  • All great except for its geofencing
Almost a perfect thermostat. I like everything about it except how it's geofencing works. First the good stuff. I had a Nest thermostat for last 2 years. I didn't like it because the display only came on when you were near it. I wanted to be able to glance at it without having to walk towards it. I hated its control. Instead of a simple touch screen, it has this funky touch pad on the side of it with no tactile feel when you are on it. And in standby mode (when you got near it), it only would display the room temperature. With the X7B, the display stays on showing the temperature in the room, the temperature outside, and even the whether it's sunny or raining. It also shows the humidity inside and outside. The Nest required 2 AAA batteries while the X7B does not use batteries. Programming the X7B was easy and it gave me access to advanced features of my HVAC, include telling the X7B that I have a 2-stage HVAC unit. The X7B allows you to select from a few different displays. Now the bad things. Installing it was a little of a challenge due to the small footprint of the mounting bracket. My house has a metal box in the wall where the thermostat is to be mounted, but the X7B mounting bracket is smaller than the size of the metal box. I had to screw a metal plate over the box to mount the thermostat. The geofencing mode dumb. If you select this mode, it asks you to set up a schedule for when you're home and when you're away even though you already told it you're schedule when you're home! And the geofencing schedule only allows you to set the temp when you're home, when you're away, and when you're sleeping. It would have made much more sense to just tell it the temperature you want when you're away and then use the schedule you've set up for when you're home. The way it works now, makes geofencing nearly useless for me. I've called Honeywell to ask (complain) about this, but they said that's how it works for now. They MAY have an update to the app in the future to allow better geofencing capability. I still really like the X7B and it is a whole bunch better than the Nest, but very disappointed by their implementation of geofencing. ... show more

  • Don't bother. Customer service is pointless and made my bill higher!!! Should have stayed with nest.
Thermostat is worse the a Google nest !!! 2 weeks in its making my AC work over 18 hours a day!!! It's midnight and my house doesn't get past 75!!! Biggest waste of money!! Now I can't return it without the box. Biggest waste of money and regret buying this . Customer service is absolutely useless.

  • If I knew how easy and efficient this was, I' have done it sooner!
I had a basic honeywell unit and replaced it with this. The user interface is nice and easy to use. I got it to be able to set the temp from my phone with wifi. It has capabilities that actually allow me to set a geofence to tell it to adjust for when im home and when im away. I like that. My old unit didnt have the auto feature so I had to manually set it to heat or cool depending on my comfort. Which was a pain in fall and spring as the weather swings back and forth. This upgrade gives the feature to do that automatically. Being that I had the honeywell setup already, it was literally just remove the old battery operated thermostat and put this on the same exact wall plate. The power wire was already in place. The old unit was just battery powered and didnt use it. This unit does use house power. So no more battery changes. All in all, a great upgrade. The app is simple to use and the thermostat looks great on the wall. If you have the wall plate like in the Pic, then this is a direct plug and play set up. It also shows the one of the correct ways for the wiring. Theres a couple different setups for the wiring depending on your hvac type. I have a/c and a gas furnace. So the wiring in the Pic reflects where the wires should go for that. ... show more

  • So far so good; had to connect C-wire at furnace; no web interface for control
Finally got 2 of these installed but the C-wire adapters were backordered and never came, but I was able to connect the C-wire myself because the wires were there, just not connected to the furnace terminals. I guess not needing the adapter is a good thing. So far I really like the thermostat but it's still early. Make sure you configure it correctly. Our two gas furnaces are standard efficiency but I configured them as high efficiency at first (I was just guessing). The First Alert app that you use to control the thermostats seems to work well for the most part although I am disappointed that there is no web interface to control them like I could on my older Honeywell smart thermostats which also had a web interface for control. ... show more

  • Don’t spend $300 - this is amazing.
Very impressed with this thermostat - I spent a lot of time researching which one to get and I landed on this over the ecobee and google thermostat (I returned the nest smart thermostat) - I really like the functionality of the thermostat and the app works very well - I connected to WiFi easily, and connected to my Google hub and Google app easily as well. 10/10 would recommend - I also love the display and the info it shows **update** i read where some users had trouble with the thermostats accuracy… here’s my thermometer on top of the thermostat - pretty accurate id say. ... show more

  • Terrible Alexa support. Does not detect the thermostat, being sent back.
There was not a thourough setup when installing this. there was not way of setting it to heat pump. I had to go into advanced settings to set it to heat pump. app works great. Alexa will not detect the thermastat. Honeywell would not help and told me to contact alexa support. There is not alexa support. so it is going back. Maybe Honeywell should help a bit more so that they do not get returns. This was advertised to have full alexa support. but alexa will not detect the thermastat, says not deviced found. ... show more

  • Nice looking thermostat but customer support is not good
I really like this thermostat. It installed very easily, looks good on the wall, and integrates well with Home Assistant. That is where the positive ends. I noticed my house was feeling "chilly" in July. I kept turning up the temperature on the thermostat until it was at 78, and still felt cold (we normally keep it around 73 in the summer). I put a thermometer next to the thermostat, and it was 6 degrees off. I used another thermometer, same result 6 degrees off. Honeywell lets you adjust the temperature +/- 3 degrees, but 6 is not good. This is where Honeywell support comes in. They tell me that the thermostat measures ambient and radiant temperature so my thermometers are wrong. They also said Honeywell thermostats are not expected to be precise thermometers and are for bringing people comfort. Unbelievable. The support person then told me I need to have an HVAC technician look at it. Again, this is for a home HVAC system with 6 wires. I finally decided to return this. I understand that sometimes you get a bad product, but support like that from a company as big as Resideo is terrible. It is a shame since this is a very nice looking thermostat and does work with Home Assistant. ... show more
