiles above the customize button. It's a little pain to deal with, but I think the performance outweighs the convenience in setting it up. ... show more

  • Horrible!
Style: Mouse
If you're an avid gamer PLEASE stay away from this mouse. The software will literally break your mouse. Unless you are just going to plug it up and use it as i; then don't do it. If you want to change the settings such as DPI or LED colors then you're going to find yourself in a huge issue..your mouse will stop working. It doesn't move at all but will allow you to right/left click still. Their software is broken. I have two of these exact same mouses both not able to work now ever since I downloaded their NGENUITY software. I know I'm not the only one with this issue as I've seen multiple posts on Reddit about it as well. Annoying ... show more
