Description

For over 50 years, Howard's Restor-A-Finish has been a standard in the antique industry. Because Restor-A-Finish preserves and restores beauty to the original wood finish, it helps preserve the antiques’ authenticity and value, whereas stripping the finish may literally strip the piece of its value. Restor-A-Finish penetrates faded lacquer, shellac, and varnish finishes to bring back the original color and luster. It restores the depth of grain in wood finishes, going much deeper than temporary “scratch cover” products. Restor-A-Finish penetrates and permanently restores most wood finishes without removing any of the existing finish - this is why it is very popular for antiques. Restor-A-Finish maintains the original "patina" of an antique finish, maintaining its character and value as an antique. To protect the newly restored finish Feed-N-Wax is recommended as a follow-up to Restor-A- Finish. “Restore It – Don’t Strip It!” Permanently revive and restore the original color and luster in one step, without removing any of the existing finish. Most wood finishes that seem to need a complete refinishing job can be completely restored in a few minutes with this simple wipe-on, wipe-off process. White heat rings and watermarks, sun fade, oxidation, smoke damage, and most other blemishes can be quickly blended away. Before you go to the extreme of stripping it, try restoring it!

The result is amazing. See by yourself before and after pictures. I was about to throw it when I found this product. I am glad I bought it. I will refinish all my furniture!

  • Beginner’s luck? No it just works.
So the picture is portraying the work done on the upper portion of the piece only, about 3” where the bottom of the curve ends. I dusted, soaked my first clean cloth in Restor-A-Finish, wiped and worked it in to small areas then let it dry 30”. I then soaked my other clean cloth in the Feed-N-Wax. I added a layer to the furniture piece then wiped any thick layers off leaving it to dry about 40”. Lastly I used the dry part of the cloth, used for the initial wax, and buffed out any remaining areas. You can see the amazing results. The unprotected wood and the drab/dull color below and the beautiful bright clean/restored/protected piece on top. This cabinet has been in our family since the 1920’s, maybe longer. It’s held together with many brackets and screws but mostly love. As long as I can keep it looking this way on the outside, I’ll keep using the Howard furniture products. ... show more

  • Great Product That Really Works
The only negative comment I have is that the kit didn't include a cleaner. I thought a complete restoration kit would consist of a cleaner, a restorer, and a polish. This kit has a restorer, and two forms of polish. Other than that, it worked perfectly and did a nice job on the 55 year old finish I used it on. ... show more

  • Nice "One Stop Shopping" Refinishing Kit
Pretty remarkable little package. This is not a toxic stripping and refinishing kit. It is a largely topical cosmetic restoration. Since directions for sequential use were left out (though intuitive if you've been around furniture refinishing) thought I'd share this - The cleaner is thorough, but won't even begin to strip the surface. (Formby offers a product that gently strips, but that's a glove-wearing, fume-producing solvent with stain.) The Orange Oil will dissolve years of wax and general grime, likely surprising you with the gunk that comes off even 'clean' appearing furniture. The 'Restor A Finish' is applied after the cleaner has been wiped nearly dry and allowed to dissipate. It'll cover nearly all surface scratches, and hide even the ones that have gone through the finish. If you're experimental, you can take 000 steel wool to de-bur and level the finish first, or just apply the RestorAFinish with a steel wool pad as I did. Once that's fully wiped down and sufficiently dried, the beeswax mix (includes carnauba, which is rather awesome stuff) puts the finishing protective sheen on the furniture. I'm decently amazed how much more gloss appeared on my furniture after this. Tip: let a thin coat dry before buffing. Don't glob it on or you'll spend too much time attempting removal. Overall, most anyone with a little patience can do this. I went overboard cleaning the inside of the dresser drawers, which had likely never been done, and this piece is now proudly in our bedroom, looking vastly different but without destroying the patina. I think it enjoyed the massage and makeover! ... show more

  • My furniture looks ten times better
I use the mahogany to refresh my old door. Howard restoration kit made my doors look new again. I use one can for three doors. Great value for the money.

  • Worked great! Really happy!
We have an older kitchen that really needs a remodel, but it's not in the cards right now. This was a really great and affordable refresh for the cabinets. I went for a slightly darker oak, 'dark oak' worked great on our warm wood oak cabinets. It's hard to see in the pictures but it really cleaned up the white spots on the cabinet doors (which are wood) and covered the nicks above the doors (which is only pressed wood). I was really impressed the pressed wood took up the color very well. It just really warmed up the color and shined up the cabinets. I think with some new knobs this kitchen will last a few more years. Highly Recommend! ... show more

  • A great product!
This product performed exactly as advertised. I bought an antique dresser that had a few scratches and quite a bit of damage to the finish along the bottom of the front. This product restored the dresser as good as new.
