It's noisy, but not noisy enough to interfere with a conversation, even at high speed. It's not unattractive, nor is it all that large, but it's meant to stand on the floor. It includes both the type of filter and the type of UV light that are known to trap and to kill, respectively, the Covid virus. It says it traps the virus that spreads Covid (to the extent it is sucked into the purifier), but there's nothing I could find to back up its effectiveness. Nevertheless we are pleased that we bought one, and we run it before we have guests, and while they are with us, in addition, of course, to avoiding dangerous situations and locations, wearing masks when we have guests (the guests too), washing hands well and often, and, to the extent possible indoors, social distancing. Does it really rid the room of any viruses that are in the air--we hope so, and were willing to spend $250 in the hope that it does. ... show more

This thing seems to clean the air just fine but is it very noisy! Also, I have noticed that it will run fine for a while fairly quietly but then, unexpectedly, the fan and case will start to rattle and whine. Pressing on the plastic of the case does stop the rattling but shifting or moving the unit doesn't help. It's on a hardwood floor so no unstable setup here. I can't tell if it's a bad bearing, bad fan, loose case, or something else. I am contacting HoMedics for a replacement or refund. My advice: find something else and save yourself the risk of poor quality control. ... show more

Freezer died, not sure how long it was without power, this Homedics Air Purifier eliminated the rotting food smell almost immediately, specifically the same day. Please note, the high setting is loud but worth it based on the effective air cleaning, small sacrifice in my opinion.

After 8 days, we returned it. We couldn't cope with the annoying noise (vibration) anymore even though the fan was on the low setting. At first, it was somewhat quiet then the noise level increased.
