This is a well made and sturdy product. The only negative is that to remove the key it must be locked. I bought this for document safety from fire, not theft. I had intended not to keep it locked, but Honeywell felt it necessary to make that discission form me. I'm quite sure this lock could be easily picked if I were buying for theft security, so it almost laughable that it be kept locked. ... show more

I love how heavy this is, it can probably meet its claimed fire and water resistance. Note that the latches on the outside are plastic and hold the safe completely shut, but without the key you can still open these latches just enough for water to get in, so remember to close them! In a fire they would melt and leave a small gap into the safe, I'm not sure if smoke could then cause damage to the documents inside or not, but I'm adding a hose clamp around it just to be safe. The purpose of this safe is not security, the key is simple and only there for convenience. It can always be moved by the as there are no points to bolt it to the ground. But as a substitute for a safety deposit box it works great provided you have other home security measures. ... show more

Hi all, I am sure some of you are here due to Tik Tok. I personally wanted this product to store my valuable documents such as passports, IDs, birth certificate, cash reserve, etc in case a fire burned down my house. This should do pretty well for that I believe (especially for the price, will be a lot better than not having one). That said, I have a couple gripes: 1. The latches on the front are plastic. This is somewhat of a pain just because won't that plastic melt? I am not positive, but may be a wrinkle in the anti-fire plan. That said, the box is very heavy and can likely stay closed on its own I think? There is a pretty strong seal tool. 2. I think the latches to secure it closed are a little finicky when it comes to the mechanism, but at least it does seem like a very solid shut, so perhaps it is a necessity. 3. This is a personal one, but I wish it were a little more boxy and maybe easier to integrate with my current storage. Some nice features: 1. The weight is really nice, it feels strong. 2. The inside has a very nice lining, this along with the seal makes me feel good about my documents being inside. 3. The key mechanism is nice, no chance of locking your keys inside (I know we all don't think we'd do that, but there'd be a non-zero chance. With this product, that chance is zero). Is it worth it for you? Depends on what $50 is worth for you, but I would say if you don't currently have something for your uber important documents and you don't have any urgent bills this $50 could go to, then it's worth a buy since it should last a while. Disclaimer: My package seemed like it was opened. This is an amazon thing as of late, I feel they are passing refurbished as new. That said, I asked for a new one and the new one (and returned the old one) I got had a better box but was still open (main seal of the product) though the product was fine. This happened to other products from amazon too, so not a Honeywell problem, but my guess amazon. ... show more

It’s a good size for documents and small valuables. Read the manual and open it up every 2 weeks-1 month to avoid moisture building up to solve the main problem I’ve seen other reviewers mention.
