They are definitely adequate, look nice, and I do really like the different settings (large holes which I use for pepper, small holes which I use for salt, a large opening for pouring, and a closed setting. The only negative is that the top and the stainless sleeve are not dishwasher safe. If you decide that you will use it in your kitchen, you can adjust the cover of the holes so that the spices don’t inadvertently get moist while inactive. I really like this shaker set. However, you must be carful in cleaning the shaker. The metal sleeve over the shaker is sharp. I took mine off for first time cleaning before use and I took it all apart. The metal sleeve's edge was sharp and I cut my finger. At first I was put off by how flimsy the metal top is. But when I started using it, it worked beautifully, and I can keep the salt dry in the summer with the choice of holes. I like the feel of the shape, as well as being able to see when the shaker needs to be refilled.
