I am going to start off by saying, if you purchase this item, check the lock mechanism FIRST, ecause chances are high that it may not work. I first purchased this straightener on August 18th,2022, received on the 20th opened the box, tried it out a few times and noticed the lock feature failed. Slid it into the lock posting on and it popped right open. I contacted Amazon immediately and they graciously replaced it. I then received the replacement, the first think I checked without taking it out of the plastic was the lock feature and SURPRISE! that lock didn’t work either. I proceeded to contact Hot Tools about this flaw in the manufacturing of their product and rep ( who acted as if she couldn’t care less) told me to contact Amazon and there was nothing they could do. What is Amazon going to do about their manufacturing mistake?!? So I contacted Amazon to return the replacement and again Amazon made it right, sent me a label for the return of the replacement and refunded my money. Don’t bother with Hot Tools customer service as they are useless and disappointing. The price now is 10.00 cheaper that when I originally bought it on August 18th. 🤔 If you are buying any styling tools, always purchase the extended warranty and save the box. Now for the better part of the review. I have been a big fan and have purchased many of their styling tools. The longer plate is great, especially if you have longer hair, better for the beach waves/curls. Nice length to the cord, which is a swivel. Heats up fast. Now to my so-so part of the review. The fact that they changed these to plastic from the former rubber like texture is the Achilles’ heel. The “rubber”, though at first was a great feature, over time became very sticky to where my hair was sticking to it, hence me grabbing this model. With the updated plastic, no more sticking and it was much easier to style my hair as it slides through much easier. I will say that I did notice that the plastic did get quite warm (more than with any typical straightener), as the plastic may be too thin and because the plate is longer.🤷🏻♀️ I guess if the locking feature isn’t a big deal to you and if you can get it for 39.00 as opposed to the 49.00 I paid, I say go for it. It would be worth the price, just make sure that you get the extended warranty. ... show more

    • Sticks horribly if you try to curl with it - but a cheap modification makes it better

I bought this for travel due to the dual voltage, compact size, and locking mechanism. If I just wanted completely straight hair, it would probably be okay, but I usually curl the ends of my hair with my usual flat iron. Trying to curl with this thing makes it stick to my hair so badly that it’s impossible. It just alternates bent and straight. I have long fine hair without much texture and have never had a problem like this with a flat iron before. I’ve tried adjusting my technique but no luck. I regret not returning this. UPDATE: It turns out the iron clamps too tightly. I added a piece of mounting tape (the one inch square foam tape that's about 1mm thick) in between the handle down by the controls so it won't get too hot. This keeps it from clamping as tightly and sticking. It's still not as good as my old Solia, but it's good enough for travel. ... show more

Although it's advertised as xl, it was really awkward to use. In order for the hinge action to properly work, the hand placement is way too far from the center of gravity of the straightener. I have child like hands and couldn't comfortably hold and press down the iron in an efficient way without using too much effort. So first off I want to say I did not get this for free.After purchasing i realized alot of the reviews were the same im going to be completely honest I got this to replace my Remington straightener which was 25 dollars at Walmart I expected alot more out of this Hot Tools straightener I have always loved there products so here is my pros and cons list.. Pros- -I love the look -It heats up so fast -Swivel cord is a really nice touch Cons- -The plates do not touch -because the plates i have to go over the same piece multiple times -It feels like it is going to fall apart the top part slides back and forth I would say its worth buying just not for this price ... show more
