  • My favorite PC controller
There are a few features this controller has that very few others do (especially for the price). 1. Full Steam Input support 2. Built-in gyro 3. Capacitive joy sticks Gyro is essential for precise aiming on a gamepad, and this has good enough gyro for that. The capacitive joysticks are the best gyro enabling feature, because the gyro only works when you're touching the joystick, so you don't have to have the joystick moving at all to activate it, or another button pressed. Full Steam input support is fantastic and works perfectly. It's a collaboration between Valve and Hori, so it has the Steam Button, quick access menu button, and a custom name and image for the controller when configuring it. There are a few cons that make this controller pretty bad if you don't care about the features I listed above. It doesn't have any haptics or rumble at all, it doesn't work on anything other than Steam (unless you use the included cable), the joysticks don't feel that great and the "analog" triggers might as well just be digital triggers with how incredibly short the travel is. Those cons are actually pretty bad, and you shouldn't get this controller unless you really want those Steam related features, but I have to give it 5 stars simply because it's the best Steam controller out there right now with a feature that literally no other controller has (capacitive joysticks), and it will hold me over until the real Steam Controller launches next year. ... show more

  • Solid controller from HORI don't let the bad reviews sway you.
As a PC gamer for well over 20 years I surprisingly own a lot of controllers. This is actually a pretty fair priced "Steam" branded controller by HORI. Build quality: Solid, controllers are tactile, no mushy feeling, analog sticks are smooth, no creaking, size feels similar to a Nintendo pro controller and weight feels similar to a slightly lighter Xbox controller. No rumble is probably the reason why it lacks heft. Usability: Designed to work well with the steam's controller ecosystem for customizability and key binding and hotkeying. It comes with a 10ft long USB-C cable and even a Bluetooth dongle so wired or wireless options work great! Sure you can buy an Xbox or Sony controller but the functionality of this controller makes me appreciate it even more as an owner of both an Xbox Elite Series 2 and a Sony Dualsense Edge. Overall great bang for the buck controller $60 is fair in comparison to the competition. ... show more

  • It's... okay.
The HORIPAD for Steam is an OK controller. It's lacking some basic controller features like rumble and as a result feels really light and cheaply made. The plastics used are pretty low-end as well, which contributes to this feeling. Overall, this makes the controller feel like it should cost less than it does, especially since the only real features it has over a standard controller are the capacitive sticks and motion controls, the latter of which is standard in much more premium feeling controllers that cost the same or less. The real issue, though, is the lack of wireless controller support in xinput mode. So if you come across a game where the standard Steam input mode fails to work properly (which happens in some older games), you have to go find a cable to plug the thing in - which is a real problem if you are using it on a dedicated PC connected to a TV running SteamOS/Bazzite/ChimeraOS, which is, of course, the main use case for this controller. The problem doesn't come up very often, but it has happened to me once already in less than a month, because the PC I am using this on was set up to run older games in the living room (like many SteamOS machines that are installed on Ryzen mini PCs are set up to do). That being said, it mostly "just works" in SteamOS, and it duplicates the controls of a Steam Deck flawlessly minus the touchpads (which see no purpose in actual daily use for me). The dedicated option button is really nice to have, rather than having to fiddle with the Home+A combo in the middle of a game. The sticks work fine, the buttons are not the most comfortable in the industry, but they work. So would I recommend one? Not really. Not for this price. I would wait for better options and live with whatever controller you have lying around in the meantime. SteamOS natively supports XBox, PS4, PS5 and Switch Pro controllers, it's not you don't have other choices. For this price, it just doesn't feel right to get 90% of a standard controller or 90% of the controls of a Steam Deck. ... show more

  • This is an amazing controller, for certain games
This controller is great! If you only play games like Fallout or Minecraft. Pros: This controller looks nice and works well, featuring a smooth, well-made layout, including a Steam button that works exceptionally well in Big Picture Mode, multiple modes, a USB-C port for charging that also supports wired connections, and back buttons for added functionality. If you need to record while playing on Steam, pressing the Steam button + up D-pad will start recording if toggled on. All of this works well in slower-paced games, but it's less effective in fast-paced games, like Call of Duty Warzone. Cons: The triggers are made a bit oddly on this controller, being wider and not very long or tall. The triggers hang a bit over the plastic shell, which can get your fingers pinched if you aren't paying attention to where your fingers are. The Thumbsticks are snappy and accurate, but can be quite loud if you have to move quickly with both sticks. The back buttons don't seem to actually be able to be configured in the Steam controller settings. The vibration/rumble mentioned doesn't seem to work at all, even when turned on in Steam. The controller feels cheap at times, being very light and having shoulder buttons that wiggle. Overall, this is an amazing controller for slower-paced games, having fully functioning buttons and switches, but with non-functional rumble. It struggles in fast-paced games, being loud, and sometimes hard to work with. Is it worth getting? If you can get it on sale for 40$ or less. ... show more
