This is my 3rd massager by Home Medics over the years and they've gotten me thru some tough times with muscle tightness. I wore out the previous two. This one does fine though the shiatsu balls don't offer as good upper back massage as previous ones. They don't seem to be large enough and don't really come into good contact with upper back to provide good massage. The lower back shiatsu does a very good job. The neck massage feature does fine - I do find that I need to sit on 1 or 2 throw pillows to raise my body in order to get the massager to reach area between shoulder blades. ... show more

The neck massage feels good on my neck. The back massager is nice on my back, I just can't do both at the same time because they are too close together. My shoulders are about 31 inches from my lower back. The furthest this thing's massagers get from each other is about 20 inches. I would have outgrown this at about 9 years old. My 14 year old son is far too big for it. It's a nice 2/3rds scale model of what I would like to buy, and I am sure there are people small enough that it would work for them, but for me, they just skimped on the size too much. ... show more

I love this massage cushion. I have had back issues for 40 years. I always dreamt of buying a fancy massage chair to ease the pain. Could never afford it. I tried a massage cushion (different brand) at my uncle's house and had to get one. I shopped and read reviews to settle on the HoMedics Shiatsu Elite II. I have had it for a month and use it almost every day. I often wake up with a stiff back, so I head downstairs to use the cushion and it loosens me up. I really wish I had found it years ago. I feel like I have already gotten my money's worth in just the first month. My wife uses it too. Visitors use it and have mixed feelings. Some love it, others think it is "too hard", and one friend bought their own. I am 6 feet tall, so the neck rollers hit me on top of the shoulders, but that is where I want them. I can adjust them down to work my upper back. When you use the upper and lower rollers at the same time, you may need to adjust your body to get the correct pressure for each. Towards the end of the programmed massages, the lower pad can get very hot. I will definitely buy another one if this one ever stops working. ... show more

Bought this based on the Wirecutter recommendation to help with back pain and tension. The product is easy to set up and works fine. My main issue is that there is a big gap in coverage at the shoulder blades (a key area of tension and stress) between the neck massaging section and the kneading/rolling section for your back, that the actual upper back cannot get massaged. You have to adjust sitting to reach upper middle of back which is the spot where the neck messager and upper back messager meet.

Purchased this for my husband as a Christmas gift after I threw out his old iJoy Human Touch Massage Chair. He loved the iJoy chair but the pleather was peeling off after 7 years of use. We had both tested the HoMedics Shiatsu Elite Cushion and really liked it. I took a chance on the Elite II and of all the massage cushion/chairs we've tested and purchased over the years, this one is the BEST. It beats chairs that are 5x more expensive. PROS: The most amazing feature is the adjustable height of the neck/head massager. I'm 5'4 -5'5 and this actually kneads my neck and trap areas. AMAZE BALLS. This was for my husband but I actually USE this massage chair all the time. The pre preprogrammed options are fantastic but you can easily customize the height, width, heat on or off, rolling or kneading to your body's content. EASY TO USE. There is a chair that you can purchase from Homedics that fits this unit with a place for the remote, but the cushion fit perfectly on our modern gray rocker swivel chair and really works with our modern decor. It's in our living area and isn't obtrusive (or ugly) and the gray color doesn't stick out. EASY ON THE EYES Friends take turns sitting in the chair and LOVE using it when they come over. It's considered the best seat in the house when they discover it. One of my dear friends is a board certified acupuncturist/massage therapist and she ADORES the chair and she usually doesn't like these things. Can't recommend this chair enough. We used to have a massage chair until it broke. They no longer make those massage chairs, but it is the same mechanism that is in this massager. We’ve been using this massager for couple of years now, and it’s a lifesaver. Friends come over, and they want to sit in the chair with the massager.
