Description

Store dinnerware safely in this cotton canvas dinnerware storage chest from Household Essentials. This chest is designed to hold 12 salad plates with a maximum diameter of 9 inches each. It is tan in color with chocolate brown piping and the front panel has a clear see-through window to allow the contents to be seen. I love these boxes. They are sturdy, stackable and attractive. Unfortunately, I had to return some of them b/c they did not fit in the space I have for them & I agree with other reviewers that the listed sizing is a bit hit or miss. So, I'll list some examples of what did and did not fit. Salad Plate Storage Chest: Rimmed soup/pasta bowls - 9" in diameter - when I put them in the Salad Plate Storage Chest - the bowls touched all 4 sides and made the box bulge a little. Probably would be fine, but my wedding china is platinum rimmed, so I decided not to take a chance. I used this size box for my 8 1/4" Salad Plates - which left plenty of room on the sides, but not too much where they would slide around excessively. The next size up is the Dinner Plate size - which fit my 10 3/4" dinner plates perfectly with right amount of room on the sides, but i thought they were too big for my rimmed soup bowls. I could have padded around the bowls w/ some bubble wrap and that would have been fine. It's a judgement call. Stemware storage chests: Ok, this is where I had to spend a little time testing sizes. The sizing & description of the boxes & inserts were a bit confusing - even having read many of the reviews & measuring my stemware before purchasing. My suggestion is to forget the listed "glass name" of the box and focus on the measurements. For instance, my Red Wine crystal fit in the "Goblet" box, but not in the "Balloon Wine" size, etc. I'll use Waterford Marquis Vintage crystal stemware for reference sizes. I'm listing what I measured, but if you want to look up for the exact measurements, I've listed their product name. Also, I bought 1 of each size stemware storage chest so I could play around with them to see what fit. I'm glad I did. I ended up returning a couple and ordering more of a different size. Goblet storage chest: Fit my Full Body Red Wine (also fits White Wine & Iced Beverage - see my notes below). Full Body Red Wine - base 3 1/3", bowl diameter approx 3 1/2"- 3 2/3", height 8 3/4". About 1" to spare on the top & room to spare on sides and top. As I mentioned, these did not fit in the "Balloon Wine" storage chest - the width of the bowl did not fit in the dividers at all - even alternating the bowls facing up & down - just too tight. Champagne flute storage chest: This size actually fit my champagne flutes, white wine & footed iced beverage goblets. Vintage Flutes (champagne) - base 2 3/4", bowl 2", height 9". There's space on the sides and the top of the rim is *just* below the top of the box, but it closes with out touching the rims, so it's perfect. Vintage Classic White Wine - base 3", bowl 3", height 8 5/8". Space on sides and top. Note - this also fit in the Goblet storage chest - but had lots more room to spare on sides. Again, it's a judgement call, but I opted to use the champagne size box as it had less "play" on the sides and it was a little cheaper than the Goblet size box. Vintage Iced Beverage - base 3", bowl approx 3", height 7". Space on sides and lots on top. Note - this also fit in both the Goblet & the Balloon Wine storage chests - but had lots more room to spare on sides. Again, it's a judgement call, but I opted to use the champagne size box as it had less "play" on the sides and it was a little cheaper than the Goblet and Balloon Wine size boxes. ... show more

I have several sets of China dishes that I inherited and have expanded my collection over the years. These are my favorite storage containers: - they are square and fit shelving better than round ones. You can stack on top of the item if it is not heavy. -provide adequate protection if stored on secure shelving -have a window to see which dishes (style, size) are in the container Lastly, you can label the outside to give further clarification as to the contents. My Christmas dishes were purchased at Target several years ago. They are quite sturdy and would make for great every day dishes except for the Christmas pattern on the rims of the larger plates and the very festive "Eat, Drink, and Be Merry" text along the rims of the dessert plates. Since kitchen storage space is at a premium in our household, I finally decided to solve the problem by ordering plate storage chests. I went with the red and green chests because, like with the boxes I use for Christmas ornaments, I love the festive vibe when I pull them out of storage. The storage chests are the perfect size for my dinner and dessert plates ( ordered one of each size). The dessert plates hit all four walls, but don't push past them. The dinner plate chest has plenty of room around the plates, which is where I'm storing the holiday napkins, table runner, and table cloths. There are 12 felt dividers that come with each storage chest. They are just slightly smaller than my plates, so they're perfect for separating them preventing them from clanging against each other when the chest gets moved around. While the chests do ship folded flat, I feel like they are pretty secure once assembled. I'm not going to be walking a long distance holding this by its handles, but I trust that it's going to protect my plates until next year. And I like that there is a window on them so I don't get them mixed up with my ornament storage chests. Although it's not an issue for me, buyers do need to be aware that these are probably not sturdy enough to stack (not even one chest on another) because the sides are supported by covered cardboard and would likely collapse over time if heavy weight were placed on top of them. ... show more

I like that you can see through the window so you can tell what you are looking at and I like the handles, although I probable won't use them while being carried. They have felt in between the plates and there was room for me to put more then twelve plates. It is sturdy and I like that the package3 is square instead of a circle. ... show more
