Description

Designed to fit most double-hung and slider windows, this double window fan takes in fresh, cool air from the outdoors to provide cooling comfort. Each of the unit's two fans can be independently reversed, allowing you to intake fresh air, exhaust stale air, or exchange air for full-room circulation. Featuring two speed settings and a one-touch programmable thermostat, the fan lets you easily adjust airflow in accordance with your personal comfort level. Water-resistant motors make the fan safe for use during rainy weather. And thanks to its adjustable extender screen and extender panel, the fan can fit securely in a wide range of window sizes. Control the thermostat and 2 digital comfort settings with the 1Touch controls. It's in with the good air and out with the bad air with the Holmes® Electronically Reversible Twin Window Fan . This window fan operates quietly and efficiently by taking-in fresh, cooler, outdoor air and exhausting stale, warm, indoor air for cooling comfort. This double window fan draws in fresh, cool air from the outside or exhausts stale, hot air from inside. It can also do both simultaneously, because each of the two fans can be set independently to draw in or exhaust out, allowing the unit to exchange inside and outside air. Operable either manually or automatically--with its thermostat turning the fans off and on to maintain a selected temperature--the unit has a one-touch electronic control and two speeds so it can be adjusted to conditions. It's designed to fit double-hung, vertical-slider, and casement windows. A built-in 7-inch extender and extra 3-inch extender permit custom fitting for windows from 24 to 37 inches wide. Because the unit is lightweight plastic it can be moved easily from room to room. The fans have six blades and measure 8-1/2 inches in diameter. Overall, the unit is 12-1/4 inches high, arrives fully assembled, and carries a three-year warranty against defects.

We rent and are stuck with a downdraft evaporative cooler, and a large addition was put onto the back of the house without any extra ducts for it. The large main duct for the swamp cooler is in the hallway on the bedroom area of the sidesplit home. Hot air rises and cold air moves downward so fortunately the main floor of the house keeps fairly cool. Except for the kitchen! 4 windows and 2 skylights leave it bright and hot, despite the fact that there is an evaporative cooler duct around 5 feet from the kitchen area. Right now we are trying to draw the cooler living room air in to stop the sweatbox that the kitchen becomes in summer. It's great that it will exhaust and draw air towards itself, and we use intake to bring cooler night air into the kitchen. I just ordered another fan, because I am so pleased with the performance, quality and longevity of this unit. It's a good value for the money. My 2017 model is still going strong.     • Use a thermometer and hold the center button down!

1.You don't have to cycle through 10 settings to turn it off - hold the button down and count to 3. 2.I noticed that a great deal of the negative reviews on this fan exactly match a similar Holmes fan at a much cheaper price point - I have to wonder if some of them are on the wrong product page. 3.There is a trick to this fan that I believe some people don't understand - it only works if the outside air temperature is LOWER than the inside temperature. If the outside air temperature is higher than the inside temperature, you'll just be sucking hot air into your room. We use an indoor/outdoor wireless thermometer and immediately shut the fan off and close and cover the window as soon as the outside temp gets within a degree of the inside temp. If I didn't have the thermometer (which wasn't very expensive), I would just use the Weather Channel hour-by-hour forecast or something like that to make a judgement call on when to turn it off and on. In other words - it's mainly meant for nighttime use. You can use it as a floor fan or something when it's warmer outside than in, but take it out of the window for heaven's sake! I also wouldn't reverse the direction and expect it to do much unless you had some cooler air to pump into the room as the warmer air was sucked out; but it would work very well to clear hot air out before turning on the A/C or something along those lines. If the temperature was fairly equal inside and out, I could see fresh air being somewhat more relieving than just moving inside air around, and the idea of putting one on intake at one end of a room and one on outtake at the other end would be a very effective way to move air around, too. Otherwise - think before you decide when/how/where to use the window fan. It's not rocket science - but it's not plug-in and expect a cheap A/C miracle, either. 4.It's not noisy at all. Compared to central A/C? Yeah, it's pretty loud. Compared to a box fan and most floor fans? It's whisper quiet. 5.It doesn't seem to be any lower quality than any other plastic fan I've ever owned. I don't expect it to last forever, but I don't think it seems too cheaply made for a plastic fan. All things considered, quality control on something like this would mean that sometimes a bad ones will get through, so I would probably exchange it at least once before asking for my money back. (We ordered 3 and they all work fine, though.) The only negative I can really say is the thermostat gadget. When the temp is on the line, the thing can't make up it's mind and starts and stops for awhile. It *does* work though, so if you need it to 'think' for itself while you are at work or something it is a worthwhile and useful feature. For it to work smoothly it would have to be considerably more sensitive and expensive and I don't care to pay that much for a fan. Also - I have to say this. Some reviewers were disappointed that the thing was 'unsafe' and they had to take it out of their window to secure the house from burglers when they were away. All I can think is: REALLY?!? For a plastic fan at this price point, people seriously expected that?!? So, with that said: No. No, it's not secure and you will need to remove it and lock your window if you are concerned about your neighborhood and your TV. I refuse to remove a star for that, though. (You might be grateful however, if you ever get locked out and have to boost your youngest through a window. Not that this has ever happened to me or anything....) ... show more

    • Good FAN for the price!

It’s a really good fan, specially for the price. I work in the HVAC industry and design AC systems, and found this to be a great addition to my 1 bedroom apartment in Southern California. I have a single wall AC unit in my living room, but it struggles to cool my bedroom since it’s split by a wall and a hallway. My bedroom also only has 1 small, west facing window and I’m surrounded by even more buildings, so airflow is not optimal. I got this because in Southern California it cools down enough outside for it to be bearable to sleep without the AC. However, my bedroom struggled. This strictly helps pull the outside air in or exhaust the inside air out. This is a fan and not something that is built to cool your room down on its own. It does not have cooling coils or anything that an AC unit does. Fans obviously help cool down the air, but will not do the job of an AC unit. The temperature controls do not mean this regulates the temperature. If the outside air is 90, it will NOT cool your room/area down to 60. The temperature controls are simply there to try and regulate how much air it brings in depending on the temperature it senses. It will cool a room down, but not to the degree an AC will. If you are looking for something to cool a room to 60 when it’s 90 out in the summer - you’ll need an AC (portable or other). Once again, it’s a fan and one meant to be in a window at a good price. It makes noise. It’s not extremely loud (quieter than the old AC wall unit I have), but if you want this to bring in air while you sleep, but can’t sleep with any noises, you will need to find something more expensive that’s designed to be quite. ... show more

    • brings cool outdoor air into my second floor apartment

This fan is light and VERY easy to install (it took probably 2 minutes to install). You can keep your screen down so it doesn't invite insects into your space. It cooled my stuffy, second floor apartment in about 3 minutes. In my living room I put it on intake at night and exhaust during the day. In my very narrow kitchen I just want more air circulation in general so I put one fan on intake and one on exhaust (the product contains 2 fans that are attached but that operate separately). I am very happy with this purchase because it lets me get fresh, cool air into my apartment while still allowing me to keep my windows open (unlike an air conditioner). It's a little noisy but I have heard a table top fan that was noisier, so I'd say the noise level is normal and reasonable. I have windows on only one wall of my apartment so there is no cross breeze. This fan creates a breeze in my apartment regardless. I'm really very happy with it. ... show more
