Top Amazon Reviews

  • Great gaming laptop
I was a little suspicious given the lack of any reviews and the Q&A section response linking to a model with different specs. However, I was pleasantly surprised that the product description on Amazon is mostly accurate: 17" 1080p IPS 144hz GSync matte display Intel Core i7-9750H Nvidia Geforce RTX 2070 - I believe this is the laptop variant of the 2070(higher clocks than Max-Q) 16GB(2x8GB) DDR4 memory - User upgradeable, 2 slots total Samsung 256GB M.2 NVMe SSD - Doesn't seem to be user upgradeable though I didn't look too carefully. 1TB 7200RPM SATA HDD - User upgradeable(mine was a seagate barracuda but this could vary) Intel wireless AC 4 zone RGB keyboard - The zones are left 1/3, middle 1/3, right 1/3, WASD keys. Trackpad with physical left and right buttons I/O Ports - Custom power plug, Ethernet, HDMI, Mini-DP, USB-C, 3 USB-A SS, SDCard slot, Headphone, Microphone Overall this is a great laptop for gaming. The everyday price is actually pretty good considering the specs you are getting, so would be a great deal if it ever goes on sale. The old saying "you get what you pay for" is really true here. Nonetheless, the SSD should be ~500GB instead of 256GB, and the sound quality should be better. Make sure you swap out the HDD with a large SATA SSD and you should be good to go. This is a full blown gaming laptop, which means it is big and bulky, the power supply is big and bulky, it will get hot and the fans will run loud, the battery life will be abysmal. These are a given for legitimate gaming laptops and hence I'm not going to hold any of that against it. To be fair I haven't even tried it on battery so can't really speak to the battery life. The gaming performance is pretty good. For e-sports/casual/old games getting a locked 144fps at 1080p medium/high shouldn't be a problem. For newer/AAA games you will probably get 80-120fps at 1080p medium. Lowering graphical settings won't help much as you will probably be CPU/Platform limited at this point and due to the thermal/power constraints of a laptop there isn't really any way to solve this. With GSync this is still not bad, and it may make sense to up the graphic settings and go for a more consistent lower fps vs a higher fps with more variability. Complaints: Sound quality - For a laptop this size meant for gaming, the sound is disappointing. There is literally no bass whatsoever; I'm not expecting a full sub but at least some bass for something this size. Note that there is a software equalizer/DSP in the Omen audio control and if you find it hard to hear voices, you can adjust it. Primary drive too small - The SSD is 256GB, it really should have been in the 500GB range for this price. The viewing angles on the screen - It is an IPS display but the viewing angles seem more limited than on most IPS panels I've used. For a single user shouldn't be an issue though. Left "Ctrl" key on keyboard when gaming - It is a bit too far left because of the "Fn" key to the right of it. My pinky doesn't like stretching out that far in the WASD position. I can still game fine but would have preferred the keys swapped or some other solution that brought the Ctrl key to the right just a bit. No auto-adjusting screen brightness - Doesn't have an ambient light sensor to adjust the brightness automatically. Note: The one I purchased had an issue where the keyboard's left RGB zone's blue light was stuck on. The replacement doesn't have this issue and is working well so far. ... show more

  • Check your actual Model Number!
Set name: 4GB RAM
While the computer came properly boxed and labeled and on time...it has the Athlon AMD 712OU processor...not the Intel 4500 as pictured in the Amazon description. First off, I'm a school teacher...not a computer "geek" or knowledgeable about the differences in the "working guts" of a laptop. But my web research shows that both are good, budget friendly cpu units, with the Athlon actually being a little faster. So for $300 bucks...I'm completely satisfied with the product and seller. But if you are particular about certain features or brands, then you may want to make sure the product you order...is what you get. Still 5 stars...cause I don't know if it's a classic "Bait and Switch" or just One of those things that happen, being there are so many different makes and models of computers available today. I'm Happy with it so far. Reviewed 8/26 ... show more

  • Functional, but a little cheap.
It's functional and does what it's supposed to do. But it kinda feels cheap and no touch-screen.

  • Disappointment
Laptop is great, everything I was wanting and expecting. Side note: ensure the RTX 2070 has up to date drivers as some of the older titles might fritz out on you or be poor graphics quality when playing for the first time. Also, the battery life isnt great considering the consumption rate, so it's basically a moveable desktop (I expected this). Edit: have had the laptop for 7 months now and is now crashing constantly. I am getting 2 different crashes. One is a BSOD and states a "paging fault found in nonpaged area". This error is apparently caused by a couple possible issues, RAM or Hard drive are the primary cumplrites. Run Diags on it and says everything is fine. I've done everything Microsoft has recommended and still no success. The second crash is while gaming, the screen freezes, sound stutters for a good minute or 2 before self restarting. No error message appears and nothing is stated to WHY it crashed in event viewer. I'm at my wits end with this laptop and severely disappointed with it. Hardware looks great but at the rate it crashes unexpectedly, its borderline unusable. Wish I could return this paperweight and get something else. DO NOT BUY!!!!! It will break!!!!! ... show more

  • Rip off
HP is going downhill. Brand new & it keeps dimming. I bought large screen so I could see it better, but the quality of the visual is poor. Only 1 USB plugin so I can't plug in a flash drive when my supposed Bluetooth mouse (which still has to be plugged in) is plugged in. For the price, this laptop is junk! Very disappointed. I threw away the box, because I've never had a problem with HP laptops before & being new, it should work like a charm. The charge doesn't last as long as my old laptop did. Looks like I'm going to have to find a new brand of computer! 5 stars, so it gets posted but doesn't deserve any stars. Update: just a couple of days into it, now it has problems charging. Charged half the day & no change, so I wiggled the plug in on laptop & it started to charge. Also, the battery only lasts a couple of hours. Most frustrating laptop I ever had! I did a factory reset & there were several resets, so I paid $500 for a used laptop! Just try to get customer service! ... show more

  • Just a little chromebook
Set name: 4GB RAM
Although advertised as having a touch screen, this model does not support a touch screen. Also, the screen is very short, comparing this to a MacBook, it is significantly smaller than the 14in screen on the Mac. This is truly a Chromebook that doesn't want you to use chrome, they give multiple warnings when installing Chrome not to proceed. Alas, this will work for the school's intention but nothing more. ... show more
