  • Died after less than 2 years of infrequent use!
Color: Black Gold
Item used less than a dozen times & the motor started cutting out & going extremely low & not drying anymore. I never used it for long periods of time & stopped it after about 30 seconds of use to try to prevent it from overheating. When it worked it was great but not worth it to have to replace every 2 years. I still have a similar device from the 70’s that actually still functions normal, I just wanted something new! What a joke if an over used 70’s drier still outlasts this item from 2020. It’s a joke! My daughter’s exact same version but the Revlon brand which is older than this one & heavily used & still functions perfectly. I’ll use the Revlon instead! ... show more

  • How does this compare to. . . you know . . . THE OTHER one that everyone talks about?
Color: Black Gold
I looked into purchasing a one step dryer/volumizer brush during the quarantine as a way of having an easier way to style my hair. To give you an idea of what I am working with, I have A LOT of hair and it is very thick and I had a longer length that is now a long bob. It's naturally wavy, so I usually blow dry and then straighten or curl to style. I was curious to try this one by Hot Tools and then also wanted to try the Revlon black/pink one. I purchased both wanting to compare them. With washing my hair, towel drying it for 10-15 mins (per the directions), I then parted my hair down the middle, and then was able to compare them LITERALLY side to side. First, both brushes look very similar, if not having the exact same design on the outside and in fact, I think they are of the same manufacturer. I think the Revlon comes in a few different colors like pink or turquoise as an option and for Hot Tools I just silver and black (at the time I ordered). That's the only difference that I visually saw, so if either company had any requests or changes were made, it was probably done on the inside. Drying my hair, they both seemed to work well and efficiently. Using either brush, my normal drying time was cut in half, so I was pleased with that. The main difference that I noticed? This will sound kinda funny, but while both brushes are marked with the same settings, the Hot Tools brush seemed to produce an higher temperature of heat overall as I adjusted the mode. Now, you would think that the increased heat would mean the Hot Tools brush worked faster and would make my hair more sleek, but to be honest, it didn't work faster or more efficiently than the Revlon one. ALSO, because the heat was increased, this actually made working with the Hot Tools one more difficult to work with because I could actually feel it begin to get extremely hot next to my scalp and the back of my neck to the point that it would actually hurt and I would stop so that I wouldn't burn myself! With the Revlon volumizer (which still gets hot, of course) I could still use it and was able to curl it under and hold it in place for a brief moment which made it easier to use when it came to styling. Towards the end, the Revlon side looked more smooth, sleek, and was more thoroughly dried and I actually used it to finish the side that I originally used the Hot Tools on. Then considering that the Revlon one was only half the price of the Hot Tools one, it was so clear which one I was going to keep and which one was going to be sent back. To make a long story short - this Hot Tools brush is incredibly similar to the popular Revlon one, but the increased higher heat temperature makes it more difficult to work and style with, and is not as fast or efficient as the Revlon brush. It's not horrible or awful, but I can't believe how better the Revlon one works and it's half as much money! I can't speak for everyone, but for myself, I'm glad that I went with the Revlon brush. I saved myself some money and also protected myself from potential burns lol. ... show more

  • I threw out my regular blow dryer! So easy to use even for a hair novice like myself!
Color: Black Gold
LOVE THIS! I can barely dry my hair with a blow dryer, I just dry my hair upside down and then straighten it that’s about the best of my abilities. my hairdresser and my sister both told me to try this out and even though I warned them I am really bad at doing my hair by myself. Well after using this twice I put my hairdryer and straightening iron in storage bc this thing is AMAZING! I am able to look like I just got a blowout all by myself! SO easy to use, dries quickly (but not too quick, you can change the heat setting)! Great product! ... show more

  • Great tool for thick hair!
Color: Black Gold
Love how my hair looks after using this tool. It typically takes me 45 minutes to dry my hair with a round brush and dyson. When using this tool, I get my hair to about 90% dry with my dyson and then use the the brush dryer as a finishing tool. It does get very hot so I don’t use it as a way to dry my hair from the beginning. Also use a heat protectant! When doing this method it takes me 25-30 minutes to dry my hair. And is silky smooth! I will say that the brush dryer stopped working after about 16 months. However I reached out to Hot Tools (Helen of Troy) customer service (who were fantastic) and they sent me a brand new one even though I purchased from Amazon. 🙌 ... show more

  • Hotbrush, how do I love thee?
Color: Black Gold
Let me begin by saying I'm a hot mess when it comes to doing my hair. The mystical interactions of brushes and blow-dryers have eluded me for most of my life. Wrangling both these tools of wizardry are beyond my meager capabilities. On top of this, my hair refuses to decide which way it would like to curl. One side respectably curls under, while the back flips out like it's 1965 and we just scored a groovy pair of gogo boots, whilst the right side apparently got all the curly hair genes the rest of my head was denied. This gizmo removes the biggest reason for failure: skill. Can you plug thing in? Can you brush your hair? Good, you're going to look fabulous. I used it on both my hair (fine, mid length, colored, defiant) and my husband's (thick af, waist length, wavy) and it worked great. It didn't quite straighten his hair like I would have liked, but he also started complaining about how long it was taking because he's like a wriggling 5 year old. Obligatory tips and cautions: - read the directions. You won't die, I promise, and you'll save yourself some trouble. - If you've got fine hair like mine, use the low setting, like the directions say. Otherwise you could fry your hair. - this thing is hot. That's why it's called a hot brush. Heat burns things like your skin and hair. If you keep moving it, your hair/skin won't get as hot and won't burn. I think it's pretty self-explanatory and people shouldn't need to be told this but reading the reviews, I guess not? 🤷♀️ - use some sort of heat protecting product. These probably do nothing, but it makes me feel better about my life and it's 2020. You really want to take any unnecessary risks? Pros - easy to use all in one - black, like my soul 🖤 - I no longer look like a vagrant Cons - could be super annoying if you have a ton of hair and are an inpatient type ... show more
