Description

In 1969, Douglas G. Howard set out to solve this dilemma: how can you eliminate blemishes in wood finishes and restore the original color and luster without removing any of the existing finish? Unable to find an answer at his local hardware store, he went to work in his garage to create his own product. His goal was to make something that would be much more than a surface treatment, yet nothing like a stripper or a refinisher. The key was to develop a formula that could clean and polish the surface, penetrate the finish with stain, and leave the original finish intact. The end result was Restor-A-Finish, Doug Howard's first in what would become a complete line of wood care products. For over 40 years, Howard's Restor-A-Finish has been a standard in the antique industry. Because Restor-A-Finish preserves the original wood finish it also helps preserve its authenticity and value, whereas stripping the finish may literally strip the piece of its value. Almost any existing wood tone, from a Birdseye Maple to a Jacobean, can be closely matched using one of the nine available finish colors. Trying it on just about everything with a traditional wood finish, antique dealers, refinishers, and homemakers have found it to be a safer and easier alternative to stripping and refinishing. Scratches, oxidation, white heat rings, watermarks, smoke damage, and sun fade simply disappear. Easy to use and works GREAT
I bought this product to take care of a large area Of a solid wood table from the 50s. Someone had placed a hot plate on it (numerous times) and the stain had faded greatly. I applied this product and immediately noticed a difference. The fading started to disappear and the wood no longer look dried out. I applied a few more times and now I can’t even tell there was ever an issue. I then applied to other pieces, an old school treadle sewing cabinet and a 1950s Encyclopedia cabinet, and they all look refreshed and shiny. The product is easy to use (just wipe it on with a rag) and works beautifully! ... show more

Just look at the pics and you will see. Don’t even bother riding my review.
Whaatt??? Spilled bleach on this table about a year ago heard about the stuff on Insta yesterday and … wow wow wow. I just used a regular rag to apply I’m shocked. If I look super close or in certain angles, you can kind of see it but again this was BLEACH and it looks phenomenal. Not sure I even got the right stain for it. I got walnut. This doesn’t seem like walnut, but who knows and honestly who cares it worked. ... show more

Will buy again
Using this to clean up old doors and built in storage. Everything looks amazing! It restored light scratches and made the wood look new. I've used alot of wood products and I'm impressed with this and will buy again in the future. TIP: it takes time to thoroughly dry and will stain everything. Wiping away excess may be necessary. Treat this like a wood stain. Very easy to use if you're familiar with stain. The bottle is much smaller than expected but there's plenty of product if you don't have a large project. ... show more

Over hyped on YouTube
I honestly didn’t find this to work better than scratch cover, which smells a million times better. Didn’t cover/remove/buff out any scratches or water marks- in fact you can see a million scratch marks added with the 0000 steel wool I used. Yes I carefully followed instructions. I mean the piece looks better than before (on the whole) but only marginally. Just not worth the smell. Also you’re supposed to wait 30 before poly which is not reasonable for my use which is a bathroom vanity. ... show more

Great!
I've used this in Walnut on several shades of wood (all similar or darker) and am very pleased with the results. I wouldn't go so far as to call it a universal miracle worker, but it definitely makes the furniture I have look better. I used it on 3 items - an antique table with a damaged veneer top, a mango wood C-shaped desk/table, and a set of vintage dining chairs, likely oak. The newest table, the C-shaped table, worked the best. The finish that came on the table was VERY water-soluble and a few friends' drinks put on it later, it had several lightened and/or dull spots from wiped-away water marks. This, combined with Feed 'n' Wax, made it look basically new. I expected to have to refinish it entirely but now it's almost perfect, and this product did more than I could have expected. I think a little paste wax or something glossy on top would return it to its glory. Note: As directed, I used steel wool to apply it to stubborn spots, which helped a lot. I also left it on fairly thick for a half-hour before wiping away the excess, which helped more than the first time I used it. The table and chairs were definitely improved by this product, but not to the same extent. Chipped veneer and scratches were too tricky, though the shallow scratches are noticeably masked. There are some water spots on the dining chairs that this did a good job of camouflaging, particularly when used with steel wool. Overall, it's not going to bring an item from the beyond, but it does a great job of being a gap between refinishing and would be great for a piece with minimal damage. ... show more

Easy to Use & Instant Results
The Restor-A-Finish was easy to use and provided instant results! We had some scuffs and damage to our wood floors where we put down our attic ladder. The damage caused white circular marks on our floor that looked terrible. I followed the directions and placed a small amount of the finish on an old cloth. Once I rubbed the finish onto the floor, it immediately looked better. It took some time to dry & the color became a bit lighter. Although it does not perfectly match my floor, it looks 95% better than leaving the scuffed damaged floor. My eyes do not go directly to those "white spots" anymore. It now blends in nicely with the finish. I highly recommend it! ... show more
