The safe works fine but is a little lightweight. Other reviews about fireproof and waterproof are correct. I wanted to clear up some of the directions. 1. Mounting: The expansion bolts included say they are for wood or concrete. Probably most of you have drywall, so you may need additional hardware. I would suggest finding a wall stud and using about 2-inch long hex-head sheet metal or wood screws with washers. I was able to mount two of the rear holes through the drywall into a stud. This safe is too light to be a deterrent by weight, so you definitely want to firmly mount it. 2. Setting Date and Time: The instructions say "When in standby mode..." but never once explain how to get into standby mode. After opening the safe the display illuminates and reads OPEN. This is when you want to enter the "*" and then you can enter the time and date. ... show more

This is a nice safe. It’s not heavy so this means it needs to be bolted into the wall or floor. Otherwise, anyone can walk off with it. It was frustrating though setting up the passcode and the time/date. Here’s my tip: From the instructions, use ‘Setting the Master Code’ Option B. To set the date and time, open the door. It says fireproof and water proof yet it comes with large installation holes predrilled in the bottom and the back. Hmmm The instructions are POOR, at best, and many, including myself, have difficulty setting up the keyless entry. ONCE I FIGURED OUT THAT THE RESET BUTTON,, is an actual button at the back corner of the door, (and not one of the panel display buttons), I was able to program it with my own code and set the date time. I am only going to put important papers like titles, birth and other important documents and no valuables in it so I guess I will plug the 3/8 inch holes to help prevent fire and water damage and I will purchase a fire Bag since I do not believe that paper inside would survive any direct fire or dousing by a fire hose as received. It came with a small additional 4 AA battery box which uses a tiny audio type jack, but I see no place to plug this in, or what its purpose actually is. The most important thing to get out of this review regarding the programming is that the RESET switch is actually at the door hinge inside area and that is how you program it. The light at the hinge area of the door that some have commented on as a bonus is USELESS since it is just a tiny L E D and you can barely tell if it is on, let alone illuminate the interior. It is more like a small locking file cabinet than a safe. The front door seems quite secure considering the entire box weighs about 20 lbs. I doubt it could stand up to a good Wack with a 5 lb sledgehammer. Plan on plugging the holes and getting a fire bag yourself or mits just a file cabinet with a lockable door. ... show more
