  • The most meh VR controller.
For large room-scale setups they are good. Tracking is pretty spot on, feels good in games involving gunplay. They also feel pretty good for melee weapons like swords, clubs, etc. However, locomotion is nearly impossible to do on these controllers with any level of accuracy. Sometimes the trackpads will not register that you have lifted your thumb. Sometimes they don't register your thumb in the right place. The trackpad "button" mechanism seems to be very fragile, or maybe just a bit too easily overloaded in frantic gameplay. There is a a kind of silver lining for these controllers though... If you replace a controller after the trackpads or buttons wear out, you can convert them to function like Vive Trackers for full body tracking. For this job the malfunctioning controllers are perfect, and get better battery life than the official Tracker pucks. ... show more

  • What are people doing to make them give a 1 star review?
They work fine! Once you charge and calibrate them correctly. I don't know what y'all are doing to give them 1 star reviews. Are you throwing them, smashing them against a wall, or throwing them in the toilet? Sure they are not best compared to the index knuckles, but they are ok. I swear people are too rough with their electronics these days. You treat them rough and turn around and yell, Why'd they break tho!? The are not made of concrete or "nintendium. Treat your electronics better, and they'll last a while. Also all electronics eventually break down. ... show more

  • Somewhat defective part
Only 4 stars since product has a slight defect. I ordered this brand new, my old one was broken during use but my other one was in fine condition, I recieved this only a few days ago but already notice an issue. The trackpad button (not the trackpad itself but the actual click in) on the right barely works, the button registers but it seems like the spring mechanism that resets its position to be clicked again is broken so i have to press really hard down in it in order to get it to register. I'm not incredibly picky about it as it still works and everything else about it is working fine as well but when ordering be sure to inspect and test properly to make sure all intended features work ... show more

  • Quality
HTC makes most likely the most durable controller on the VR market, and probably the best for addons and controls, it runs smoother than quest controllers and such. Great product, HTC for life.

  • Inconsistently Great Device
I love the Vive, but the replacement controller I bought after breaking mine (you know how TV + fist goes) only lasted about a week before it started squeaking like a haunted house whenever I pulled the trigger. It really ruins the experience. I did try to fix the one I broke because it was just going into a debug mode and all that really was needed (barring sensor issues) was to pull the button down which had slid up into the case. However, after buying Torx screws to open it, I immediately stripped the screws. They're made out of the cheapest metal I've ever seen. I might have been able to do it with my nails were they sharp enough. In any case, I didn't expect to be able to fix it what with it being this day and age. I just wish I had had the opportunity to try. The Vive rocks, but it could work on its Quality Control. ... show more

Had to replace one of the controllers that came with my headset because it would no longer sync. Now I have an obviously new one and an obviously old controller. I've employed some protective silicone pieces for the controllers and the new one seems to be holding up better than the controllers without the protective measures at the same point it their lifetime. I really wish HTC would fix these controllers to hold out for a little bit longer, but if you buy some protection for them it will go a long way ... show more
