However, in the evening, assuming you want to go to sleep in a few hours...you want to limit your exposure to bright, white light for all the reasons mentioned above. It suppresses the natural production of melatonin in our body. Instead, we want to signal to our body that it's time to wind down for the day and get ready for sleep. In the event that we need lighting in the evening hours, ideally we want to switch over to a warm, low color temperature (1600K) light which lacks blue/white light. In short, to be awake and alert, we want bright white/blue light. To get ready to sleep, we want darkness or dimly light, amber colored lighting. Sturdy, lightweight, extremely long battery life if used on a dim setting (like for reading before sleep). I really wanted an extremely dimmable light with red-light capabilities and portability, and this item absolutely checks all those boxes. I use it on a music stand to light up sheet music when I am practicing in the evening and I don't want to turn on a bright ceiling light. My new favorite booklight! This thing saved my marriage. I love to read at night, and my husband is very sensitive to light when trying to sleep. My blue light booklights and even some of my "amber-ish" ones were not cutting it for him so I went looking for a more red light version. I LOVE this light for the color options - amber is great, but the red is where it really lies. The red light doesn't seem very bright, but it really is plenty of illumination to read by. It doesn't bug him at all and he can easily sleep with it on. I love that I can increase the brightness on a scale and not just a "High medium low" brightness like my other lights. It clips well, the neck is easy to angle (some of my other lights look easy to angle but aren't flexible enough to hold a position), it doesn't heat up, it has a battery indicator which is a huge plus. The battery lasts several days without charging. This little thing will last me a long time! I'm so glad I found this specific model, it takes the best features of all my other lights and is perfect! ... show more

This seems to be a fine little book light. It has Amber LEDs, Red LEDs, and a way to turn both of them on at once for some reason. The light can dim if you hold the button down. It is a nice size in person, not too big or cumbersome. It seems to get bright enough for my needs and means no blue light right before bed. The people giving this one star saying it won't charge need to read the directions. You will need to have a simple, slower, 5v, 1 Amp USB charger to charge this. That is like the original chargers that came with older iPhones or something similar. If all you have now is fast chargers that expect to digitally negotiate the charging speed/voltage with a smart device on the other end of the wire, they simply don't work with this thing. So yes it does charge with a USB-C connection but no it can't be charged from most modern chargers. They put a piece of paper in the box telling you this. That is a little annoying just because if I am traveling I don't really want to carry a slow, older charger just for this thing. Chances are, most of us have a compatible charger in a junk drawer somewhere but it should probably be more clear that this needs an older, basic USB charger to work. At least they do throw in a USB-A to USB-C charging cable. ... show more

i love this book light! my previous one was white light and was too bright when my husband was trying to sleep. this one has 3 warm options that are dimmable. i love the red and amber the best, and was surprised that the red was so easy to read with.

This is a great light for reading before sleep. It doesn’t keep my husband awake but gives enough light to clearly read in the dark. I think it really does help me go to sleep faster using the red light. It clips easily to my book and the light adjusts to reach the entire book page.
