Description

A small axe for outdoor use in forests and open land. Made from blasted and clear-lacquered Ironwork, it is also suitable for work in the garden. The shaft is curved and made from hickory. An edge protector is included. The axe is hand-forged and made from Swedish axe steel using traditional methods in use since 1697. The steel is stuck several times, increasing its density and thereby the durability of the axe. Has a clear tempered zone within which the axe can be sharpened whilst not detracting from the strength of the edge. The shaft is made from hickory and treated with Linseed oil.

Beautiful axe! Maybe I got lucky! The grain pattern, color and orientation in the handle is perfect! The head is thin and heavy(1 3/4 lbs)for delimbing trees!     • Nice for small wood chopping
Just used the the other day to cut some wood for a back yard family fire get together and it worked as expected. I did have to hone the edge prior to use though it took the edge well and held it after chopping the wood.

Great axe, shipped and arrived much faster than estimated. Nice high quality product. Good feel and balance, sharpened nicely, blade guard leaves something to be desired but the axe itself is great.

did anyone else notice... they put a label on the side of the handle... no batoning on the back to go through wood and no hammering in stakes using the back of the head? that kinda cuts off 80% of what i need this axe for? i might just have to return for a wetterlings instead... really doesn't give me confidence... ... show more

Its a hatchet -- it splits and chops like any hatchet. 3 years in, the hickory handle split just below the head. I used a wooden mallet to split like you're supposed to, even put a custom collar on it for additional protection. Contacted Hultafors with the attached pictures, and they said they couldn't tell if it was a material defect, so will not honor any kind of warranty. Buy a cheap hatchet with a composite handle, not this one. ... show more

As for the one 2 star review, I think it's pretty obvious that what they are saying is don't use the axe as a wedge (aka beating the poll with a steel axe/hammer) and don't use it to drive a splitting wedge. No axe is meant to take that kind of abuse. I own this axe and have had it on quite a few camping trips. I have used it for chopping, felling, limbing, splitting, and whittling. I keep the handle well oiled and use a lansky puck to sharpen. Sturdy, basic shape, holds a good edge, and all at a decent price. I own quite a few high-end swedish axes,but my personal all-around bushcrafting fav is still the Husqvarna forest axe. ... show more
