Reading reviews please be sure that the review matches the actual item. This Honeywell Portable 9100 BTU Up To 400 Square Foot air conditioner excels in every way. This room is about 310 square feet. It's open to the rest of the home and has 1 exterior door (in constant use) to the back patio & yard. Yes we have Dogs. It's the family room and gets used 24/7. This room is also the furthest room from the Central HVAC. I suggest that a purchase on these Units is always more square footage than stated by a least 15%. This unit is rated "up to" 400 square feet. That does not mean 400 square feet or more. It will used only seasonally. Installation was straight forward and took about 5 minutes. I put Gorilla duct tape, from Amazon, in areas as needed. Yes the exhaust tube has heat in it (dah) so I wrapped with silver colored sealed insulation sheet trimmed to fit and secured it garden twine for "easy to un-tie" seasonal use. $10 online. These are designed for floor usage & since cool air falls I set it on top of an end table to raise it to a functional height. To stabilize the seasonal use on the end table I again used Gorilla duct tape on 4 corner areas but to not block any areas of function. Do not use duct tape on wood. The ducts on this can be directed ~ BUT ~ to get maximum usage of the cool air flow I purchased a basic 18 inch Oscillating Pedestal fan - online, $40. We set the digital thermostat at 78 degrees. This unit has a very controlled thermostat - increasing and decreasing fan speed slowly. Constantly fooling with the thermostat defeats this function entirely. Final thoughts; don't assume that any portable A/C unit will work without common sense. This unit has zero faults ONLY because I took the time to think outside the box to get maximum usage. No portable A/C is Energy Star rated for obvious reasons. This Honeywell, w/blue trim, is a bargain especially if everyone installs it with thought and 10 minutes of common sense. Read, take notes, all the specs of all units on the market & you will quickly see that this Honeywell (9100 BTU/400 square feet) wins! Read all the directions and specs! ... show more

  • This AC is awesome.
Size: 1 Count (Pack of 1) Color: White/Blue
The media could not be loaded. Just like any product there will be people that don't use them correctly or complain about anything and once in awhile they do get a defective product. The unit I bought is for 400 Sq ft and use it for a 375 Sq ft area. It makes it cold quick. I live in a low humidity area where most days we have the windows open with box fans however on the days it reaches 80's and 90's we turn on our wall unit AC in the living room which doesn't cover the whole home. This honeywell AC easily covers the rest of the area. The design is nice, the size isn't overwhelming, it rolls around easily, and it is very quick to set up or take down out of the window. When the fan is on high yes you can hear it but not to the point of having to talk over it. Way quieter than a typical window AC unit. You will need to get some weather stripping which is very inexpensive. The piece that goes in the window is meant to fit not seal. I also read a one star review about it being 8.6 amps and it has to he plugged in to a single plug outlet. Most US homes have plugs rated at 15-20 amps. This simply means you can plug in the AC to any regular outlet just don't plug anything else in to the outlet at the same time. The unit also has a breaker switch on the plug. If you buy it immediately register the warranty and you're good to go. 10/10 would recommend. ... show more

  • It's good...for what it is
Size: Up to 400 Sq. Ft. Color: White/Black
I feel like a lot of reviews are unfairly maligning this product. Let's get a few things straight. Energy Efficiency Now, Portable AC units are NOT efficient. In fact, they are about the worst product you can actually use for AC in this regard. And single hose models are the worst. So no, if you have alternatives (if you can get a window-mounted model or central AC) you should NOT use this. However, a lot of people DON'T have thsoe alternatives due to landlord rules about unsightly small window-mounted units, being unable to afford the upfront cost of central AC etc., etc. Effectiveness No, this unit is NOT a good choice for somewhere that is hot most of the year and has extremely high humidity. Poor choice for Florida, Georgia, the entire Southern part of the United States that's along rivers and lakes and swamps. It's self-evaporating but the cold coils are going to cause condensation and that's going to overload it's ability to self-evaporate if humidity in your home is always 90%. This shouldn't be an issue at all if you are in AZ, Texas, Colorado, anywhere where it's dry in the summer since there's no moisture to condense, let alone overwhelm it's ability to self-evaporate. This unit CAN cool a hot room (or small apartment) down fairly rapidly and fairly effectively but the way it works lowers air pressure (since there's no air intake from outside) which will cause hot air to seep in from outside among other things. However it CAN get my apartment from 90 degrees down to 75 and hold it there pretty effectively which is what I need in order not to get heat stroke on the hot days in summer. No, I would NOT use this machine to cool from 120+ degrees to 60 degrees in Mexico, Death Valley, etc. But for a few hot days in Portland Oregon, San Francisco CA, etc, it's going to work fine. Actual Usage Actually using this device is a pleasure. Most of the time you're just going to use it like a demudifier. Set it to the temp you want, set the fan speed to what you want, and let it regulate. If like me you are dealing with an 80 degree small apartment and want to get it to 75, either connect a hose and run it as a demudifier all day, or get an external dehumdifier with a large tanka and run that all day while you are away at work. Then when you come home, turn on the AC and set it to the highest temp that's comfortable and lowest fan speed that makes you comfortable and enjoy the minimal noise and cool air. If on the other hand you run this sucker as low as temp will go as high as fan will go on the hottest weather possible it's going to get LOUD AND HOT. That's to be expected, it's the equivalent of running your car's engine at redline for hours. Will that cause it to break down? Will it cause it to get hot? YES! You don't need to be a genius to realize this! But in the real world in mild climate for occasional use using the intelligent minimal settings for comfort the unit works well. For Best Experience Get some insulating material and cover that hose! There's a few popular ones on Amazon that you can use, and the priciple is the same as a dryer or water heater insulator. You want the heat to go out the window not into your home so insulate that hose! Cost for a hose blanket is about $50 on Amazon but as others have pointed out this will pay for itself in increased efficiency. Yes, it would have been great if the included hose we insulted. But it's not. So buy your own. This device is more efficient running in spurts with fan on low/medium so don't use it for primary cooling in a very hot envrionment for months at a time as it's wildly inefficient and gets worse the heavier the load. Use it as intended for occasional use in mild climates set to lowest tolerable/comfortable settings. If you in the same room as the device, close the door so you are only cooling the room you are in, not "cooling the world". This is especially effective at night. Just close the door, set to a comfortable temp, and you're done. If you want extra direct line cooling point the fan directly at your bed and perhaps you can set the fan even lower and use even less energy. If it's a mild night turn off the AC completely and use the fan function pointed directly at you for even more energy savings. Overall The cost of this unit is HIGH. The cost to operate is HIGH. The effectiveness is...mediore. Good enough for casual ocassional use. NOT good enough for constant year-long workhose. For that you need an AC that's located OUTSIDE so the device heat is vented into the atmosphere not into your home. All that said, I consider it a good device. Good fan, decent noise, installation is okay, cooling power is good, not great. I'm glad I have it. Come September it's going back in the closet till next year. ... show more
