  • A Major upgrade at a very low cost. How can one go wrong at this price point.
After a lot of research and procrastination I decided to buy this refurbished HP 800 G1. I paid $302 after tax and it is at even a lower cost now. How could one go wrong at the price of RAM and 1TB SSD alone. I read negative reviews but I must say this HP arrived well packaged and as anyone should, I opened the PC to make sure nothing came loose in shipping. I added a much better wireless adapter than was supplied , but I have all my machines ( many dedicated for specific diagnostic instrumentation applications ) all of which are CAT5 hardwired to the LAN almost 100% of the time. I am in the process of building a NAS based on a HP Z420. I upgraded to the 800 G1 from a Lenovo i3 based machine with 8GB of RAM and a mechanical drive. I looked at the cost of upgrading it and it surely added up to more than I paid for this refurbished HP. This machine blows the Lenovo away in a big way. There is zero bloat-ware, it boots at lightning speed, handles AutoCAD 3D / Mechanical Desktop, , ORCAD schematic capture to design rule checking, to netlist generation and PCB Layout without a problem. It is also a night and day improvement when it comes to Video editing and rendering. It is a very fast process where before I would walk away and pray my project completed before I grew old and was in a rest home ;-) , DVD architect, Reaper, Vegas, Sony Music Studio, Sony Movie Maker, and other demanding applications run very efficiently now even as I do other research and multitask on the second monitor. The i7-4770 Intel processor is not a beast of a processor but this platforms combination of hardware seems to work extremely well, actually beyond my expectations. I added a 3TB mechanical drive partitioned in half, Drive E is the backup drive, and Drive F is where I put a massive collection of technical documents , reference and electronic project pictures, documentation and the working files of numerous electronic, factory automation, and vacuum tube designs I have done over the years. I am not a Gamer as I prefer to be a creator so I cannot comment on Gaming but one would be hard-pressed to get a demanding video card into this unit and with the SFF Power Supply. This brings me to the Cons: I have not seen a SFF Power Supply of higher Wattage available for these machines. If someone has, let me know. in retrospect there are only 3 SATA connectors on the Motherboard taken by the DVD-RW, 1TB SSD and now my 3TB mechanical drive occupying the third. adding a PCIe SATA card is out of the question as I am very sure that would be taxing on the SFF PS. I also believe that 32GB RAM is the maximum for this machine.....But who's complaining at $300 dollars it is what it is and a major upgrade at that ! I'm just adding this as a FYI so folks don't over tax the SFF platform. I Love the machine ! and thank you. BTW: My video editing is at a amateur level and I know there are more complex and demanding videos and more demanding software at the professional level. Also I do more simplistic 3D CAD Modeling than many folks. I cannot give any input in those areas at higher levels. I do have complex music with many tracks using software DAW programs and various VSTs and analog instrument inputs with a nice Pesonus studio interface , Midi sound banks etc. at the end i end up with many layers going on. Those projects run very well on this $300 HP. With no latency issues. Also video quality and resolution is fine for the above mentioned programs I use. . For gaming ( and the popular programs I read keep getting more demanding , and it drives the hardware industry Hmmm ? Anyhow again ‘ I think ‘ one may want a different platform as I have friends that are big into gaming. With Power Supplies, liquid cooling With a crap load of fans , RGB everything is some kind of Rage for some reason. And the price of a GPU card for gaming is outrageous and many ate huge. I do like the fancy GPU software control for those cards. . Add gaming to a product and it costs much more. I’m not hating by any means. But this is not the platform for anything close to those gamibg platforms. May work fine as is but response and smoothness I suspect would suffer. This works great for my needs and I would like to look for a higher wattage Supply in this SFF as to add a PCIe for added , and fast SATA ports and a RAID drive array. If I can’t that’s fine , it is still great machine for the price and it is my main workstation. My personal NAS will handle the Raid issue. enterprise NAS it is not. With the awesome free NAS software and not at a massive cost , it will be fine. If your like me with your needs you can’t beat this bargain price relative to the great performance. Lots of rambling there but with that processor it exceeded my expectations. Big time. . ... show more

  • Bang for the buck
For the price I was worried I wouldn't get the actual specs stated. That worry was unfounded. I got the 64-bit Windows 10 Pro, 32G of Ram, Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-4770 CPU @ 3.40GHz , 1 TB hard-drive, and a mouse and keyboard. As well a power cord, no audio/video cables or speakers. This is a refurbished item so there was minor scuffing, 3 out of 4 of the rubber buttons it rests on were not present. I haven't tested the CD-Rom as it's rarely used these days. The mouse and keyboard are very fragile and I expect them to break within 6 months to a year if not sooner, however, they were new in their respective boxes. Plus I actually like the feel of the keyboard and it's responsive enough to type this out. When I popped open the case it was a little stiff getting the panel off and there were no screws holding it on, mind you it is a latch release but there are holes for screws. Inside it appears clean and dust free, the 4 ram sticks do not have a heat sink covering them, definitely not for overclocking and I didn't bother checking the Hz they run at. I was impressed with the CPU heat sink fan, not a stock fan and will keep it cool for sure. I can't tell whether the power supply is stock or replaced but for a ~10 year old unit I would guess it's been replaced or will be in need of that soon. As stated the hard-drive is a 1 TB hard drive though I only got 884 GB total and 69 GB was already used, meaning it's probably a lower quality hard-drive. My anticipation is it will fail, so a SSD upgrade may be in order. For the graphics it is stock Intel HD Graphics 4600, the controls are user friendly and my screen resolution is crisp on my old Sony Bravia tv from 13 years ago... Just using a straight VGA to VGA thought I will get a VGA to HDMI plug at some point. For audio I have a cheap soundbar, but the audio is clear. I could get more specific about a lot of the specs on the different items but honestly for the price this little computer is a great buy and more than enough for a home office and maybe some light video editing and some older games with a GPU upgrade. Mind you there are other options available for ~$132 at the time of writing this(Nov 16, 2022) however what sold me on this was the faster quad-core CPU over dual cores*, more RAM, and larger hard-drive. From completely off to having an internet tab open took about 21 seconds which is fast, handles multiple tabs open and YouTube videos playing while streaming music. *to figure out how a CPU holds up compared to others you can go to https://www.cpubenchmark.net/ and find your CPU. As well you can compare up to 5 at once; which I did against the others and while one was extremely close it didn't offer the RAM or hard-drive space. ... show more

  • Exactly as described
Latest update: Amazon support was 0 help(see below). I contacted Greentoptech (the seller) and they were fantastic. Shipped me a new SDD drive at no charge and all was back up and running. They had offered my choice of new SDD drive or full refund. Awesome PC and better yet, awesome seller. Always check reviews of the seller of refurbished items... I paid a couple dollars more to have a seller with a great reputation. Was well worth it. 4 stars for product only because Amazon support was so bad. Update- PC drive died (I know it is supposed to be SDD which I did not think had these problems. Anyway after full setup, PC would not boot. I know this can happen, reason for 1 start is Amazon support call was painful and they wanted me to call HP for support. Product is not covered under HP support so I have no idea why they wanted to have me call. I refused and asked for replacement. Only thing they can do is send email to vendor, so I will update if my return goes well. But right now, Amazon support for refurbished is 1 star at most.... I see some comments about no dvd-rw or wrong memory... not in my case. Machine I recied matched all the specs including dvd-rw and 32gb memory. Machine was clean and in great condition. I would recommend. One note, I did look for a seller with a good solid reputation. I paid more than lowest price by looking at other sellers. Only cost a couple dollars more. Would also recommend verifying seller reputation as well. My seller was Greentoptech . ... show more

  • Great Buy For The Buck
Received the PC in well-packed, re-enforced cardboard packaging. Right out of the box, the PC performed flawlessly. I've been very impressed also with the aesthetic aspect of the computer. It does not have any visible blemishes or scratches. Relative to operation, the computer activated Windows Pro 10 quickly and without issue. The only issue I had was that the computer gave me a "2234 HECI Error During Initialization" during bootup. After researching the issue, it was determined that a jumper was missing from a terminal on the motherboard. After placing the jumper on the terminal in question, the problem went away. While the resolution was simple, I question how many newbies would be able to solve this problem if they had limited computer maintenance experience. Regardless, even if I had not corrected the problem, I don't think the error would have impacted the overall performance of the PC...it was just a nuisance to see the error message every time the computer booted. Lastly, even though it was not on the computer's description on Amazon, a Wi-Fi adapter was shipped with the PC. This was a nice touch as I didn't think I was entitled to one and had already made a decision to use an ethernet cable for internet access. Overall, a great buy for a VERY reasonably priced computer with great performance specs. I would definitely purchase again if the need arose. ... show more

  • RUN FAR AWAY. WORST PURCHASE YOULL MAKE, just read all the reviews. RUN FAR AWAY. WORST PURCHASE YOULL MAKE, just read all the reviews.
EDIT 2: IM BLOWN AWAY THIS SELLER IS EVEN ALLOWED TO CONTINUE TO SELL THESE!!! after reading all the other reviews where literally we’ll over 65% of them all had the literal exact same issue with the ssd failing clearly tells us this seller is either willing knowing selling defective models or simply doesn’t even know / care. After dealing with my first issues all was well until just like literally every other buyer on here the hard drive just completely failed and the computer won’t even read it. So I stupidly spent another 50$ and ordered a brand new ssd, installed it and all was well again for maybe 2 weeks and then boom same exact issue. I’m far from a computer expert but I’m also no dummy and clearly Something is causing the hard drives to simply tank/ not read. AVOID THIS SELLER AND PRODUCT LIKE THE PLAGUE and quite frankly Amazon needs to step in and shut them down this is ridiculous. EDIT: yeah I definitely jumped the gun when I first reviewed this. Was great for a day but after that it’s been nothing but a nightmare. Major wifi issues and speeds no matter what adapter I use but that barely matters because it will literally blue screen everytime you use it. Messaged seller about issues less than a week after I bought and never got a reply. Buyer beware. So it’s still early and as of now I’ve basically only turned it on and set it up but man it went smooth as butter and extremely fast. Have it hooked up to a 27” Samsung monitor curved j scored locally for only 50 bucks so all in all I’m all in at only 300$ or so. That’s simply amazing for the shear amount of equipment you get alone. Will update with any issues and after I open it up to add a wifi/Bluetooth module and all that. I guess you could definitely say I had super low hopes for this as I actually dealt with a different seller previous this purchase who literally had to send me 2 replacements before I just wanted my money back plus his price was the same and into i5 and 16gb of ram. You literally can’t go wrong with this thing. Even the worst brand computer out there right now if it had these specs new you’d be looking at a min of 1000$ still. Just buy it! ... show more

  • I-7 computer refurbished
The computer worked right out of the box. I'm extremely happy with it. The only problem was when I hit the buy button is was to have DDr4 ram instead it came with DDr3. It was still 32 GB. It was also to come with WIFI/bluetooth but what was said about it, "not very good". It didn't come with any. I find both of these minor and I will say the price was lower that what I thought I was going to pay by a little. That was probably to make up for the difference. I've added a WIFI/Bluetooth adapter and it works great. For the price this is an awesome computer. I did add the extended warranty from Asurion and they sent me an e-mail with a phone if I had any trouble setting it up. That is excellent service. ... show more

  • Nice upgrade for my old i3 desktop.
I needed to upgrade to something that handled analog video capture and encoding better than my old i3 desktop but didn't want to spend an arm and a leg for a new one. This has all the specs I was looking for except maybe adding a video card later. The i7 handles it just fine, however, so I'm undecided whether I need to upgrade or not. The computer is almost silent through normal use but the fans will really kick in when encoding video. That's to be expected though. The SSD was a brand I never heard of (Suneast) so I replaced it with a Samsung EVO to give me peace of mind and I'll use the Suneast for extra storage. The original SSD may be fine but I didn't want to take any chances. Other than that I'm very pleased with the overall performance and size. There are plenty of pci slots and USB ports. But keep in mind that this as a small form factor computer so shop accordingly for add-ons. The one I got came with a DVD Rom instead of a DVDRW. I called the seller directly whose number was on the flyer in the box. They immediately sent me a replacement HP DVDRW which I swapped out. They told me to just discard the old drive and not bother returning. Service good so far. Windows wouldn't activate automatically at first so I had to enter the key on the sticker and it activated fine after that. This was a great choice for me so far. ... show more

  • Best bang for your buck
I finally had to replace my movie server pc. It was an original hp machine that I replaced parts in over the years. Finally though, it reached its limits and had to be put to pasture. After much searching and brain aneurisms because of the price, I came across this beauty. Like most of you, I was a bit skeptical on a rebuilt/refurbished pc. After reading about the specs, I fell in love. The 1 TB SSD HD is almost worth the price alone. Throw in 32gb of memory, intel core i7, windows 10 x64 pro, built in Wi-Fi, an onboard UHD video card, you just couldn’t build this pc for the price it’s going for on Amazon. After getting it up and running, It has proven to be a fantastic machine. It’s a bit of an overkill for a dedicated movie server, but it is no less amazing. Movies load in a fraction of the time and there is virtually no buffering, the entire movie preloads before the first 10 seconds of the movie is over with. My old machine could only preload about 30 minutes of the movie. Plus, I can stream to as many devices I want to with full HD and this machine won’t even blink any eye. My only negative I have is that I don’t believe it has a TPM module, so it can’t upgrade to windows 11, not that it breaks my heart or anything. The literature that comes with it doesn’t say it has one, but the diagnostic seems to think it’s just not activated. In any case, not a deal breaker. Windows 10 will be supported till 2025 as of now, so no biggie. Plus, it need be, a tpm can be installed. Overall, this machine is worth the price. You can expand an upgrade as required, but out of the box, it’s a beast. ... show more
