  • Exceptional Value!
I purchased this on Prime Day 2019 when it was discounted $150 from full price. At the time I was debating between an MSI and an ASUS gaming laptop as I didn’t have the budget for an Alienware. At that point I was unfamiliar with the HP Omen and the only other gaming laptop to consider was a Lenovo which I will never make the mistake of purchasing again. I needed a good laptop for college and one that I could play independent games on. This works well for both. The price of the HP Omen at the time was $829.99 and looking back in hindsight, I definitely would’ve paid more. The red backlit keyboard provides an exquisite visual in light or in dark. The mouse pad operates smoothly and precisely, and the keyboard has a nice well gripped feel yet is delicate to the touch. This in my opinion is the best bang for your buck. ASUS makes great and affordable laptops as well, but with the price of the HP Omen being as much as $100 less on average, you won’t be disappointed saving the extra money for the same amount of gaming laptop goodness. PROS • Great for college & gaming • Nice overall appearance • Lightweight (for a gaming laptop) & durable • Reliable • Great value CONS • Heavier than your typical college notebook Delivery of this product was better than you would expect. The box had plenty of air in it and the inner laptop box was surrounded by large air bubbles to keep it safe and secure. The outer box was also in great shape and looked as if it was handled gently throughout delivery. I had to contact HP for some questions during setup and they were more than happy to help. Hold time on the phone was less than five minutes. This entire purchase was a very positive experience. If you’re looking for a great laptop that you can use for anything, look no more. I highly recommend this HP Omen laptop and HP products in general. My business laptop and my desktop at home are both HP as well and I’ve been very satisfied with all. ... show more

  • A great gaming laptop that desperately needs to stay plugged in
I bought this laptop because I wanted an upgrade from my previous awful one. I didn't need anything super high powered, just for video/photo editing programs and maybe the occasional game that isn't available for consoles. It runs great, is very fast, and runs applications without a problem. The two main problems with this laptop were battery life and heating. The battery, while unplugged, lasts about an hour and a half on average. It can go longer when using a very low-resource program, such as Paint, Word, Chrome, and PDF viewing. While gaming, it doesn't last long at all. Keep this in mind if your main concern is long-term unplugged usage. The laptop also has the tendency to heat up pretty quickly. Even with dual fans supporting a great ventilation system, the thing will warm up fast when running a high performance program or game. Whether or not it gets hot enough to deal long term damage is unknown, but I still got an elevated laptop stand to help avoid issues. To me, these were both very low priority issues, and worth having for how well this laptop runs. ... show more

  • Great Buy, was what i expected it to be
Keep in mind that this is more of a rant, and I'm half asleep, but this is what I've gone through so far with the product. Originally came from an hp g62 2010 - 2018, was able to make the laptop last. Finally wanted to upgrade and saw this on sale, so I went for it and it was what I wanted in a laptop for what I do: Music, School, Youtube, Slaughtering Demons. The rant and rave of an individual: The screen is very nice, I can confirm it is an In-plane Switching Monitor or (IPS) as I do not have to center the screen or move my body to get a great view of it, unlike a lot of TN panels that I've used back in the day. The disassembly of the device is very very simple, remove the screws from the bottom of the case and the case pops off, might need a thin tool to pry the case off a bit (only con here) and you'll see the ram and the hard drive and the nvme along with the fans which make it easy for upgrades and cleaning. Also the battery is not soldered into the board and easily comes out for replacement after you remove some screws. All screws I noticed were Phillip's head. (I like to watch disassembly videos in case something happened, that way I can tear into it and hopefully fix the issue.) The ram is decent for 12 gigs, a 4 gig stick and an 8 gig stick, but I plan on upgrading the ram soon. Now after uninstalling a few things and setting windows to use less resources, I idle at about 18-19% which isn't bad at all, depends on what you do though. I do believe the manufacturer specifications have tested up to 16 gigs of 2666 on the board, however; there are cases with other omen laptops, where you can plop in 16 gigs in each dimm slot for a total of 32 gigs, wouldn't recommend it because it's not officially supported, but I will go ahead and try it (making sure i'm at the latest bios update from hp), and will provide an additional review/update. (I like to run a lot of things at once.) The processor is very nice, windows shows that i have 4 physical cpus and 8 logical processors, and I idle at 0% after turning the thing on (which mine booted into windows less than 3 seconds with the nvme 128 gig harddrive). I plan on upgrading the nvme from 128 gigs to 1 terabyte, might clone the drive or just grab a fresh install of windows 10 and slap it on a usb drive and fresh install, go from there. From what I read on the specification sheet for the dc0010nr, I think a cap of 512 Gigs nvme was officially tested and supported, but I'm going another 512 and see how the machine fairs. The 1 terabyte hard drive isn't slow at all, but I have nothing on it but a few games and some music, I constantly keep it defragged. The sound on the laptop is definitely an upgrade from my old hp g62 via software and hardware, but i use headphones into the 3.5mm jacks for mic and playback anyways. when it comes to gaming: Doom 2016 gives about 100 to 130fps on 1080p, ultra + open glide settings.... battlefield 1 on 1080p ultra gives about 45+ on mp and 60+ sp, drop it to high and it gives about 60+ but it depends on what map and what all is going on via gameplay. The heat on the laptop isn't bad, the machine will get warm and the fans will kick into high gear almost like a delay, but there is absolutely no throttling and when i'm finished with my gaming, the fans kick off to silent almost immediately. Also with the gpu, this is a verified gtx 1050 ti with 4096MB of vram in it. Final note: I think it's worth what I payed for: 799.99. If my desktop crashes and burns, it's a great replacement for it. It absolutely destroys solitaire and minesweeper along with other office products like excel spread-sheeting and you're in need for a couple of Pareto diagrams or 3 point beta distributions to resolve employee padding with P.M.O affairs making sure the stakeholders are happy. Alas I digress... I unboxed it, i pressed the power button and it immediately shot into windows and was ready to go. :) ... show more
