IRIS 585172 Modular Supply Case, PVC-Free ,Large,10 Pack, Clear

I ordered a 10 pack of the IRIS Small Modular Supply Case (Clear). The size is great for storing electrical parts on narrow shelves. They stack well and the catch keeps the box closed and is easy to open. The problem and the reason for the 3 stars is that there is either a design flaw or manufacturing problem with the "living hinge" design on the box. Out of the first order of 10, 5 boxes all had a failed hinge on the left looking from the back of the box. Amazon sent a replacement shipment. Out of those, 4 had a failed hinge (on the left). So out of 20 boxes, 9 had the same failure of the left hinge. In my opinion, this is a manufacturing flaw in one of the molds or a design that has little tolerance for variance in manufacturing conditions. If it is a manufacturing issue, I find it odd that 40-50% of both shipments had boxes with an identical problem. Either there is not a good QA process or the failures are being intentionally mixed. I contacted Amazon hoping my concern gets passed on to IRIS. See the attached photo for the problem. I will try an order of the medium boxes. Hopefully the mold/design flaw did not carry over to that design.

These are a $2 case so one or two broken hinges would have been no big deal. But eight of them broken right out of the box is just not right. I had to return them. These would have been a great product otherwise.

I ordered these in October. Now 5 months later I'm posting my review. I'm an art teacher for K-8. I got these for my school and loved that they were clear and the perfect size for the colored pencils. (I labeled table numbers on them so that each table would be guaranteed to get their pencils back.) At this school I work 3 days a week. That being said... they're all on their last hinge or the top is completely separated from the bottom. I will most likely use duct tape to fix them, but I'm not happy with the overall quality of the hinges. At first I thought the kids may have been rough with them, but now all of them are broken at the hinges. I have 3 that I use for material storage in my closet, they are perfectly fine. EVERYDAY USE IS NOT GOOD FOR THESE. I had ordered because of cost, size, stack-ability and because they were clear. I liked them very much until they (with regular use) started breaking.

I bought these to store 5” squares of fabric. They are advertised as 5.08” length by 5.25” width, but are approximately 4.5” square so not useable as intended. The quality seems fine if you are not looking to store something 5x5, you should be happy.

I got these to store some of my sets of mini cone threads in both all purpose polyester and embroidery thread and they're working out great! Depending on the size and shape of the mini cones, i.e. 500 meters, 600 meters, 1000 meters, etc), I can fit 20 to 40 in one container. I use a Brother P-touch to label the containers on the tops and the ends. I also like that these come in a 10-pack so I can organize several different things in various areas of the home.

There's the low end $1 plastic pencil boxes that break at hinge and then there's the super-expensive thicker plastics for hard-core crafters. I would say this is in the middle. I use to store my kid's puzzles, small toys and made first-aid kits for our cars. It stacks neatly (not sliding around), the tab on the front makes it easy for them to open, the flat surface easy to label, I've had no issues with any of the hinges tearing or breaking. I know it's just plastic boxes, but these little things matter. It "clicks" when closed, not watertight obviously, but my kids use them every day and they've held up well.

I was looking to organize supplies for our office/craft room and these were perfect! I wanted something that would fit rulers and most containers do not. We have a lot of crayons, markers, office and artsy supplies and these hold a ton. They stack very well and fit in a 13x13x15 cube organizer perfectly giving no wasted space. They were exactly what I was looking for.

I needed some plastic containers to help organize my beading supplies. These containers are a perfect size for what I need. My concern is not with the thickness of the plastic -- I think that is very nice. What I am concerned a bit about is the latching. Beads can get heavy, and I can see where it would be possible that the latch could come undone due to the weight. For my lighter-weight supplies, I have no issue -- I think the containers will work well. It's only my heavier supplies for which I am unsure. In any case, I am pleased enough with my purchase.
