  • Horizon Zero Dawn: if you love story driven games stop reading and just buy it.
Platform: PlayStation 4 Edition: Complete
Absolutely one of the greatest games of the generation. Without a doubt it is the best and most original story written for this generation. I am one of those rare gamers that value above all a solid story. It is then easy to understand that I have been missing games like this because apparently a story driven game is not among the highest things in the wishes of most gamers. Horizon Zero Dawn is right there in the top of the generation for me, with The Witcher III. I am really hoping that I love THE last of Us part II even a little as much as I liked the first, because again, there are quite a few enjoyable games in this generation but just a Few with a decent story. Three or four with a very good or better one. Horizon Zero Dawn is for me, the best story and the greatest narrative in a game in a very long time. I didn’t play the game in my PS4 Pro, but even in the regular PS4 the graphics are also amazing. Mechanics are good and fighting is challenging but having recently finished Nioh (the greatest fighting game I have ever played), and being currently playing Sekiro, I should say fighting is decent in the game, even good, but it is not the most remarkable Thing in the game. Play this one for a great, deep, Engaging, original story. It develops in a lush, vivid, open world where you will find incredible adventures along the way. I started The Frozen Wilds Expansion and couldn’t go past the first 30 Minutes because life got in the middle. I will try to post here about it when I finish it. My top single player campaigns of the current gen; 1.- Horizon Zero Dawn and The Witcher III. 2. Nioh. 3. Spiderman 4. Metal Gear Solid V : The Phantom Pain. 5. God of War. I am not a huge fan of RPGs, but the great story of this game and the incredible open world and great, natural progression of The Witcher III make them The two greatest games of this gen so far. , in my Humble opinion. This games sells so cheap these days that I can tell you that if you like story driven games, these could be the best 12uSD ever spent in a video game. I got mine for 10 and those were by far the most enjoyable 10 I have ever spent in a video game and probably the best 10 period. Just get it, play it and be delighted. ... show more

  • Best game I've played in a while
Platform: PlayStation 4 Edition: Complete
This has to be my favorite IP of this generation of games. I'm normally the type of person to either finish only the main story line, or get bored and stop playing before I even finish that. This game, however, drew me right in. Not only did I beat the main story, I also collected all of the lore, finished all of the side quests, finished all of the DLC quests, got all of the best gear, finished all of the challenges, and at least got partially through NG+. What makes this game so fun? For me, it was the fast paced hunting of giant machines and the depiction of a distant future where humans live in primitive societies intertwined with ancient technology that they can barely begin to understand the true power of. I loved watching Aloy gain an understanding of the world and the ancient technology. Throughout the game, she learns more and more about the old world, what happened, and how all of this technology works. By the end, she is casually making conversation with AIs that many believe to be Gods. Listening to old recordings left by the ancients is chilling, relaying personal accounts of people's lives before, during, and after the sudden and unforeseen apocalypse as they race to try to save mankind in an unexpected way. Another honorable mention is the inventory management and crafting system, which I found to be very accessible and useful. There are many different options for you to choose from, but not so many to be overwhelming. And while you CAN spend all of your resources stocking up on all different types of weapons and ammunition, you can absolutely get by with just the simple bows and arrows, some stealth, and some skill. Upgrading gear is as simple as purchasing the next tier and socketing your gear with the glyphs that suite the weapon and your play style best. Eventually you can get a skill that allows you to unsocket items, which will come in great handy for experimenting with different builds in the late game. Personally I go full damage on hunter bow, full tear on sharpshot bow, damage/fire on tripcaster, maxed out stealth armor for anything out of combat or trying to sneak out of combat, and ancient armor during combat. While the game is not perfect (it does have a few bugs and weird animations), it managed to draw me in like no game has in a long time. 5/5 would recommend to my children ... show more

  • A Game That Was SO Ahead of It's Time
Platform: PlayStation 4 Edition: Complete
Man... I recently purchased this for my PS 5 after playing it some years ago on the PS 4. They re-engineered the game FOR PS 5 without adding to the exclusive capabilities, but honestly SOOO few games are using those capabilities yet you don't really miss it when you compare it to most of the other new PS 5 RPG type games. In fact, especially vis a vis story and visuals, it compares QUITE favorably with most of the "new" games developed for PS 5. The story line is engaging, the visuals are really good though the discerning eye will notice the (albeit slight) degradation from the textures and dead-on accuracy that some of the newer releases have. The game mechanics are very good, it has an excellent balance between the open-world content and the story-line specific stuff such that one doesn't distract much from the other, it's just a REALLY well thought out game that's put together well and plays well. I only rented it back then, it's available for such a great discount, and it's NOT one you're going to finish in a few hours. It does keep you coming back to it. One fascinating reality is that the AI in this game causes the mechanoid characters to "evolve" over time, depending on how you play against them. Very smart, and it causes an interesting challenge. They might become tougher if you just beat them down at first, but they won't evolve better detection capability, or the other way around IF you used a lot of stealth to avoid them in the early play of the game. Very smart indeed! I really hope they either re-do it expanded to accommodate all the extra possibilities of the newer platforms, or perhaps do a prequel version engineered to take advantage of all of them, with the excellent storytelling to go with it. ... show more
