  • If you struggle with Joy-Cons, this is for you
Color: Midnight Blue Size: Blue Pattern Name: Controller
I've seen a few complaints about these controllers & felt compelled to share my own experience with them. It's 09/14/20 & I've had the midnight blue variant of the Split Pad Pro (not a great name imo but it works) for just a few days, but so far it's been worth every penny. I've seen reviewers claim the controllers DRASTICALLY drain the battery, which isn't really true. It's noticable, but yes. Joy-Cons have their own battery, the SPP does not, so it uses the Switch battery very very slightly more. I suppose to some people who already think the Switch battery doesn't last very long, this could be an issue, but it's truly not that noticable & certainly isn't "drastic". The size is excellent. It looks a bit goofy compared to how Switches typically look but it's a much sturdier grip all around. It makes the Switch quite a bit bigger in length, it cannot fit in my Zelda Switch case assembled with the SPP controllers. I've found they lock into the sides of a Switch much safer than Cons, I've had several in the past that started sliding off due to the uncomfortable awkward positions your hands & fingers have to navigate using them. For these, though? My biggish hands fit perfectly on just the controllers, with the Switch perfectly cradled in-between. The sticks & all buttons are larger & have a good feel. The grip is pretty decent, less slippery than a PS4 controller but doesn't have the heft of an Xbox controller. Luckily the SPP doesn't hinder the Switch from charging handheld to docked mode, which is great as well. Now onto the "bad". As most people should already know, these controllers don't support HD rumble, NFC scanner, or gyro controls. I'm a huge advocate of gyro controls, I always leave motion on for games like Splatoon 2 or Breath of the Wild. While I wish there were an option to have my beautiful SPP have that capability, it's unfortunately not possible for now. I don't miss the HD rumble that badly but there's only maybe 6 Switch games out of the 100+ I own that even utilize the gyro. It's easy enough to just dock it & pull out my Pro Controller (not SPP), which can pull off the motion stuff or scan amiibos. Something reviewers don't mention very often is there's no button mapping option in the Switch settings like there is for other official Nintendo controllers. You can do it manually, though. There's also turbo buttons if you're into that, but I've never been a fan. Minimal complaints, a fine product. I may never use Joy-Cons ever again! Love the Split Pad Pro! Maybe future models will get gyro controls one day, fingers crossed! ... show more

  • Great for big hands! Love the Turbo Buttons.
Color: Midnight Blue Size: Blue Pattern Name: Controller
I love my Switch but these made them even better. I do not like the controllers that come standard with the switch mostly because they are tiny in my hands. I don't think of my hands as big but I always worry I am going to drop the thing. In comes the Hori Switch pad and bang these things are huge! They take a little getting used to because it makes the Switch seem really long but it oddly feels great like I am holding a newspaper and reading and fit nicely on my lap. The turbo buttons help although a bit awkward to set up but great for certain games where you have to smash the same button a zillion times. There is also a button on the back you can program. . . but honestly I don't use it. I can't seem to find a time when I would use it. Maybe in MH Rise but I am too used to doing things a specific way that making it easier somehow makes it feel harder... Totally makes sense! The only three things I don't like are . . . 1. It is really light, which makes it feel cheap. But helps with the switch as a whole feel lighter. Which is nice but still makes them feel cheap. 2. No battery, it feeds off the switch itself for life so sadly it also kills the battery life a little faster. 3. No vibration function, so games that you might use the vibration to tell you when a fish bites or something. . . well now you gotta eyeball it lol. I didn't feel that these things ruined it enough to make me lower it rating wise because the price is really good for what it does and for those added features it would probably push the price point a lot higher. And although I would pay those prices, I think it was a worthy sacrifice for a cheaper product that does all the thingies! And if you stare at the price of the tiny switch controllers that do the other thingies that come with the Switch. Well that might help you come to the same conclusion I did. Hope this info helps! Take care and be safe! ... show more

  • Much more comfortable than regular joycons, but they have some downsides.
Color: Midnight Blue Size: Blue Pattern Name: Controller
The good things are that they feel a lot like Xbox One controllers, they're super comfortable, have concave analogue sticks and an actual d-pad. The programmable paddles are neat too, although I haven't really found a use for them. The downsides are that they aren't wireless so they can't be used in docked mode (unless you buy their wired adapter), they don't have any motion sensors or rumble, and they aren't very heavy so it feels really light and cheap. They also have these long, weird plastic pieces near the triggers. If you use a case these won't fit because of those things, and they left scratch marks on my switch casing. Something important to note about the programmable buttons are they they can only be programmed to a button on the same joycon, so you can't program the left button to a button that belongs to the right joycon. ... show more
