basically a nice, elaborately designed device that pretty much does what it's supposed to, but it's objectionably noisy and vibrates the floor. Probably great for a concrete floor, garage etc . and the noise and vibration easy enough to ignore as long as i'm busy working on something etc- but in my house its hard to clearly hear on the phone or even the TV turned up, with this in the same room, seems like it's take a couple hours to cool or (especially) to heat a room that's smaller than they claim it should cover, and the large amount of air it blows out can be disturbing -like having a large fan on all the time.. I'll probably use this a lot anyway-just not in the living room etc, - glad i didn't get one that's any noisier! ... show more

Fell short on cooling capacity

I can't speak on the energy efficiency level as it hasn't been run enough. I'm sure the fan mode is okay. When the compressor kicks in for the AC portion, it is loud and almost sounds broken. The remote worked the first 2 times used. Once to change the temp, the other to shut off. Hasn't worked since day 2. Unit lights up as acknowledgement to a button pressed but it doesn't work. Did not try new batteries or different angle for infrared path. Never tried the heat mode. Already had a unit by same mfg that works well. This unit cost twice that, but has the heater function. So far, not worth any of the $$ spent. Too loud and part of the noise sounds broken and don't want to use for fear of house fire. Can't tell if the delivery guys just threw it around (it is much heavier than other unit) and something is broken inside or if it is just poorly made. ... show more

BOUGHT THIS ($654.99 before taxes) to heat garage. Son has had one for 2 years, works for him. The "new and improved" model has circuitry that can not run longer than 24 hours without someone having to be present to set for another 1 to 24 hours. Secondly, manual does not specify that or other things like showing upper drain that is on unit I received. Turns out that upper drain is for de humidification only. Bottom drain is for AC and heating. Drains have well designed screw on caps but drains themselves are difficult at best to get any sized hose to seal well. Customer service confirmed the above and indicated bottom drain has small internal tank that holds about a cup. Unit is designed to shut itself off if water cannot get out. Well, heating and cooling generate a great deal of water so it requires catching water in an external flat pan or getting a hose to somehow connect well to the lower port if you want unit to run unattended for more than 15 minutes. The timer requires being home within 24 hours if you want/need the unit to run more than a day. I don't recommend this unit to anyone because the above design flaws make it not applicable for anyone. Amazon bumped the price from $654.99 before taxes to $913 a day later and now back to $680. This is a lot of money for such a poorly designed item. I expected the hassle of installation (5" hole in my garage wall and buying $50 water pump , tubing etc to get through my wall to a laundry tub) but not the poor design that makes draining difficult and no ability to have constant running time. UPDATE: Spoke with cust service re timer. Cust service advised that even though it doesn't say in manual ( they are having problems updating their manual) if you turn unit off (unplug) and then restart without touching timer button it will run constantly. RE: Drainage... I worked on this a bit more heating a 5/8" clear tube with a tubing screw type clamp and put a 3/4" lift (board under front casters) on front of unit. This helps with drainage. manufacturer could/should furnish a screw on hose... Price is currently $499.99! $55 less than I paid. Oh well. Update #2: had this 2 months today. Heats more the warmer the room is. ie: air output is much warmer the warmer the ambient room temperature. This unit would be good to make a 60 degree room more comfortable. Getting to 60 degrees not so much. Also upper temp setting does not shut unit off. Room was 74 degrees with upper limit set to 72 and unit was still pumping out 100 degrees plus at the port. ... show more

We got it and it works, but the hose actually broke. I'm not sure if the plastic part is supposed to be detachable, but it is, and it's also split. We only didn't return it because my husband said it's too heavy to take back to a shipping location. Very worried it was a waste of money but we'll see how it works. ... show more
