  • I bought both Bluetooth and knob controlled units
Size: 300W - 6 Foot Cord
I actually bought both the Bluetooth version and the one with the knob. The one with the Bluetooth is hard to connect to unless you are in just the right spot and very close, but it’s really nice to be able to set the temp, as long as it can stay connected to Bluetooth long enough for you to set the temp. However, the Bluetooth one seems to shut off and on a lot. Seems to be when the area is close to the set temp. Not sure what that adds to the electric bill at this point and it does make it harder for the dog to acclimate to it. The one with the knob (no Bluetooth) does shut off at some point if the temp exceeds a certain point. And I have not found anything around it overly warm even if I forgot to turn it to low when the ambient temp got higher for a couple days… The thing that could be improved is the location of the knob. Of course that opens up the possibility for chewing and measures would have to be taken for that scenario, but the knob being in the top, where it’s going to be higher in your area, probably close to the top, it is hard to be able to see what you have the knob set to. So make sure you can see the knob because just turning it doesn’t click or anything to indicate where you are in the heat level. Both could have a slightly stronger fan, no louder…. Both could have a better metal sleeve for the cord, but the cord should not be accessible to the dog(s) anyway… But they do work…. They do give me piece of mind they aren’t freezing to death and I do not see these ever being able to catch anything on fire. I am very happy to have an option for the previously abused dog I cannot get in the house and the dog that can’t be freely around two of my other dogs yet. She’s an older dog that was abandoned in late fall so I haven’t had time to work with her and fear the weather and temperature in the mean time… ... show more

  • So far so good
I received and installed this last weekend in a 22 cubic feet well insulated feral cat house. So far it has done a really good job of heating the house. I did have an entrance and exit that were left open and when the night time temperatures varied from a high of 20 to a low of -3 F. the house stayed near 40. We are now in a bitter cold snap when the wind chills are dipping the temperatures to -20 and below. The cats love the heat source so I decided to block one of their exits with insulation and see how much of a difference it made in temperature. It really warmed things up. The night it was -3 outside, I had to crank the heater up all the way and it was around 40 inside. Once I blocked the exit ( still leaving a 7 inch x 7 inch opening) the temperature on high jumped to well above 70. I was able to turn it down to medium and it is still above 60!!! My only complaint is the temperature dial. It is somewhat hard to read. The cover on the dial doesn't stay open on its own so you need to hold it open while turning the dial. I also wish the top heat plate was a bit longer to push more of the heat downward. The cat house has a top lid that opens up and whenever I open it up, there is always a blast of heat. It does give me complete piece of mind to know that the cats are warm and out of the wind. Before the hound heater I was using a light bulb in a light socket covered with a tin can that had holes poked in it. It worked well, but I had to use a black light so that it wasn't so bright. I also worried about the light bulb burning out and not knowing it. The true test will be in a few days when the night time temp dips to -14 and the wind chills go to -30 or below. I will update then with temperature readings. Updated January 29, 2014. The past 2 nights have been bitter cold. The temps have been -15 and wind chills -25 to -30. The temps inside the insulated house with a 7"x7" opening never dropped below 35! The cats stayed very comfortable. I did have to turn it up to high. Tonight it is 14 and windchill -10 and on high it's 59 inside!!!! Just love this heater. Another update: March 26, 2014: Winter does not want to let up here in Central Ohio. Last night it was 13! My 2 ferals have been the happiest cats ever all winter long. The heater has worked better than ever and provides them the warmth needed. Most of the time, I can set the dial between medium and low and it's at least 50 inside. I am so happy to have found this awesome product. ... show more
