  • The Unofficial Wired Steam Deck Controller 🎮
tl;dr: Most people seem to dislike this controller, albeit over lack of features such as rumble or a touchpads - or Bluetooth gyro input delays. Personally, I like it as a Steam Deck controller but I definitely wouldn't put it in the same league as the Steam Controller and might as well wait for the official one if you're in this boat. I wasn't sure how I'd feel about this controller since it wasn't an official Steam Controller and I personally exclusively use the Steam Controller with my Steam Deck as it's the only controller I've been comfortable using but surprisingly it actually has been a great alternative or maybe even a better companion to the Steam Deck in my opinion with how the buttons and joysticks are laid out. I do have to mention the Bluetooth/gyro issues, as these practically make this a wired controller unless you don't play FPS's or don't mind having a slight delay with gyro but it's a bit disappointing that they even released this controller in this state or to use their own proprietary adapter similar to the Steam Controller - which if I was comparing the delay it's definitely worse than the Steam Controller with Bluetooth if you're familiar with one. I am using this controller full-time now as a replacement to my Steam Controller's and I love having the capacitive touch on the joysticks similar to the Steam Deck, it makes it easier to switch between the different control layouts. I was needing a new controller, or to attempt replacing the joysticks on my Steam Controllers as they've been worn down to the nubs so this HORIPAD will do nicely. At least until Valve officially releases an updated Steam Controller 2... 😉 ... show more

  • It's alright
First impressions on this are mixed. On one hand, I like how it grips and how it works well with steam. The buttons are alright and the gyro is cool I guess. My main complaint is with the triggers. To be fair, I am more used to triggers with longer travel, but in driving games such as BeamNG.Drive, where precise throttle input is necessary, it doesn't do too well, as the input is either nothing, something, or everything. The controller does lack rumble features, but I don't mind. Some people do say the build quality feels cheap, but that's mostly due to the light build, which is either a good thing or a bad thing. Now, is it worth the $60? I think I would go for the Xbox controller if I had to choose between the $60 controllers, maybe worth $40 in my opinion. There are a few hardware/software limitations that are a bit annoying, such as the gyro lag when not connected via USB, but I am not sure if that is something that can be solved easily. But I do have to say, it looks nice, and I like how it functions as a primary PC controller. ... show more

  • Great controller for three months! Then it started a fire.
It was amazing for the three months it lasted! The gyro was stable as hell, and the sticks felt awesome, even if it felt a little cheap and plasticcy. And then it short circuited randomly, melted itself and the cord connected to it, and started a small fire, not only leaving itself useless, but leaving my office smelling of burnt plastic for hours. ... show more

  • Must have accessory for a steam deck
If you play your steam deck with a dock, connected to your tv, this is a MUST BUY controller. It has all the same buttons as a steam deck and I was blown away that this controller can wake up your steam deck or put it to sleep by holding down the steam button! This wasn’t expected and helps make the steam deck more like a viable alternative to other consoles. The steam horipad controller also provides gyro controls and have touch sensitive sticks(for the few games that use this feature). It can be used on a regular pc if you like but I wouldn’t buy it for that, this is best for Steam Deck because it’s designed for it. The only cons I can think of are there is no rumble and the controller feels very light and feels like a cheaper plastic than many others. Don’t worry though, the build quality seems very good and I like the feel of the controller in my hand, it’s very ergonomic. The sticks and buttons seem really good too, although the buttons are a little bigger than I’m used to. Don’t listen to reviewers on YouTube, you NEED this for your steam deck. The lack of rumble is not a big deal and this controller works so well with steam deck that you won’t want anything else! ... show more

  • Would pair perfectly with a Steam Deck
I would rate this device an 8/10. Overall a nice, quality controller,. But slightly too expensive when competing against game pads like the GameSir Nova Lite at $25... The HORI device is very comfortable in the hands and all of the buttons and the D-pad have a nice feeling in my opinion . That along with capacitive thumb sticks, back-buttons, digital to analog trigger selector, gyro functionality and Steam integration justified the higher price for me despite the lack of a 2.4Ghz dongle which is usually no-go in my book. So far the Bluetooth has surprised me and only been a little flaky. They should release a 2.0 version with it's own dongle, include rumble, Hall Effect sticks & triggers (with a click-piint) add a couple small internal weights to increase the perception of quality and make the back-side texture feel more grippy and it could possibly be a bonified "unicorn" 10/10? ... show more
