Honestly been burned on a few "cheap" laptops in the past. This laptop is killer. Fast and reliable like the silver and black wish the bezel on the screen was smaller, but beggars can't be choosers. Only other thing don't love is that when it has an SD card inserted it isn't totally flush with the side so if you put this in a backpack with the card side down it ejects itself. On the plus side, very well packaged. I dont think it was ever used, there is not a mark on it and the feet are not even scuffed. Window opened with "Lets get started, choose your language". I picked this one because I wanted a minimum 16 MB ram and lots of HD. The selling point though was the processor, very powerful for a laptop in this category - you can get better but you will be into 4 figures. It performs as i would expect so far. I even loaded WOW and it plays without a hitch, pretty god for a laptop with integrated graphics. Now for the one little issue I had. It would NOT work with an external monitor. Would not recognize one and gave a message that it could not use and external monitor "try a different video card or reload the divers". A different video card was not possible. I reloaded the driver and no good. I tried the built in windows tool to find a better driver, and it was useless as they always are. It did show the driver loaded on the adapter was from 2006 !! Holy crap, 17 years old? I was about to re-pack and send it back to Amazon when I decided to try one of those free driver updaters. It found a new driver from 2023, loaded it and bingo - it worked. A 17 year old driver....I was about to give 4 stars just for that but the 3rd party driver updaters are out there and easy to use so if you need to, go that route. Yes it is small and light and some call that "flimsy" but small and light is what I wanted. ... show more

    • Nothing but a waste of time and money. I guess you get what you pay for.
How the laptop I received in the mail get approved as a refurbished device in EXCELLENT condition is a joke. The two biggest issues I had are with the storage and the graphics. I guess you get what you pay for because this costed $332 refurbished but after troubleshooting this piece of junk for hours with no success, I would rather spend double and get a new computer. The laptop I bought was supposed to have 512GB of storage. That is what the product desciption says. The one I received only has 258GB. I honestly would have let this slide if the graphics were not broken since even 256GB would be good enough for me. Next point, the graphics are broken. I keep getting "code 43 error" that would need to be professionally fixed. And believe me, I have tried everything to fix this myself: updating, uninstalling and reinstalling the driver, roll back the driver, delete corrupted files, checking for updates, you name it. NOTHING fixed this error. The OS version isn’t even listed on HP’s customer service website when I looked up the device to see if I have to download a different driver, so HP cannot even provide me support. Getting this professionally fixed, combined with the amount I paid to buy this laptop, will end up costing me MORE money than it would cost to buy a new laptop. I already had a problem with the delivery (this is NOT the seller’s fault), but sending me a laptop with defective graphics and half as much storage as I was sold is very frustrating. My wife wanted a laptop to play Minecraft with good view distance. Everything reasonable laptop looked to cost $700. Craigslist had some crummy options for $350. Then I discovered this AMAZING deal on Amazon. At only $250 for a very decent laptop, great CPU, adequate graphics, 16gb RAM, I'm totally blown away by what good value for money it is. When it arrived it was at the "please pick your language" screen in Windows10 setup -- so I get a completely clean fresh install and a legit license. Oh, and it plays Minecraft great!!! ... show more

    • Works great, like new except..
I received this computer the day after I ordered it, and it looked as new. I set it up, updated Windows, and found that the SD card reader didn't recognize any cards I put in it. It also didn't recognize another monitor plugged into the HDMI port. I took a clue from another reviewer, downloaded the Driver Booster app, and ran it to find and update drivers. Once that was done, the SD card reader worked, and the second monitor did. So, I am giving this four stars. Those two things should have worked out of the box. After that, I found the computer fast and so far does what I want it to do, but it does have issues running the latest Photoshop, but for the price, I am happy with it. I like the keyboard, and the fact that it is lighted helps in lower light. The computer has a very fast start-up. One thing that is not ideal is the trackpad. It doesn't respond to my input well, and it sometimes has to have my input twice. All in all, I am happy so far with the laptop that I am using to type this now. Two weeks in and It's been great. It charges fast, takes maybe 30 minutes to fully charge, and the battery life is good. The touchpad is great. I have never liked touchpads, but the one on this computer works great. ... show more

    • Great laptop for student learning
This is a great laptop for learning, I purchased it for my cyber security bootcamp course and it met all the specs. I did upgrade the RAM from 16 to 32 without a problem. Its fast, quick the camera works great and the audio is very good as well. Im extremely pleased with this laptop. If I had a choice I probably would have gotten the one with the Ryzen 7 over the 5 as I plan on keeping it for more advanced Cyber Security career. ... show more

I ordered this model and it was a great laptop as advertised. Backlit key and fast start-up with plenty of ram and an SSD drive. I installed all the virus/malware scanners and Free Office for a college student. I noticed that the battery wasn't charging. The warranty said it guaranteed 80%. There was no HP support assistant software installed so I reinstalled it to find up what was wrong. Once installed it did a full health of the laptop and said the battery needs replacement. I also found that the laptop had 8 months left on its warranty from HP. Being a tech, open up the back and see the battery is new. I replaced the battery anyway; put it together and it still wouldn't charge. HP Assistant says to replace the battery. I just did that so the software is lying. Doing more research and trying different methods I found the answer. HP has a model legacy throughout the years. The battery needs to be hard reset so the laptop will charge. SOLUTION: With the laptop off and plugged in PRESS and HOLD the power button until the LED power indicator light goes out. When it boots back to Windows and hover the pointer over the battery on the task bar you will see a charging indicator and time left to full charge. For me, it took about 30 seconds. Researching it to find the answer took 3 hours. No trouble since. I can see people returning it if it didn't charge but this trick would save so much drama. ... show more
