  • My favorite PC controller
There are a few features this controller has that very few others do (especially for the price). 1. Full Steam Input support 2. Built-in gyro 3. Capacitive joy sticks Gyro is essential for precise aiming on a gamepad, and this has good enough gyro for that. The capacitive joysticks are the best gyro enabling feature, because the gyro only works when you're touching the joystick, so you don't have to have the joystick moving at all to activate it, or another button pressed. Full Steam input support is fantastic and works perfectly. It's a collaboration between Valve and Hori, so it has the Steam Button, quick access menu button, and a custom name and image for the controller when configuring it. There are a few cons that make this controller pretty bad if you don't care about the features I listed above. It doesn't have any haptics or rumble at all, it doesn't work on anything other than Steam (unless you use the included cable), the joysticks don't feel that great and the "analog" triggers might as well just be digital triggers with how incredibly short the travel is. Those cons are actually pretty bad, and you shouldn't get this controller unless you really want those Steam related features, but I have to give it 5 stars simply because it's the best Steam controller out there right now with a feature that literally no other controller has (capacitive joysticks), and it will hold me over until the real Steam Controller launches next year. ... show more

  • Solid controller from HORI don't let the bad reviews sway you. Solid controller from HORI don't let the bad reviews sway you.
As a PC gamer for well over 20 years I surprisingly own a lot of controllers. This is actually a pretty fair priced "Steam" branded controller by HORI. Build quality: Solid, controllers are tactile, no mushy feeling, analog sticks are smooth, no creaking, size feels similar to a Nintendo pro controller and weight feels similar to a slightly lighter Xbox controller. No rumble is probably the reason why it lacks heft. Usability: Designed to work well with the steam's controller ecosystem for customizability and key binding and hotkeying. It comes with a 10ft long USB-C cable and even a Bluetooth dongle so wired or wireless options work great! Sure you can buy an Xbox or Sony controller but the functionality of this controller makes me appreciate it even more as an owner of both an Xbox Elite Series 2 and a Sony Dualsense Edge. Overall great bang for the buck controller $60 is fair in comparison to the competition. ... show more

  • It's... okay.
The HORIPAD for Steam is an OK controller. It's lacking some basic controller features like rumble and as a result feels really light and cheaply made. The plastics used are pretty low-end as well, which contributes to this feeling. Overall, this makes the controller feel like it should cost less than it does, especially since the only real features it has over a standard controller are the capacitive sticks and motion controls, the latter of which is standard in much more premium feeling controllers that cost the same or less. The real issue, though, is the lack of wireless controller support in xinput mode. So if you come across a game where the standard Steam input mode fails to work properly (which happens in some older games), you have to go find a cable to plug the thing in - which is a real problem if you are using it on a dedicated PC connected to a TV running SteamOS/Bazzite/ChimeraOS, which is, of course, the main use case for this controller. The problem doesn't come up very often, but it has happened to me once already in less than a month, because the PC I am using this on was set up to run older games in the living room (like many SteamOS machines that are installed on Ryzen mini PCs are set up to do). That being said, it mostly "just works" in SteamOS, and it duplicates the controls of a Steam Deck flawlessly minus the touchpads (which see no purpose in actual daily use for me). The dedicated option button is really nice to have, rather than having to fiddle with the Home+A combo in the middle of a game. The sticks work fine, the buttons are not the most comfortable in the industry, but they work. So would I recommend one? Not really. Not for this price. I would wait for better options and live with whatever controller you have lying around in the meantime. SteamOS natively supports XBox, PS4, PS5 and Switch Pro controllers, it's not you don't have other choices. For this price, it just doesn't feel right to get 90% of a standard controller or 90% of the controls of a Steam Deck. ... show more

  • Would pair perfectly with a Steam Deck Would pair perfectly with a Steam Deck
I would rate this device an 8/10. Overall a nice, quality controller,. But slightly too expensive when competing against game pads like the GameSir Nova Lite at $25... The HORI device is very comfortable in the hands and all of the buttons and the D-pad have a nice feeling in my opinion . That along with capacitive thumb sticks, back-buttons, digital to analog trigger selector, gyro functionality and Steam integration justified the higher price for me despite the lack of a 2.4Ghz dongle which is usually no-go in my book. So far the Bluetooth has surprised me and only been a little flaky. They should release a 2.0 version with it's own dongle, include rumble, Hall Effect sticks & triggers (with a click-piint) add a couple small internal weights to increase the perception of quality and make the back-side texture feel more grippy and it could possibly be a bonified "unicorn" 10/10? ... show more

  • Solid Controller for those who don't wanna deal with Xbox Controllers
The controller itself is pretty nice and sleep. It feels comfortable enough for people who play either using an xbox or dualshock (like myself) and the battery life on it is solid. The thumbstick feel comfortable to play as well. The trigger buttons located on the backside feel more natural to hit than other controllers (such as the elite IMO) and I find myself using that in favor of the A button at times. Setup is easy as most windows computers will recognize it and work off the back. The wireless dongle or Bluetooth options are also both welcomed (though most anything should be Bluetooth anyway). The one thing I have had to get used to is that it is lighter than other controllers, but that isn't a bad thing really. All in all if you are looking for a good alternative for an xbox controller and don't mind vibration not being included then this is a good choice for you. ... show more

  • Low quality for high price
First off the controller feels extremely light and plastic like. I get the appeal at first of having a light weight controller but there's a fine line between heavy and clunky, and something so light it feels cheap. This controller leans heavily on the latter. $60+ for a controller that feels this way and doesn't even include a rumble pack is way over priced. Also the triggers are terrible. I like the idea of switching between analog and digital but when the triggers are so short that a tiny bit of pressure brings it to the end, every setting is basically digital when you can only push down so little. I'd rather spend this money on a proper controller that doesn't feel cheap. ... show more

  • Closest thing we have to a Steam Controller 2
Excellent controls, back buttons + four extra face buttons over a ps5/xbox gamepad. Biggest feature is the built-in gyro, which can be touch-activated by thumbstick sensors. Fantastic Steam compatibility. Build quality is good, but could feel better. Weight is light and grip texture is boring. Giving 5 stars because it is the only controller in its class, with the joystick touch-enabled gyro, which is now a must-have for any FPS gaming IMO. ... show more

  • Don't waste your money.
I hate this controller. I have had it for 6 months. The only reason it doesn't get 1 star is because it is well supported by Valve in Steam OS. It's Bluetooth is a joke. Cuts out constantly, making Gyro control a horrible jittery experience. The only way to fix it is to plug the controller in and bypass the Bluetooth. The cable is long, but I bought this for Bluetooth Gyro while my Steam Deck is docked. Six months in, the buttons half the time eat my inputs, and when they do take there is considerable lag. That's in spite of the fact that I only use it plugged in. 8 Bitdo and Flydigi controllers are getting official Valve support in upcoming Steam OS updates. Buy those instead. This thing is cheaply made. The four macros are nice, even if 2 of them aren't easy to reach, but there are better controllers out there that offer that. The touch capacitive sticks are okay. I wish more controllers would implement that feature, but this is drastically inferior implementation than that in the Steam Deck. Your finger has to be dead center of the stick for it to work. The Steam Deck is far more forgiving. There are better options at this price point. This really isn't worth what I paid. I have had other Hori products that I really enjoyed. Not this one though. ... show more
